I LOVE NBA 2k6...it's definitely the best hoops game I've ever played, even surpassing Inside Drive. This year has been pretty good in terms of sports games. NHL 2k6 is great, NCAA is pretty good, Madden is pretty good and MVP was AWESOME. I cannot complain this year...

I totally agree. Every developer stepped up at least once this year and each sport was graced with a solid title. NBA 2k6 really surprised me after last years average effort.

It definitely was one of the better sports gaming years. I can't remember a year where I was completely happy with one of the games for a particular genre, especially on my Xbox alone. Usually I had to go to the PC for one or more of the 'big four' sports games. I hope the trend continues with the next gen.

I just scooped it off ebay brand new for $20. I must say most of the issues from last year are fixed so i'm happy. This and NHL 2k6 wow... what great games.

Over the haul, does it play a good game of b-ball?

Yep. I've played about 100 game online I still play this game frequently. At least until College Hoops 2K6 arrive, which I will eventually switch to playing mostly due to a big flaw in the pro game (explained below).

NBA 2K6 plays a really good game of basketball. However, a major gripe of mine is the bizarre player movement whenever defense switches to zone which makes running offensive plays pointless. It doesn't matter much offline since the CPU always play Man-to-Man, but it's a big deal online since that's what most people like to call on.

At any rate, the issue is that CPU teammates are automatically programmed to cut to the basket whenever the man who's guarding him leaves him open. But the dilemma is that CPU teammates will assume they're "open" all the time since no man is guarding them directly. (Remember, defenders in a zone are actually guarding an area, not a man.) So they cut to the basket and remain there -- running in circles around the hoop instead of going where they supposed to on the court and following their assignments. Can't call on set plays because they won't be executed properly due to this, so you're basically forced to freelance. One of the definite flaws I've seen in this game so far.

Better learn how to use Dual Player Control and Icon Passing really well, because that's the best way to attack zones in this game to overcome this flaw.

Dear lord does NBA 2k6 frustrate me. Playing on All-star difficulty, I can barely manage to stay in the game against the CPU. I can't stop anyone consistently, and even when I'm patient on offense and get a decent shot, my shots rattle in and out. Meanwhile, the CPU drains runners and fadeaways at will even when I have a defender right in their face. I think the game is definitely one of the better basketball games I've played, but I'm nearly ready to concede defeat and trade this sucker in.

Wow. This game is fun.

I have just been playing 5 minute exhibitions with different teams and am having a blast. Good stuff.

Love playing the 80's All-Star teams. Bird was my favorite of all time. Some questionable picks for the East, though, with Ainge and Michael Ray Richardson making the squad. Also, Chambers is tough to guard. Magic and Drexler running me out of the gym.

Anyways, thanks for the comments.
