Of late I've been using Clean Rom 6.0 on my At&t HTC One. It uses the leaked 4.3 for At&t and gets rid of all of the bloatware. It's a significant upgrade for sure. If you're staying stock, it'll be a pleasant surprise.

I was quite surprised that they beat Samsung for the update as I got my 4.3 today. Love my HTC.

Seems like the N5 is all specs but the camera is still lacking.

May just hold on to the HTC One afterall.

Camera is fine...the one lacks significant detail...that's it's huge downfall. Supposedly the low light on the N5 is just as good and with less noise. Not sure what you're reading, or where you are reading it.

Mine will be here tomorrow.

As I expected (and mentioned above) in comparing my newly arrived Nexus 5 to my HTC one, in lower light situations, the N5 destroys the One in terms of the quality of the imagine. It doesn't allow as much light in as the One, but the noise levels are significantly lessened on the N5. Take a look at the two pics below...untouched, both in HDR mode. The first is the HTC One, and the Second the N5...judge for yourself. I'm a fan of the camera on the N5 so far. It's slower, yes, but better overall, so it's worth it.

And yes, my Nexus collection is growing. ;)

Outside of the slower shutter speed on the N5...I'm been quite impressed with the shots it's taken so far. Still early and haven't done a lot of action stuff w/ my son yet so that might change, but random stills are quite good.

Holy crap the N5 camera update (in 4.4.1) is absolutely fantastic. Fixed almost all of my complaints with the slow shutterspeed and autofocus consistency. Hell of an upgrade.

Db,

My wife and I are looking at getting smartphones. Would you recommend the N5 as the top pick? I was looking at the Note 3 today and was fairly impressed. But haven't seen the N5. Not sure if it's available in Canada yet.

Thanks,

Doug

N5 is all over the place in Canada by now I think. At the very least you can get them at the Play store as two guys at work have 'em.

You can't really go wrong with any of the following as top picks: Note 3, Moto X, Galaxy S4, and HTC One

All offer different software packages so that's really the deciding factor. Personally if I'm recommending it...especially after the camera software patch...the N5 is the best of the best. Moto X would be second followed by the HTC One and then the Note 3/Galaxy S4. I'm a sucker for updated software and the N5 and X are updated the quickest.

If you have any specific questions just let me know. Happy to help.

Beautiful. I was planning on going back with Apple this year with the rumored bigger screen, and this will make my decision tougher. I can wait until this Fall too as my current 'One' more than satisfies my needs. Do wish they made a 5' model though.

Likely the next phone to add to my stable. The s5 will sell ten times as many which is a shame. Maybe more.

Bought the new HTC One...should be here in a week or so (had to order online w/ At&t not in store w/ Verizon). That is one badass looking phone. It's gonna be a dogfight with my Nexus 5.

Anything that caught your attention if I am to get the updated One? This year I was really thinking of changing back to Apple for the bigger screen or try Samsung but honestly I've been quite content with HTC so far.

I just think HTC and LG make the best Android devices right now. The new camera on the One is awesome. Being able to adjust the focus point for every picture you take is a fantastic idea.

I'm just kind if over Samsung and all of the worthless features they add to their phones. Not to mention they aren't even in the same ballpark as far as build quality goes.

The Dual rear camera looks pretty cool not to mention the editing features that come along with it. But the feature that may just tilt towards my update is the addition for the micro SD card for extra room.

And the ability to see thru the HTC case, whether it's the weather, time or notification is a great idea.

Great idea, unfortunately marred by the fact that it's only for HTC apps. Can't see notifications for any other Android software (i.e. hangouts, gmail, etc.). Hopefully someone can get it hacked and working with other apps as it's pretty sweet.

SD card expansion used to be a big deal to me, but now that I do 95% of my music listening through Google music, I really don't need to carry that much music with me. The 32gb built in is enough for me.

My only concern really is the size. The original HTC One was fairly tall and the power button being on the top was a pain in the ass. They rectified that by allowing you to swipe in different directions on a "sleeping" device to access different things...and of course the rip off of the Knock On feature that LG created has been copied. So the power button will really only be used to turn off the device now.

It was shipped already so I should have it Thursday morning. Can't wait to get this thing in my hands and stick it up against the N5.

Anyone in the market for an Android should really not dismiss the G2 just because of the button placement. As db has heard from me already, I got one 3 weeks ago and it's absolutely brilliant. The buttons take about 3 days to get used to and they're absolutely no big deal. In fact, they're more than a fair trade off for the knock-on feature (a small but surprisingly game-changing improvement) and the screen, which are positively awesome.

I read about 50 different reviews of the (original) HTC One, the S4 and the Moto X and it was shocking how badly people treated the G2 because of the buttons. Total miss on their part, IMO.

I was upgrading from an S3 and was in no way a Touchwiz hater, but the G2 software is miles lighter and more elegant. I read a few reviews just murdering it, but I don't get it. What's there is mostly excellent and it's far more customizable than the Samsung s/w. For example, ever review hammered the phone for having way too much info in the pull-down menu when you open the notification menu, but you can completely remove anything you don't want (including the pretty pointless Q-slide functions). Also, you can customize icons etc.

If you're considering an S5 or a One, I suggest giving it a good look in the store, at least. Play around with knock function and look at pics or games on all the screens. I didn't really have it in the running until I got my hands on it the first time.

Battery life is outstanding, call quality far better than my S3 and the One that I tested, and the screen is easily the best looking in the class.

db gave me some $hit the other day for having a cluttered notification area, but most of that is my choice. I don't worship at the altar of stock :), so maybe your mileage may vary as well. But I'm out of the immediate honeymoon period with this phone and I can't recommend it strongly enough.
