Im still searching for the perfect brown ale. Bass was good, but a little too
carbonated, while Newcastle is good, but a little too "flat". I have a feeling if I poured 1/2 glass of each together, it would be perfect :D

Maybe I will splurge and try Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale next week?

You would be a wise man for doing so.

Also, Goose Island's Hex Nut Brown Ale is very good.

Slightly off-topic from the discussion, but I thought it was amusing that someone really could get beer from their sink.

Just got back from Myrtle Beach and other than having a great time with the wife and kids, my wife and I tried Yuengling Lager. Then we tried some more, and a little more. We both really enjoyed it. My wife is not much of a beer drinker so finding this was quite nice.

Living in Michigan, I do not believe it is available here. There is a store that carries many different beers which I will visit and see if it is there.

If not, is there a beer that is comparable in taste?

I drink many different beers but finding something like Yuengling would be nice for the wifey.

Yuengling tastes like 2 different beers to me. I love it on tap, but don't like the tatste of it out of a bottle.

its so weird that you just posted this. I tried Yuengling a few months ago and thought it was OK - nothing special. I just had some last week on tap during a round of golf and loved it. I thought maybe I was too hasty dismissing it, so I went out and got a 6 pack. You are right....On tap is so much better than bottled. Not sure why that is?

Since this thread was resurrected.....here are my updated rankings.
I recently tried Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale and it is THE BEST by far.
It's the perfect brown Ale, but it's also $10 for 4 bottles!

I also tried Grolsch Amber Ale...not so good.
Not sure what else I want to try at this point. Maybe
Molson Canadian? I wish there were more Brown Ale's.

Here is my new update rankings with added comments:

1-Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale (Outstanding!!!)
2-Newcastle (a bit flat - needs more carbonation)
3-Sam Adams (nice hoppy aftertaste - great on tap)
4-Yuengling (Tap Only! - like a different beer on tap)
5-Bass Ale (a bit too much carbonation - very filling)
6-Warsteiner (great all around lager - crisp and clear)
7-Labatt Blue (great blue collar brew)
8-Stella Artois (very easy going down...a bit indistinct)
9-Pilsner Urquell
10-Yuengling (bottled - too bad it doesn't come close to tap)
11- Grolsch Amber Ale (not bad for an ale, but other's are better)
12-Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (acquired taste - a bit bitter)
13-Molson Ice (better than Bud)
14-Becks (not so good - only if nothing else is around)

All you guys from the Bay Area are the luckiest sonofaguns around. I recently had my first taste of heaven on tap and it was better than any beer I've ever had. I'm talking about Pliny the Elder. It's a double IPA, which sounds kinda harsh, but Pliny is anything but. Unfortunately it's brewed up near the Russian River and is only available on tap so we here on the east coast are plain SOL.

Newcastle Brown Ale is a revolting liquid, drunk only by students and those interested mainly in getting plastered as quickly as possible.

:D
Isn't that the history of beer, the most affordable way to get drunk?

That and its popularity in colder countries which couldn't make wine because they didn't have the climate for growing grapes.

Is Gordon Biersch available back east?

It used to be at all the ball parks out here before Budweiser signed a big concession deal at AT&T park.

But it's available at all the supermarkets now, in addition to the Gordon Biersch restaurants and other microbrew places.

I'm the exact opposite, I can't stand beer in bottles and refuse to buy them. If it doesn't come in can, then its a no go for me.

I have found a great beer here in Atlanta which has become my "regular" beer:

Sweetwater Georgia Brown Ale

It's like a cross between Newcastle and Bass. I love it!

Grabbed a 6 of Sam Adams Boston Lager the other night just for the hell of it. I hadn't had it in a long while. Solid beer.

Sam Adams is consistently the best beer you can get in many gas stations and convenience stores.

anyone ever try "Thomas Creek"? I have been drinking their Red Ale lately and really liking it. My favorite was Sweetwater's Brown Ale, but I found that it sometimes gives me a headache. Not sure why that happens, but it's a bummer when it's a beer you like.

The only reason must be you save your cans cheapskate  ive never heard of such a thing. If the missus buys cans i have to pour them in a glass. The only time i like beer in a can is after work with the lads before we head home. (Just 1 im sensible now) Believe it ehhhhh ooorrrr not.(in jack Palance voice) :D

Totally agree, but $9 for 4 bottles!!! Too damn expensive or I would buy it every week. I need to update my list.
