Wii officially $250 on Nov. 19

Well, I think the point is that there is a whole new range of possibilities thanks to the new control scheme. Some may work, some may fall flat, but I can very well imagine simulating a shooting motion with simple arm and wrist moves, and can't imagine any better way of simulating a jump shot or free throw.EZSnappin wrote:I'd love if they could do hoops, but I don't know how well a shooting motion would translate (do you hold a button at the same time for timing/fakes?). The idea of controlling accuracy and not just timing would be a treat. If a developer gives it a try I'll throw some dollars their way.
I just read that the PS3 version of 2k7 has an option to do free throws by "shooting" the controller. With the Wii remote having such greater sensitivity you are surely on to something.Zeppo wrote: Well, I think the point is that there is a whole new range of possibilities thanks to the new control scheme. Here's hoping!
I agree, sports games won't particularly shine on Wii, and I don't personally plan on getting too many sports games for Wii. There could, however, be a few gems in there.
Imagine this:
NHL 08, but instead of right stick controls for deking, it is mapped to the wii mote. Flick your right wrist open to move your stick right, and vice versa for going left. That would capture all the excitement generated by the right stick control on this board, but implemented into an even more intuitive and immersive fashion. Personally, I think that general type of scheme could be phenomenal.

Good Madden video of new controls in action. I think it's definitely worth trying out.

I didn't know they were using those cards on the Wii, saves me from picking up a memory card when I get the system as I already have a couple of those for my digital camera.bdunn13 wrote:2 gig memory card for the Wii with no rebate, 37 bucks.. if you want to do the rebate its 28... not bad.

I ordered mine earlier.

If the Wii-Mote is in fact sensitive and accurate enough to allow subtle things like turning your hands for back-spin in tennis, a curveball in baseball, or to direct your pass in football, then I think we will definitely see developers take advantage of it.
I've heard that it is, but also heard that it can be unruly depending upon room setup/TV height etc.
I hope it's as good as it seems like it could be...I've got mine reserved, and just hope it's worth it...

Thanks for the tip on that site. I like it. Any site that starts a hands-on review of the Wii with this sentence, "2old2play gets high on Wii'd for three hours in this in-depth preview ... " is all right by me. Clever.

And considering the site is geared for gamers 25 and older, I qualify for membership by a spry 16 years ...

Thanks,
PK

Glad that you liked it. I thought the "Wii'd" line was pretty damn funny too... and certainly infinitely more funny that most of the Wii puns we have heard and are bound to hear.pk500 wrote:Kaz:Kazuya wrote:Hands on with the Wii, courtesy of 2old2play...

The Wii sports collection concerns me a bit. For instance, in regards to the tennis game, all you do is make the motion of swinging the racket. You have no control of running to the ball. The computer runs for you?!?! I'm hoping the other sports games are bit more involved.
Anyone have anymore information?

From my reading, I have gathered that the Wii Sports games all are pretty basic. More pick-up-and-play than anything else. Sports party games, designed for ease of play and fun.
Take care,

Tenis and baseball are very basic, though I did read that you can now pitch as well as hit. From what I've read about boxing, you can bob & weave and step back by moving the remote & chuk side to side and by pulling them in to your chest. Bowling allows you to line up and change angles like you would in real life, but you don't control the approach beyond initiating the motion. I have no idea about the golf game.
I would expect someone to make a real tennis game in the future, where you control the player with the joystick on the nunchuk.

Came across this article the other day at N-Sider and forgot to post it here. Really well thought out piece on FPS control possibilities on the Wii.

Wii launch guide.

From there, it says the Wii has 512Megs of internal flash ram which can be used for game saves.. I guess I did not need that 2 gig SD card I just got in the mail yesterday.

Iwata comments on the depth of Wii sports;

I can't say it's terribly convincing, as that still sounds pretty basic to me. The tidbit about Wii Golf using holes from the original Golf programmed by Iwata is kinda fun though.

If you plan on downloading a bunch of classic NES, SNES, and N64 games you might. Perhaps being able to transfer them to someone elses Wii but i'm only guessing.bdunn13 wrote:Wii launch guide.

Though I'm not positive, I am pretty sure the virtual console games will be downloaded to the flash memory and the user will be blocked from transferring them.LAking wrote:If you plan on downloading a bunch of classic NES, SNES, and N64 games you might. I have heard that they can be put on an sd card although i too doubt you can actually transfer them, but maybe you could just play them off the sd card on a different system.Naples39 wrote:Though I'm not positive, I am pretty sure the virtual console games will be downloaded to the flash memory and the user will be blocked from transferring them.LAking wrote:If you plan on downloading a bunch of classic NES, SNES, and N64 games you might. I'm hoping that I will be able to walk into the massive Times Square Toys R Us and find plenty of units stacked up, ready to go. That's what I did for the GameCube, not on launch day but maybe a week or two later. I'm not sure what day I will be able to go there, but if I can go on launch day I will. I'll try to check if you still need one when I do go there, and would be happy to ship one to you if I can get my hands on an extra.grtwhtsk wrote:

But I could be wrong, and be unable to get one easily. We'll have to wait and see.
