Man City Opens Season With Road Victory
Manchester City FC visited the Nou Camp last night to take on FC Barçelona in the season opener for both teams and the visitors came away with a 2-0 victory with goals from Vassel and Musampa.
Vasel's opener came in the 32' after Robbie Fowler set him free with a nice through ball near the halfway line. Vassel, with only one man to beat, did a few step-overs to freeze the defender just outside the box, and then slotted the ball past a charging keeper. In the second half, neither team could find the net until Sibierski was able to draw a foul and earn a free kick in the 84th minute some 30M away from the goal. With Reyna out due to the grey arrow, the left-footed winger Musampa came up to take the kick. His perfect blast curled over the wall and past the diving keeper, into the upper 90, sealing the win for the visitors.
Barça 0 : 2 Man City
Vassel 32'; Musampa 84'
SoG 4 : 16
SoT 2 : 9
Corners 2 : 0
Fouls 4 (5) : 0 (2)
Offsides 1 : 2
Poss. 45 : 55
Bookings: none
Injuries: none
Good game, Jack. I was pretty nervous I would lose that advantage throughout the second half. Ronaldinho came close a couple of times, but my game of keep away was working. That free kick from Musampa surprised the heck out of me!
Good luck the rest of the way, and I'll see you in the second half of the season.

Inaugural DSP WE League Cup Set To Start
OK Folks:
The Inaugural DSP WE League Cup is set up and ready to go:
In this list, the Home team is listed FIRST. The bracket at SGN has the home teams on the bottom, but in the schedule page they are correct. To find the tourney at the SGN League page, just go to the main, home page there and it appears in the list of leagues as a separate league from the regular WE League we have going.
Unfortunately, there is something quirky with the module that won't allow us to keep any stats for the players for this tournament. Thus, game reports entered at SGN need only include the team goals, no player stats. And so, it is important to post game recaps in this thread, including bookings and injuries. Not having individual stats is not a big deal, but we need to keep track of bookings and injuries.
XXXIV and ddtrane need to play the 16/17 game to see who will meet pigpen's Middlesbrough in the first round. Once the first round is completed (or nearly so) I will do a draw for Round 2.
Have fun, and play fair!
