I like it better than Oblivion. Oblivion's world was pretty amazing, but I really disliked Oblivion's leveling up of enemies, and Fallout doesn't have that. Plus, it is nice to play an RPG/Action game in this kind of setting. It's like Mass Effect meets Cormac McCarthy. I haven't seen the wandering as aimless -- I'm usually moving from one location to another on a quest, with stops to check out anything interesting on the way. The fast travel option is nice for shuttling between places you've already been.

But, if you didn't like Oblivion and also didn't finish KOTOR or Mass Effect, you might run into issues with Fallout 3. It's a big world, and not a huge amount of direction on the quests. I would recommend renting in that case to see if the game sucks you in enough to keep playing. Right now, after a few days of playing, I like it better than any other 360 game I've played.

Brando, I wouldn't say that if you didn't like Oblivion and didn't finish Mass Effect or KOTOR, you might not like this. I didn't play Oblivion, didn't get through two hours of Mass Effect, never played KOTOR...

...and I love this game. Love the atmosphere. Love V.A.T.S! That's the greatest RPG addition I've seen in a long time-I almost never just shoot at the guys anymore-the cinematic effect of seeing a guy get his leg blown off is too good!

Finished the fire ant quest last night. It actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. If you haven't done that one yet...frag mines are your friend!

After I did that one, I returned to Springdale School-so what's the point of...

*SPOILER*(I suppose)

going into the tunnel and getting attacked by the worker ants? Didn't see anything down there. Did I miss something?

Well, I am not in RPG's at all but love shooters, haven't played Oblivion neither and the game is sitting still in a wrap as I am still sitting undecided. Played Mass effect but lost interest pretty soon. I know many of you love the atmosphere and a buddy of mine even called it game of the year. But do you still see yourselves immersing into the game as GoW2 and CoD 5 approaches?

Yep. GoW2 will be great, the MP is without peer. But it'll end in 10-15 hours, I'd bet, SP. COD 5 is COD 4 with an old dress that we've seen before-I think it'll be good, but I also think it'll be veeeeeeerrrrry familiar.

I'm as surprised as anyone at the amount of sheer fun I'm having with Fallout. I don't generally go for these types of games, but Fallout is in a class by itself, even. I was skeptical at first, while in the Vault, but my tune has changed 180 degrees since venturing out.

I'm even picking up EndWar next week, on top of GoW2. I'll STILL be playing Fallout alot.

Damn, Far Cry 2, GHWT, Fallout 3, RB2, EndWar, GoW2...I've gotta start a schedule... 8O

I bought the game on an impulse and it is very good but I just don't see myself spending the enormous amount of time it takes to play it (if that makes sense). I've got too many other games I'd like to spend time with.

I went back to the supermarket...found a bunch of stuff I had missed (Thanks to Jrod for the flash light)but still no shotgun. Was cool that some of the baddies respawned.

I played a few hours after that...Just wandering north from Megaton. Picked up a side quest at a town ...Some real f***ed up s*** going on at a police station.

Man, I have no idea how you guys play this type of game on the 360. I picked it up for the 360 because I am out of town for the week w/o my PC...so anyway, I just can't get used to the controller for aiming. Sooooo much easier with a mouse and a keyboard. Hopefully I can finish it on the PC before I go under the knife to get the ACL repaired cuz I'm not gonna be able to sit at my desk for quite a while after that. Oh well. Would have preferred the couch, but whatever.

I've gotten use to the 360 controls. I've read there's more detail in the PC version but the 360 version look fine to me.

VATS = don't really need to use controller for aiming in the traditional way.

I only use VATS for combat. It's accurate and more fun. Especially when you get in a good head shot. :)

Yeah. There isn't a very big difference in the look. I didn't mind the 360 version at all. The pc looks slightly better but not that much. The control on the other hand...

8O Wow the reviews indicated there was a sizable gap between the PC and 360 version, cool that's good to know. I've gotten so use to the 360 controller it's become second nature to me.

I did pickup on ebay my favorite mouse which is the Logitech Trackman Wheel. I used to play all my FPS (Quake, Quake 2) with that mouse and was quite good with it. I got it for Fry Cry 2. I may give Fallout 3 a go on the PC if I readjust to the Logitech mouse again.

Yeah...I definitely don't see it. I mean, I'm playing at 1920x1200 full res on my PC...so it's definitely not a HUGE gap. There is slightly more detail on the human player models, but overall...it's still pretty polished on the 360.

Had my first freeze on PS3. Started with no voice overs during conversations, then I went to access my Pip boy, and it froze. Had to reboot the PS3.

Other than that, the game is running great on PS3.

I use VATS always unless I run out of points, and by then, my enemy is either is either in close range for manual aiming, or I get behind cover until I have action points again.

But Fallout is particularly clunky for aiming. It's less precise than other FPS games like Bioshock and CoD 4 that had very quick, accurate aiming.

That's because it's not really a FPS. Been learning that the hard way. I'm starting to play it like the FPRPG that it is, and have had much better luck.

The only time I dont' use VATS is to brush aside Radroaches or Molerats or finish off the occassional Raider.

Why kill without the cinematics...especially after getting the bloddy mess perk?

I am absolutely LOVING this game.

I'd have to disagree on the PC and 360 looking similar.

360 running in 1920x1080 on my monitor looks quite inferior to the PC version running in 2048x1152 with everything maxed. It's incredibly gorgeous on PC, whereas I can still see a lot of fogging and things that cover up the 360 hardware a bit. PC version, I can see for miles, and even see city guards from a mountain away.

I just said there wasn't as big of a gap as the reviews have mentioned. Of course the draw distance is better on the PC...I was talking from city to city (or rubble to rubble) it's pretty similar. I also mentioned the player models are also inferior on the consoles.
