let's get some slider talk going here! if we all post what we're doing and what results we are getting, we can tweak this game to perfection! I am puzzled at the lack of talk about this. Maybe everyone is just busy enjoying the game? Even on the O/S boards, there is little ESPN slider talk??? There were hundreds of posts about MVP sliders, but ESPN seems to be played by only a handful of DSF posters.

I think a lot of cats here are playing ESPN. It has fewer flaws and requires less tweaking than MVP, in my opinion, so maybe that's why you're seeing fewer slider posts.
Plus there have been 102 responses so far in this thread ... It's pretty rare you see triple-digit post counts in one thread at DSP.
Take care,
PK

I still would like to get higher pitch counts from my starters, as well as throw more walks. I've already turned off power pitching, which has helped a bit, but I am also going to experiment with no vibration aids when pitching. I tried raising the pitching variability slider, but I want to miss more outside, not over the plate (I do enough of that already), and that slider doesn't quite give me what I need.
Slumber, the vibration off will help. I walked 5 with Carlos Zambrano the other night, in 8 innings, even though there were times I was not moving the stick very much. He was just all over the place, although he still managed to strike out 7 and give up just 3 hits.Slumberland wrote:I still would like to get higher pitch counts from my starters, as well as throw more walks. I am walking around 3 batters per game. I don't think I've had a zero walk game in quite some time. I am finding I have to stay at the corners and risk walks, because I am getting nailed often if I drift over the middle.
I also have started having better fatigue and strikeout numbers with power pitching turned off. The Cubs pitchers now really seem to pitch like the Cubs pitchers. I rang up 10 Ks with Prior in a CGSO after he had been only getting 3-4 Ks per game using power pitching.
The other half of the gaming community (PS2) do not have the game yet. There is so much MVP talk because most PS2er's are playing MVP until ESPN comes out. Just a hunch though.JackB1 wrote: I am puzzled at the lack of talk about this. Maybe everyone is just busy enjoying the game? Even on the O/S boards, there is little ESPN slider talk??? Brando, good call. I just walked three batters in a game against the Cubs, with vibration off.
I'm also employing Abner's latest tweak, which is setting the CPU "pitch corners" slider to 65. Like Parker mentioned, it's pretty easy to make contact without even aiming the stick. This change makes you aim a bit more often.

I was doing that for a while but then striking out like a mf even against crap pitchers. I put it back to 50, and now I usually hit bad pitchers but still have trouble with the good ones.Slumberland wrote:Brando, good call. I just walked three batters in a game against the Cubs, with vibration off.

I had a brutal loss last night. Down 3-2 at St. Louis, first game of the series, and Sosa manages to get an RBI single against Isringhausen in the top of the 9th to tie it. Bottom of 9, I have 1 out, facing the loser hitting under .100 (replacing an injured Pujols), one spot before the pitcher, and he takes a LaTroy Hawkins FB deep to center for the win.
This game is like crack. I'm addicted the way I was to ESPN NFL and NBA ID 2003 last year. I haven't touched another game since I bought it.
Jack, I'm using a slightly modified version of snate's, changing the take strikes sliders:JackB1 wrote:Hey Brando & Parker....could u post your current sliders and diff levels?
thanks
Legend
Custom sliders on
Power pitching off
Classic swing (one button, no separate power and contact)
True aim
All pitching aids, strike zone, and vibration off
Low wide camera for batting, pitcher cam for pitching
Auto round bases is on, CPU fielder lock-on is on (so they stay in the circle when they get there), confidence on (I like it), every other aid or mod off.
CPU baserunning aggressiveness: 55
CPU throw strikes (all sliders): 45
CPU take strikes all: 55
CPU take strikes when ahead: 60
All other sliders: 50
So far, pretty good results in my Cubs franchise. I manufacture most of my runs, averaging probably 1 hr a game, walking about 3 times per game. My pitchers are giving up about 8-10 hits and 2-3 walks per game on average, probably striking out 6-7 batters per game, although those are picking up as I'm getting better at pitching.

Pitch speed- Fast. NOT Real. This is important to my sliders. Last year I found hitting to be unbalanced with the 2 swing type cursor, but this year things seem just right. I suppose going to small cursor instead of very small might produce similiar results. But I'd rather see the added break on the ball that you can see better with the fast setting.

It may seem like the contact slider would make the cpu strike out too much, but this isn't the case. I still struggle to strike out the cpu at times.
The hit and run slider seems to have more of an effect than the sac bunt or squeeze slider.
These sliders are for those of you who are willing to nibble while pitching, walk a realistic amount of batters, and work up a near realistic pitch count. Don't be afraid to challenge a hitter with a strike every now and then though, you can catch them looking with these settings.
