Eurogamer has a nice hands on article for the Wii versions of both Tiger Woods 10 and Grand Slam Tennis.

That link is worth a read. Yes, it's about the Wii version, but I think there are some general details that we can possibly infer from it. I read the article a couple of days ago and made the following post at EA Sports forum about it:

In one of EA Live's radio broadcasts, Mike Devault was asked by either Jason or Rob Thompson (the show's hosts, who do a really solid job with something that could easily come off as ridiculously self-serving and cheesy) if he could talk about a feature called "Tournament Challenge". Mike mulled it over and declined, saying that it was scheduled to be introduced later. I could tell that the Thompson brother who asked the question was genuinely stoked about it.

Anyway, I got a strong hint of what Tournament Challenge could mean while reading Eurogamer's preview of the Wii version of the game today. The following sentence was particularly interesting:

"With a host of other pro players other than Tiger set to feature, and a new Tournament mode that'll allow you and up to three friends to play simultaneously online"

Many of us have longed for an online tournament mode that would allow up to a foursome to play together in a centrally administered, real time tournament on EA's server. I don't know whether something like this would be a part of Gamernet, the Daily Tournament, or something else along the lines of user created online tournaments which have been a part of the PC version for years now. Whatever the case, this is another signal that EA Sports has been listening to its user base and responded. I'm anxious to see just how creative they've gotten with Tournament Challenge!

It always seemed like a no-brainer to me to have a multiplayer golf game mode wherein a group of 2-4 all play holes simultaneously, though instead of watching each person swing like real golf, you hit your ball whenever ready and see the other players' balls flying around real-time.

Has any golf game done this?

Tiger Woods 09 has this option... It works great! It's available for individual games setup online, ranked and unranked, but there's no option to play with another player in the online tournament "Daily", which is just a single round event, lasting 24 hours. I'm taking from this that there may some option for or alternative to the "Daily Tournament" that allows multiple playere to play these rounds in groups of 2 to 4, with an option for simultaneous play.

Does anyone know if Tiger 10 will have OFFLINE multiplayer in Tour Mode. This is the reason I passed on 09 and was pissed off about 07 and 08

This hasn't been addressed in anything I've read on the 2010 version thus far. I know it is a question which has arisen frequently over the last three years. Seeing as how EA Sports has resoundingly addressed a number of other frequent complaints about the game in other already announced details (one putter, proper order of play in tournaments, excessive distances), it may very well be that there will be some relief in this area.

EA Sports has a prescribed, deliberate rollout of game details and features to which they are strictly adhering. I would think that this might be an item that would be released in this metered stream of information over the next month and a half.

LOL....At least there is one thing I can claim for impacting TW10....during Community Day, they were talking about making a "Tim mode" for the truly hardcore user who wants the meter hidden and no grid....guess what....it is coming with the new online Tournament features....

Can't wait for the demo either, but I am going to impore to them to include TOUR Pro difficulty in the demo...wish me luck!

Tim, if you need to start a petition to get support for Tour Pro mode in the demo, I'll be the first to sign. Hardcore golf gamers need to see this game in a purer light. I'm really glad you got them to include the ability to get rid of the meter for putting. I want to swing the club without any artificial aids. The animation ought to be enough... it was for Links 2004, with a good deal of practice.

Can I ask a question that shouldn't have NDA implications? How much better is TW 10 vs TW 09, percentage wise?

2%.

What the F kind of question is that? It's not even done, how is anyone gonna be able to tell you the exact percentage it is improved? And how the hell do you measure that percentage anyway?

Again...how do you measure improvement? And if you can somehow come up with a measurement, how the hell do you quantify it into a percentage?

I wish I could answer you, but honestly in the short time I had with the game, I could not possibly compare the two unless I had several days if not a couple of weeks with TW10.

As far as TW10 potential wrt features and gameplay improvements that we saw, played and heard would make it into the final game, the improvement is dramatic to me personally. I would have a hard time quantifying it with a % and it would be very subjective. All that being said, this is the first TW for consles that I am truly anxious to buy and play because I think they will have addressed many of the concerns and feedback that the TW Community has about current and previous games. The fact that the lines of communication are wide open with EA and they are listening and working to implement user feedback is extremely positive and encouraging. I have never seen any TW Dev Team this open to user feedback ever. I like where they are going with this and I also know they will be reading user feedback after the game ships to see if there are any issues or gameplay features that need patching. This is not the EA Tiger teams we have all come to know from the past and I can't see this as anything but a good thing.

EA picking up Mike Devault from Hynotix's Outlaw Golf series is probably the best thing for the Tiger Woods games. Mike was always very involved with the Outlaw Golf community and always looking for feedback to make their game better. While Outlaw Golf wasn't a true sim, it was still a blast to play and it was more sim than the Tiger Woods games of old.

I can't wait to get my hands on this in a couple months. Everything sounds so good to this point, and with Tim's very positive feedback and more that he can't wait to tell us, TW 10 is easily my most anticipated game rightn now.

Forgive me if it's in the thread somewhere, but are they addressing the multiplayer skill system at all? As in limiting the number of skill points someone can use with an online character. The main reason I've gone away from the TW series is I got tired of picking the game up on the first day of release and playing with a guy who hits it 380 off the tee and shoots 48 at Pebble Beach.

Unfortunately no it does not appear so. I am not sure what drives the skill attributes in the console versions and to some degree the past PC versions starting with TW03. I think that online play should be set attributes for everyone (like TW08 for PC) and make the gameplay challenging enough for the most hardcore user to struggle to break par. I hope one of these days I can convince EA to get the game back to the basics....

That being said, I do believe what they have in store for online play will be pretty immersive, especially online tournaments. My understanding also is that even with high attributes, the game will be challenging for even the most hardcore TW user. Won't be long till we see what they mean by all of this.....
