Another OT: free DVD codecs

Post by Gangrel »

As I slowly try to get my new machine up and running, I keep hitting new problems.

Apparently, my LG DVD-RW didn't come with a DVD codec, which I found out when I tried to play a DVD. Is there any good *free* codecs out there I can download, or do I have to pay for them?

It's not the DVD drive that doesn't have the codec...it's Windows in general. There isn't a built in DVD player at all. Search a little on google, I'm sure one or two will turn up. I've never had to do that since I have a legit copy of Power DVD that came with my Vaio laptop. I just used it on my desktop and it was fine.

Do a search for Media Player Classic. It will play DVDs and is great for other types of media files as well.
