I like more metal. 8) Getting mine next week, plus Rogers are accepting tradings and are giving me about $130 value for the original One. The cost for the M8 is $229 for 2 years so I'll be going for it.

Whoa...you can easily get 250 for it on eBay or Craigslist. Should have went that way instead of the ripoff that is $130. But either way, you'll be stoked, this phone is nuts. So damn fast, so damn pretty. I ordered the Dot View case as well (for when I actually use a case)...I definitely dig the retro look of the notifications shining through. Word on the street today is you won't be limited to the HTC only apps like you are currently for long. Here's to hoping.

Well, I haven't decided to trade with Rogers yet so I may go thru craigslist if indeed I can get at least $200 back. Good to hear about other apps taking advantage of the Dot case.

I received a call from Rogers today, telling me that my M8 pre-order was ready for pick up. I was in no rush but since I was going to GS to trade some games I went into the store at the same mall. The phone is not for sale until April 10th I was told, but because of my pre-order I could pick it today. Huh?

It took the salesman a bit longer to have it activate it, partly because the computer wasn't ready ( I hate Rogers btw) but aside the little delay I was able to take it with me.

Love the charcoal grey and overall feel of it. They didn't have the dot case yet, not sure if you can get it only they their website but the phone is damn gorgeous.

The only thing I want to change is the BOS Celtic green in Blink feed, I've seen it in blue in some videos and I don't know how to change the color.

I turned it off. Blink feed is the devil. Pretty sure you can change themes tho. Go to settings and personalization.

I ordered the dot case from Verizon as they were the only one with it in stock this week. Should arrive Monday.

Yes. Or just turn it on and enjoy a stock Android interface.

To be fair...HTC did a pretty good job with their interface...tho its still too cluttered in the notification bar for my tastes.

The new One (M8) is an attractive, powerful and capable phone but is held back from topping the list by a few things;
  • The HTC logo/black bar below the screen throws off the symmetry, makes it a larger phone, and makes the screen appear in an odd, off-center location. Phones are about SCREENS, and the design distracts from the display and hampers usability WAY too much.

The camera. While larger sensor pixels are able to receive more light; the HTC One's 4mp camera proves to be just 'average' in reported tests.

Blink feed is cool, but Sense 6 is not stock android. HTC is not as bad as Samsung, but still far enough afield to annoy anyone who wants the speed, clarity and design cohesiveness of stock android.
PS> For those thinking an Apple fanboy is not allowed to comment: I sold my iPhone 5s and have been rocking a Nexus 5 and Moto X for the last 3 months.

I use BF quite a bit and while I understand how HTC could use the real estate of the screen better, I like the larger size overall. I agree about the 4 MP only on the camera which needs to be bumped up along a better lens. What has improved a lot is the time it takes to charge it up and the battery life. Besides cosmetic looks, they need to take a bigger jump in order to fight among the top dogs.

Sold the original One with no problems and I am enjoying the M8 a lot.

I actually like the black bar at the bottom. Symmetry be damned. It gives me a place to rest my hands while watching movies that doesn't block the speakers. And also one of the gripes with the first One was that it was difficult to hit the buttons that low on the screen. This remedies that. Funny no one mentions the giant bezels on the top and bottom of the iPhone...ever. I guess it's because it was designed by a Knight. The only phone to do bezels completely right is the LG G2...fantastic design work there.

You can turn off blink feed which I couldn't do fast enough. Once you rid yourself of that...it's a pretty minimally intrusive interface. I guess that's why I will only use HTC phones if it's not a Nexus.

The camera is the fastest on the market by quite a bit. Launching and focusing speed. It does take mediocre shots...that's for damn sure. But for me...with a 21 month old. Speed is the #1 priority. The Nexus 5 I've got and my wife's Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 are all turtle like in their overall speed in comparison. So yeah...I can completely agree the iPhone specifically destroys it for overall quality and consistency but that doesn't mean it fits every ones needs.

All that said...I'll keep my N5 because I'm bound to get bored in a few months. Speed be damned.

Maybe.

It's awesome to see they added a few items to the Google Play Edition of the One (M8) to keep it mostly stock Android with a few HTC enhancements. Boomsound - Dot View Cover - Dual Camera software - knock/gesture wake. Can't wait till these ROMs start being released so I can hack the thing. Haha.

Went and checked out the S5 and did some comparisons with the One M8...no comparison overall. The M8 destroys it. The only area where the S5 wins is camera detail (as expected because of the larger sensor). The speed of the M8 is superior...mostly because of the lower resource requirement of the skin. Touchwiz continues to be a dog. If anyone gets an S5...please wipe it and install a custom ROM. Cannot believe how laggy it becomes occasionally. The M8 is flawless in this regard.

It's also shocking how cheap the S5 feels after rocking the M8 for a few weeks. That cheap ass chrome trim they put on the thing is gaudy as hell. They really need some new designers. That said, I do actually like the soft touch, dimpled back, which most people (reviewers) hate.

Anyone go from an iphone to an Android one? Is it a major hassle getting all your iphone content to transfer to the Android?

Considering going from iphone 4S to a Galaxy 5, but not sure it's worth the hassle?

You mean an HTC one?

I have the HTC One (2013) and if you install HTC Sync Manager it can restore from an Itunes backup.

If you only want to transfer contacts it has an option to transfer them from an iPhone via BT. But again, if you should already have your contacts synced to a Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo account they will sync to your new phone as soon as you setup that account.

I have been a converter for 3 years now. I currently have the M8 which I love, and besides what Javy mentioned, there are apps that help you on the transfer department. Customizing Android to your hearts content is the fun part. Having said that I was going to take a good look at Apples new phones coming up, but mainly for the bigger screens.

Having an ipad on the side and an Android phone is the perfect marriage IMO.

Yeah I was gonna mention, if you currently haven an iPhone you should wait to see what will the 6 look like, plus iOS 8 looks pretty sweet, specially if you're already dug in on the Apple ecosystem.

I heard the screen on the iPhone 6 won't be any bigger than the 5s. Am I wrong?

just found this:

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/06/07 ... this-week/

"we expect an iPhone 6 with two screen sizes, 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch"

5.5 inch is HUGE! The Galaxy 5S is 5.1" which looks HUGE compared to the tiny 3.5" screen on my iphone 4s.

Yeah it's pretty much a given that the 6 will come in at least 4.5 - 4.7 inch'.

A phablet sized iPhone? Who knows.

The M8 love in this thread caused me endless second guessing when Verizon called me to offer a free early upgrade. The choice: the M8 or the S5 (or an iPhone, but Droid til I die). I had to make a quick choice, and having tried out the S5 earlier (and almost paying for an early upgrade because I liked it do much), I chose the Samsung. But then I read this thread and some reviews and started loving the look of the M8 and thought about switching my choice....

However, I decided to stick with the S5. I have had an HTC Thunderbolt and DNA and loved them (the DNA attracted endless "ooh, what phone is that?" comments). But I love the S5 display, the camera is better suited for the shots I tend to take (usually outside, not many low-light photos), and the waterproof rating gives me a phone I can use at the gym for Google Play music instead of my ancient iPod. I have, though, never had such a quick flash of buyer's remorse. The M8 is certainly super pretty and looks like a sports car.

It also occurred to me that having angst over which amazingly advanced smartphone to choose may be the whitest of #whitepeopleproblems. :D

Favorable so far. The camera is so damn fast and accurate, that might be reason enough to pick the G3 over the M8.
