I'm miles away from getting a 360, but this game would be a system seller for me if there ever was such a thing.

There is not, though, but I'm glad you cats are enjoying it. You know how I love my boxing! :)

I also LOVE the idea of user-created boxers. I hope some real fight fans create accurate ratings for fighters not included in the game. That would be b*tchin'.

Somebody get my boy Yuriorkis Gamboa in there now! :)

Are Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez in the game? If so, get them into the ring together NOW! That was the best boxing trilogy of recent years. And also get Jose Luis Castillo and the late, great Diego Corrales in the ring soon, as that two-fight series was EPIC.

Another good one for you guys to try is Manny Pacquiao against Erik Morales. That was another legendary recent trilogy.

Oh, and don't forget Micky Ward against Arturo Gatti. Another EPIC trilogy of the last 10 to 12 years.

Enjoy!

Take care,
PK

I had a classic fight that went 10 rounds with the 41st ranked boxer in my legacy. I knocked him down in the 4th round and had him shaken a couple more times over the next few rounds. I was unable to knock him down but controlled the fight from the outside. He gave one last effort in the 8th where he caught me with a clear uppercut. I fell back against the ropes and was able to regain my bearings by blocking several of his punches and then pushing him away to create some room. After that, he was absolutely gassed. I regained my composure and started picking my spots. The 10th round comes, and he's on fumes. I'm finding my spots and finally let off a flurry of combos, and one hits him clear across the forehead. He starts to fall and I hit him a couple more times on his way down. Knockout! My first and it was thrilling.

My fight before this one went the full 6 and I ended up in a draw with the 44th ranked boxer. I'd love another shot at him as I completely played to his strategy. I attempted to slug it out with him and was reluctant to create space. He was also very good at blocking. I had trouble finding any clear shots at him. Disappointing draw to say the least.

I'm really impressed with the physics engine. You see so many variety of punches landing or shall I say barely landing. Some that graze the cheek, forehead, and others that land square. Body shots that land with oomph and others that just barely have an effect.

Based on those experiences Dan, I guess it's safe to say that there's definitely some strategy involved which I much prefer instead of button mashing like the past while trying to score a KO. I can feel my knees shaking, I may just take a punch in the wallet and give it a go.

Played a bunch tonight including a few online rounds against Zeppo. This game is truly a gem. Not much to add impressions wise as Dan and Zep have pretty much said it all so far.

We have got to get an online tournament going with our created fighters:) I just spent 30 mins creating Mac "The Professional" Man, and yes Zeppo, the trunks are pink and full of sequins. Wait until you see the robe;) If we do get an online tournament started (perhaps in a dedicated thread) I suggest we all create some mean heavyweights and then post their basic stats for everyone to see (e.g. height, weight, boxer style, block style etc...). The number of ratings each fighter gets is mind boggling. It's going to be an absolute blast!

To me, the demo seemed completely stiff...the animations looked awkward. I thought it was a step back from FN3. Everything felt and looked robotic to me, not natural and flowing like they were advertising.

Something about it just seemed off to me. My local gaming buddies felt the same way.

I imagine you're on the 360, correct? Is there anyone who got this game on the PS3?
I am on PS3 too. I couldn't pass up the Gamestop trade-in deal because I had a few titles on the list which had pretty low trade-in/resale values or wouldn't be seeing much more play. I only got to fight 3 times on default vs. the CPU, but it was a lot of fun.

If I pick this up over the weekend, it will be for PS3. I'd love to get in a few matches with you guys.

Well to piggy back on disappointment. Was ranked 38th with my boxer (Spider Rico) and was in my 7th match (6-0 with 3 KO's to that point). I was into the 10th and dominating my opponent, found out after that i was up by 6 points on every score card. One minute to go and all i can hear in the background is Duke from Rocky screaming "Don't punch with him!!" or "Stay away from him!!". Think i could? Hell no, i wanted the KO. Oooops. I get rocked with a counter and as i try to hold on for dear life i get caught with a haymaker uppercut and it's good night Gracie.

On a side note, two fights later i get my rematch and KO him in the fourth, so Dan, plan that rematch. There is nothing quite like the sweet taste of revenge.

Rally,

You hit on something that went through my head last night in my ten round fight. I knew I was up on the score card even though I almost got knocked down in the 8th. In between rounds 8 and 9, my trainers are telling me not to punch with him. Stay away and don't get hung up on the ropes. Heck, even the announcers are telling me that I have the fight in the bag, and it's not worth going for the knockout. Just survive they say. What do I do? I keep going with what got me to the point in the fight. Thankfully, I didn't punch myself out and leave myself open for a haymaker. So, I can imagine your disappointment. But, at least you got your revenge.

Dan "The Iceman" Watts is 6'4 with a long reach. His strategy should be jabs and body shots. A brawler he is not. But every so often, Watts like to get inside and trade 4 or 5 punches like a light or middle weight. Luckily, he's only been clocked a few times. I'm learning as I'm slowly (and the key word is slowly) moving up the ranks. Combos and then move. It's tough though when you go up against those fighters no matter how much punishment they're taking, they're constantly moving towards you.

Before I signed off last night, I recieved an email from some young fighter calling me a punk. He challenged me to a fight. Now, at this point, I'm ranked 39 and he's 44th. He also has 5 KO's in his 7 seven fights. I chose to decline his challenge knowing full well my reputation my take a hit. But, what good would it be if I fought him and lost?

I also received an email from my trainer telling me I had won some yearly award. I looked for a couple minutes but couldn't find what I had won. I was thinking it was prospect of the year, but my name wasn't on there. So, I don't know if it's a glitch or not. I was also surprised at how many fighters retired at the end of the year. There was literally over 20 fighters that retired, many of them young, and quite a few with winning records.

Just a heads up. There is a special promotion from Gamestop where you trade in 3 SELECTED games and you get FNR4 for free. Most of them are recent games but there are some oldies. I am getting rid of Far Cry 2, Quantum of Solace and Mx Vs ATV untamed. Pretty good deal IMO.

Some nice real-life additions. Nice to see my man Vic Darchiniyan among the flyweights. And the Billy Mays heavyweight addition is hilarious! :)

Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn't in the game? I find that stunning. "Money" probably demanded too high of a licensing fee, even for EA.

Take care,
PK

My question is whether these downloadable boxers are just for exhibition fights or are they uploaded in to the legacy. Anyone know?

When I started a legacy, it asked me if I wanted to import created boxers into the legacy, so I'm assuming that means any of your created boxers will appear in the roster there as well.

Yes! Although I haven't tried it out to see how that goes, but it does ask.

And turns out I was wrong, and you CAN use created boxers online - they just show up there as you scroll, at least in unranked games.

It seems at first blush that there are tons of points to spread around when you create, but then in my one pass I ended up with an 86 overall. But I wonder if when we do get DSP tourneys going if we should set a points limit or something. Maybe it's better not to?

One thing I do know is that I suck. Mac KOed me in both matches we tried online. It was fun, by he smacked me around. It does feel like you could take the long view and let a uy punch himself out, though.

One thng is the default round time is 2:00, so I bet for 3:00 rounds stamina would be a much bigger deal. I say we do 3:00 rounds for our tourneys, but you know me, I like the longer, slower stuff.

Just movng and sticking and the inside game is so slick and fun n this game. I'm surprised Spooky had such an opposite experience from me with the gameplay. Maybe it's because the last two games felt so stiff to me that I never got into them, so j haven't really delved into FN since the original.

See! God dammit! Why can't Tiger have that same set up. I want to be able to create a player right off the bat and have a set # of points to distribute that won't max out all catagories. FN has always gotten this right.

I tried playing a few (6 to be exact) matches in the XBL "World Championship Leaderboard" and was thoroughly embarrassed in each and every single matchup. After going 0-6 I'm still not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong. Supposedly each fighter has the same stats to make things fair but I don't seem to be able to do any real damage to my opponent. It seems like most guys focus on the abdomen as its harder to move backward quickly enough to stop getting hit. Hits down there really do a number on your stamina which seems to be at zero about a minute into the first round. I'm not throwing a ton of punches either so it is a real lose lose situation.

Still loving this game though. I'm just hoping I can actually figure out what hte heck I'm doing wrong so I can start winning some bouts!

Is anyone having much success online? I'm being pummeled in just about every single match and its getting to be just plain ridiculous. Its no fun to jump online and get knocked out in the first round whether I'm Mike Tyson, Ali, Joe Fraser, it doesn't matter as I just get my bell rung within 60 seconds. Is it possible to cheese like crazy or am I really that bad? I'm seriously perplexed.

EA Sports online is synonymous with cheese and Velveeta which is why I don't play their games online.

GREED is one of the seven deadly sins. I heard it time and time again last night in my bout against the 36th ranked fighter. Despite me getting knocked down once, I supposedly was leading the fight by a wide margin. So, what did I do in the 10th round? I decided to brawl and got caught with a haymaker to the chin. Down for the count and a very selfish loss on my part.

After that fight, I decided to go in to a Play Now fight with Sweet P and Diego Carlos (sp?). What a unbelieveable difference between punch speed and stamina. Wow. I was floored at how quick these fighters were. No one can complain about sluggish controls with these two fighters.

My jelly knees finally gave in as I traded some games for this title. Just had enough time to build my guy and a quick couple of rounds where I was floored by the opponent for not being patient enough. Why are we so compelled at winning with a TKO rather than going the distance knowing that we have the battle won by just keep jabbing at the opponent?

Instead I go for the home run like probably most of you.

I like the new point system that allows you to heal and get your stamina back in between rounds and although they are far and in between (you ought to have a pretty good round and high % of landed punches) during my few bouts, it's quite rewarding.

One minor complain I have is why did EA strip the button configurations? I much prefer a guaranteed punch on demand rather than the less precise joystick punches. And while the LS and RS are not necessarily bad, at times I do get mixed up in a melee and by the time I pull off my intended blow, I find myself on the receiving end of a M. Tyson hook.

I much rather block with the RT and then counteract with the buttons. And here's is where the game shines, mastering the countering technique, blocking and moving your feet will be key to winning more often. The tactical aspect of the game is there for you to take, yet I find myself trying to end the bouts quicker.

This is the best FN yet IMO, lotta fun just wished there was at least an option for the button configuration.
