Looks like a decent size Championship ground - what's the capacity, about 15,000 ?
Were you in amongst the travelling Wednesday ultras in the bottom photo, or holding the camera ?

I think you can actually see me and my two year old daughter in that first picture. (My monitor at work is slowly dieing and I can't see photos too well--I'll take a look tonight at home.)fsquid wrote:I wasn't in Rochester, I went to the match last Wednedsay in Cary, NC? Fun game to be at. The difference between A-League football and English Division One (err, Two, championship, whatever) was pretty evident. Wednesday is by far the most entertaining team I've seen here this year.
Wednesday had about 40-50 supporters and they were friendly and vocal. Unfortunately, the Rochester fans response to most of their songs was either, "let's go Rhinos", "U-S-A", or stomping their feet--all pretty lame.
I had a good conversation with one of the Wednesday supporters about the players you mentioned Squid. Bougherra was out injured. He explained that Burton was a good striker "in name only" and that McClean was really the man.
Pretty prolific as McClean scored both goals. The first was awesome, upper corner volley, right where the post and cross-bar meet, our GK Vallow, didn't even move. Second? Didn't see it. the little one was ready for bed in the 60th minute.
Burton has some skills for sure, but what stuck me most was the fact he didn't cross midfield the entire game--couldn't be bothered. (I guess,it was an exhibition after all.)
Dave, as to our brand-new stadium...it's alright. Nothing fancy, just bare-bones and it's in the worst neighborhood in the city...with literally no parking. There's a plan to expand to close to 20, 000 at some point, but we can't even sell-out 13K, so I don't see the point.
Constant talk of landing an MLS expansion or relocation team. It actually got hot and heavy last week regarding Salt Lake relocating here...we'll see. Thing is, as well as we support the Rhinos, the season ends in September at the latest...it's a summer-time diversion for most of the crowd. If we started playing an MLS Schedule into October/November, nobody would show, it's strictly American Football season around here at that point, and this town goes nuts for the Bills. Heck even the Sabres don't draw until the Bills season is over, how would a MLS team cope?
McClean is the fan favorite no doubt. He added to that legend by coming off his 3 month injury in 2005 and netting the equalizer from the spot in the League 1 playoff final.
Burton gets a bad rap because his finishing is so erratic. But the stats don't lie, he puts the ball in the net a good amount of times.

According to Beckenbauer they are still far in the money department, I still see him playing the friendly vs Celtic, although his days are definitely numbered in MU.fsquid wrote:Ruud to Bayern?? Bayern have made another bid to United. If signed, Maakay or Pizarro would go.
Looks like H. Crespo will be returning to Italy and play for AC Milan if a reasonable offer comes to Chelsea.

We're still the only team to be relegated the year after winning the title...beat that ! And we scored the most goals of any team and had two 7-1 wins.fsquid wrote:Look at that. My boys at #15, better than that City crap that Dave brings over here.
And that, my friends, is how the quintessential phrase of any Blue came about.
"...Typical City"

Former captaincy is a required in your resume.sfz_T-car wrote:Niall Quinn names himself Manager of Sunderland.
In other news, I've asked US Soccer to reconsider my application for US National Team Coach. I had been concerned that my limited experience with FM/CM and my son's U-11 team would be a negative, but the hirings of Dunga and Quinn prove otherwise.

Niall Quinn is a football genius.
he's certainly more intelligent than the mass of soccer players, and Roy Keane was scared of him.
That should gee his players up.

Only an honorary MBE, because he's an Irish citizen. So he can't quite do everything
Never forget him shoving Keane about 5 yards in a somewhat tense FA Cup tie between City and Utd in 97 (just after the big, brave Roy was trying it on our 17yr old midfielder). Keane turned round ready for a go, and walked off when he saw it was Quinny.
Bog-trotting sh*thouse, a mere shell of a human being. [/i]

Italian soccer punishments cut.
Fiorentina and Lazio back in Serie A with increased penalties (one will prob go down then)
Juventus still down, penalty cut to -17. Prob back up next season, the cheating gets.
Pretty much as I predicted.

I hear now that Palermo are taking the Italian Fed to court, because AC Milan's entrance into the Champs League (thanks, no doubt, to Berlusconi's back stairs influence, the corrupt tw*t) bumps little Palermo from the CL into the UEFA Cup.
This one is gonna run and run.
Latest I hear is that AC Milan helped to set Juventus up with the Police..nice.
