Francis is Boogie's gaming geek parody character. The guy really is quite talented and well spoken. When he wants to give a rational, well-reasoned presentation on gaming and technology, he can do that as well as "boogie2988". You went back a few years to bring up that famous movie quote; I'll bet we've got young 'uns in here who weren't even born when that was made famous! It's crazy how much mileage it's gotten though; we have a local sports talk show in Charlotte called The Drive, which occasionally plays the audio from that scene in the introduction to its twice daily feature called "The Whiner Line". They play recorded messages from listeners whining and complaining about anything bothering them in the world of sports. It winds up opening the door for all sorts of amusing follow-ups.

BTW, to stay within the spirit of this thread; I'm one of those who doesn't have a clue which way I'm going to go first on the PS4/Xbox One decision. I have a feeling that I'll ultimately own both of them, but at this point, neither of them have one game that I just have to have.

Rumors that MS will increase the RAM to 12 GB or increase the clock speed of the GPU to make the X1 more competitive.

They could just take out the Kinect and cut the price, which would make it more competitive.

I don't think the price difference necessarily hurts them, but they will have to really show that the Kinect is an essential part of the XBone experience. I think it will have to integrate with enough games to where you couldn't imagine playing without the Kinect.

I hate the way this has all turned out.

I really wanted to the next-gen to offer tangible improvements to the experience other than just new specs. Now PS4 is winning basically by saying "we're not changing anything."

The reality though, is that MS tried to add things like mandatory Kinect and DRM without providing gamers with the benefits of these things. Going with the flow required gamers to just take a leap of faith that it was for the best.

I wish MS could've provided more reasons that gamers should buy a system with DRM (which automatically has tons of bad connotations) and Kinect (which most gamers consider a sideshow). It's like they weren't ready.

Have they shown that Kinect would improve the gameplay of something like Halo, even with the greater latency?

It's not just about being prepared with marketing message. They have to actually prove or demonstrate how it improves things.

Nintendo showed that goofy video of all these people smiling while waving that wand. That obviously worked to a certain extent, then word of mouth boosted sales.

Someone said GTA5 will have all kinds of mini sports games. Now if they can get Kinect for those games, that could be a big selling point.

I agree with your sentiment. As stated 100 times MS never clearly demonstrated the benefits of these features.

Meanwhile gamers knew that their current game fly subs. Would be rendered useless, there would be no open market for selling their used games, etc.

I still contend that if a gamer wants to go digital distribution they can. For me personally there are some games I just want to own the physical media for. I don't know why, but I do. Also like having the freedom of shopping my used games out for the best price. Sometimes that's ebay, sometimes it's a local sale or maybe best buy has a good promo going.

Being forced to sell back to an "authorized retailer" is a huge turnoff for me.

You should because we really got very little in terms of innovation and this new generation is sort of like a Madden upgrade.

Whatever MS was trying, they marketed it poorly and because the gaming media and gamers in general subscribe to group think they had no choice but to revert. It's their own fault for having the same misconception that Sony had with the PS3 that "gamers trust them"

Sony hasn't shown us anything. There is so little we really know about the system and they aren't talking. The used a PR trick to get a leg up and its almost as if they are waiting for the next MS mis-step to adjust their console and say "hey look at us guys we love gamers"

I have both systems pre-ordered but frankly they both need to start displaying why I should keep those orders.
