You do know that Apple is expected to release new Nanos pretty soon right?
When? November?
BTW, what case are you guys using for taking the Nano for jogging or the gym?
My son just finished completing his first year of the L.A. City Jr. Lifeguard program, he is CPR certified and the whole nine!! Can swim in deeper ocean waters than this former Marine! LOL
He uses this when doing his daily 2 mile run....(I posted it before).
Damn thing was LAAATE. I just took delivery of one, as a birthday gift for my sister. Well, it's obviously a late birthday gift now. Anyway, she thinks it's great... she doesn't like armbands when working out and didn't like holding her Muvo in her hand. This, she likes.

Trying to play my ipod at work on my work cpu. I installed itunes but it wants to delete my ipod. I have a ton of songs on my ipod that I want to listen to without headphone. Can this be done? I don't want to go by a docking station. I know it can be done, but how? Any help would be great!
As long as you don't select the option that automatically syncs your iPod to the computer and select the "Manually update tracks" option, I think you should be able to use it on the CPU without problems.
I could be wrong though--I don't have mine to automatically sync with any computer so I haven't had to deal with this.
Yup, auto sync will try to sync the contents of the iPod to the iTunes library of the computer you're docked to.
So if your office computer doesn't have any of the songs, it will erase your iPod. Sucks but this is the concession to the RIAA.
The work around is to turn off auto-sync.
But you can also get free software which will dump the contents of your iPod onto a second or third computer.
As for playing back from a docked iPod, that should work but again, you will need to turn off auto-sync because otherwise, it won't let you select, sort or search the tracks on your iPod.
My Ipod appears as a portable drive. I did not intentionaly install anything to get it that way. However, I did install the drivers to get the jpgs off of my 360 memory card for NCAA and I am thinking both devices are using the same protection technology.

That's the best bet. Just buy the speakers...they have an AUX IN so you can hook your ipod up to it and play it through the speakers. That's what I did for my office instead of getting a docking station. Best 30 bucks I've spent. Just run a 3.5mm cable from the ipod headphone jack to the front of the speaker...problem solved. The only downside is that the speakers won't do PC audio and Ipod audio at the same time. No biggie though since I don't listen to much audio on my work PC. But if I do, I just unplug the ipod from the front of the speaker and it works. Much better than unpluggin the speakers from the computer and then into the ipod each time.
Unless you're going to order online, your selection may be limited to what's at your nearby retail stores.
If you get a good case which covers the whole thing especially the screen, then you can just slip it in your pocket, not worry about belt clip, which would add bulk.
I have a 2G Nano, which is about the same size, maybe a bit thicker. The aluminum won't scratch.
But I got an In Case case, which comes with a clip and it covers the click wheels as well. It also comes with an arm band which I use at the gym.
The clip does add bulk and but it's not as bulky as the removable ones. I never use the clip though. I either put it in my front pocket or I look a lanyard through one of the loops so that I can use my Sony or Shure earphones without the extension.
That's the one big improvement you can invest in, an upgraded earphone instead of using the ones which come with the iPod. But a lot of people like to be seen with those white earphones, with the long cable draping down.
There are rubberized skins you can get, if you don't need an armband. Not all of them cover the click wheel.
The other accessory which I use all the time is a speaker dock. So for that I have to slide the iPod out of the case (I can sync or charge it in the case but I can't put it in the speaker dock without taking it out of the case).
So you might want something which is easy to open and take the Nano out.
Actually, I am really enjoying my new nano. I was bummed when my original nano experienced a hardware problem, but I must admit that the battery life is improved, I like the bigger screen and the ability to include videos as well. Dare I say that the sound seems improved as well and the overall thinness of the player is great. Have to get a screen protector.
I'm planning on asking for the I-touch. My work doesn't involve business travel or a need for a cell phone but my commute borders on 2.5 hours a day. In Canada the pricing on the I phone data is pretty ridiculous and I really only need a cell for emergencies (winter driving). I was thinking of picking up a Nano but then saw the I touch and I like the look of the extra features.
Best wishes,
Doug

I'm tempted by the Touch too but it would make it easier if they doubled the highest capacity to 64 GB.
Too large for gym although it has the Nike kit built in.
Wonder where they will go with Nano in the future. There's a rumor that they would have kept it at 8 GB capacity but that MS upping the capacity on their flash Zune to 16 GB forced their hand.
It would make more sense to integrate the Nike kit on the Nano but it probably raises cost too much for a lower-priced product.
Maybe they will turn the Nano to a mini Touch, with the screen taking up the whole face.
fsquid wrote:by the way, what is the difference between the 1st and 2nd generation touches?
Cosmetically, the 2nd generation itouch is thinner. And a few more apps has been added.
2nd gen also has a tinny speaker, like the iPhone. It also is slightly more curved. The apps are the same - they came with the 2.0 software update (you may have to pay $10 for the update, but if you don't need the speaker, picking up a refurb 1st gen is probably a better deal).
So all you have to do is buy a sensor for the shoes, not the part that attaches to the plug.
Also, Apple didn't publicize it but some developers believe the 2nd Gen touch has the fastest processor out of the iPhones and Touches which have come out.
