• He hopes the league and the players union will be able to settle their differences on testing for human growth hormone before next season, but he wouldn't say he's confident that will happen.

"There's certainly enough time. We had a meeting just on Friday between the two parties to try to address those issues," Goodell said. "We understand the issues they've raised. We've answered those questions. ... All of the scientists agree that this test is valid. So we think we have a valid test. It's been proven on a global basis. We hope to get it implemented as quickly as possible."

The new labor contract that ended the NFL lockout in August included a provision for HGH testing as soon as this season -- but only once the NFLPA approved the process. That hasn't happened, in part because the NFLPA says it needs more information about the test itself.

Asked by a reporter whether he's confident of getting a test in place for 2012, Goodell paused, then replied: "I'll tell you: Sure going to work as hard as we can to get it done, because I think it's important, not just for the game, but also for the players."

This should be priority number one. Looking at some of these players, it's so incredibly obvious they are using some kind of PED. The size of their heads and necks look cartoonishly large. Stringent testing also might cut down on concussions in the long run as well as their oversized bodies might not be so oversized when valid testing is put in to place.

Back to the NFL season at hand, I'm rooting for a 49ers / Ravens Super Bowl, with Baltimore taking it all.

Once again. I hope so except for the last part about the Pats. :D
I've got a man crush on Tom Brady so I'm rooting for the Pats if the above mentioned scenario happens. Ideally I would love to see the 49ers win the whole thing. Screw the Ravens...I hate Ray Lewis. I hope Brady undresses the Ravens D like a prom date.

See right there, that picture above, is why I hate Tom Brady.

I KNOW I am in denial. The stats, the championships, ya, everything about him is HOF'r.

But wtf is the whole model crap he does. I guess if he was from say France and started playing NFL football I could accept it. But he's not, he's from here. American QB's shouldn't be this girly.

And whenever I see him on tv, it makes me think how life can change on the smallest things. That Tuck rule, if that didn't go his way, and the pats are knocked out that year, does he ever get another shot? If he does, is he what he became without the SB Championship?

But I truly hate the PATS not because of Brady but because of their cheating arrogant cheating on his wife head coach.

Holy crap, the vehemence towards the Patriots makes zero sense. I mean for XXXIV i get it because he is so purposefully over the top angry at anything Boston it makes me laugh and he knows it. But some of this other stuff is simply absurd. I mean really, Brady is "girly" because he can make money off the fact that he's a good looking dude that's married to a freaking supermodel?

Without the tuck rule he's nothing? What a stupid thing to say. He won two more Super Bowls and using that argument, IF David Tyree doesn't make the most ridiculous catch in the history of football he has four, not three….but he did make the catch, and it is what it is.

And for everyone pointing to the "cheating"…please stop. Every team in the league did it, does it, and will continue to do it. Period. End of story.

And how can anyone dislike a team that honestly provides zero media fodder thanks to a massively dull coach and a locker room full of guys that say nothing. Talk about people looking for reasons to be haters. If this team had Bronco jerseys on everyone would love them.

Oh, and i've said it before and I'll say it again, if I had the looks and athletic ability of Tom Brady you can bet your ass I'd take advantage of the same opportunities this guy does and so would all of you. Blame Joe Namath, one of the most average QB's to ever play the game, for the extracurriculars. But he proved, if you've got it, people want it. So go give it to them.

Its sports internet fun. :)

Ill be rooting hard against em but if the Patriots do win the SB, and at this point I would have them as the favorite, I will be towards the front of the line to congratulate them.

Granted seeing another Brett Favre commercial of guys playing "manly" pick-up football in jeans isn't much better.

My intense dislike for the Pats from a few years ago has dissipated. Now they're just really good and Tom Brady wants to win worse than anyone else.

I'd just like to see the Giants lose as Eli really annoys me.

Remember the undefeated season they were running up the score?

They were doing that against the Broncos too. They kept Brady and the starters in there at 42-10.

You're right Rally, I much despise your Bruins than the Pats. :) I don't mind Brady. He's at the top of his game again, he's candidate for MVP and usually people love to watch a star burn and crash down to their level. Good locks and being married to a supermodel doesn't help the haters either I guess. On that same note, that's why they love an underdog and with the final four set as it is, I wouldn't bet against them.

And I think the tuck rule lives on in infamy, not because it was suddenly discovered and enacted one day in NE, but rather because it was a playoff game that eliminated the Raiders from contention. Jets were beneficiaries of that rule too.

Now, if there' one reason why I would dislike the Pats is Hoodie and that would be it. Belli-cheat may run a score on purpose and that doesn't sit well with many but after all these years, his players keep buying into his system.

Not true, because I doubt Broncos' fans have half the arrogance and irrationality of the New England sports fan base. That's one of the big reasons people hate the Pats, Bruins and Red Sox.

Don't forget the Celtics! I actually like the Patriots in the post-season. Definitely make the playoffs more interesting.

I'm not sure I understand all the Goodell-stuff in this thread. The idea is that he's asking the ref's to cheat to get GB in the Super Bowl? Why wouldn't he want the NY-market in it?

It's the NFL and the playoffs you don't like it then stop the other team. That punt on 3rd down where Miller lost his mind and started a fight that he lost. The Pats let the Broncos know they were playing with them.

Danimal is spot-on.

I have no problem with any pro team keeping its starters in the game in any sport. It's the big leagues, people being paid to excel. So let them do it. If Google could get 95 percent market share with Chrome by unleashing a new feature against IE and Firefox, do you think it would stop development of that feature and be happy with only 90 percent?

This idea that professional sport is any different than any other business is naive. It's about winning, and winning big.

Plus the Patriots offense is better than their defense. If Brady and co. can keep drives going and eat the clock then the Broncos have less of a chance to get back in the game against the Patriots less then world class defensive squad.

Don't give a team hope.

Two different arguments. Hating Patriots FANS (and in a larger picture New England fans in general) because of their high level of ignorance and homer-ism is one thing…and something even as a fan I cannot argue having to listen to many of these morons on sports talk radio. But railing against a team that just goes about it's business and gets the job done I don't agree with or understand.

OK, fine: How do you explain why Red Sox fans hate the Yankees? Can you recall a baseball team over the last 15 years that has won more with more classier, all-business guys than Jeter, Bernie Williams, Rivera and Posada? Yes, I know A-Roid is a me-first a-hole. But he's an exception, not a rule, in that clubhouse under Torre and Girardi over the last 15 years.

Yet Red Sox Nation -- perhaps the most detestable term in sports, by the way -- still hates the Yanks. Age-old rivalry breeds that kind of acrimony, but even the most level-headed Sox fan will give the Yanks ZERO credit.

First off the Packers are nation wide the way the Cowboys are.

Second. Market schmarket. Every one watches the SB. Its a national holiday.

I just dont like Goodell personally but more I just cant stand terrible officiating and that fumble call has to be one of the most disgraceful if not the most disgracefull call in NFL playoff history.

No one hated Boston, the teams or their fans until they had a little success. Since then, they are the most obnoxious, arrogant, self absorbed, prissy douchebags that can all go to hell for all I care. No fan base has dealt with being successful worse.

THAT is the reason for the vitriol towards anything Boston.

First off, I'm a level headed, lifelong Red Sox fan for more than 40 years and I have the utmost respect for the Yankees.

Second and more importantly, the analogy doesn't work. Red Sox fans that hate the Yankees hate them for two reasons that we do not see with the Patriots when talking about the Pats here and across the country. In baseball Sox fans point to the money the Yankees spend to maintain success. Of course they completely disregard that their own team does the same. It's disjointed and irrational. More importantly the distaste for the Yankees from Red Sox nation (and vice versa of course) comes from something no one has mentioned in this thread which is rivalry. Bears fans hate the Pack. Jets fans hate the Patriots. Bruins fans hate the Habs (and now 10s' Canucks). Etc. What we see across the country with respect to the Patriots has more to do with, using your word, irrational dislike for no other reason than a recipe for success by a group of guys that just go out, play hard, and win games.

I'll say this however, I watch sports in a way that most fans don't in that I can appreciate talent, good coaching, and team work that leads to success without "hating" the laundry or fan base that supports them. Example, I pray twice a year that Brady and company kick the ever loving crap out of the Jets, but at the end of the day, Rex Ryan is a damn good coach and when they came in and whooped up on the Pats last year I was one of the few around here who gave them their due credit. So I understand the points made by you and db with regards to the general fan base in this area. Just leave the Rally-man out of the crowd. I'm a one wolf…I mean Lone Wolf. :D
