NBA Street 3 Info (I think a lot of us will be very happy)

Post by Spooky »

At work last night at EB I picked up our display box for NBA Street Vol. 3 and noticed that they were advertising full 3 on 3 online play. I did NOT realize this was going to be included:

"Street Goes Online -- Play online against the nation's baddest ballers in 3-on-3 showdowns with five other live players, or attract the best players to your 'hood by hosting games on your created court. New World Environments -- Twelve authentic courts stretch across the globe including new venues in Europe and Brighton Beach. Each court has new lighting and detailed graphics with its own unique setting."

I don't know how many here were aware of that but I did not think they would give us that option. I know there was a thread here a few days ago about how a lot of us really miss the sports games that gave us an option to include 6 players from different consoles online like Rivals Pond Hockey.

This game looks like it could be a total blast with five other guys playing. I know a few here were already interested in this title (as am I) and this just seals the deal for me (and hopefully gets some others from here onboard as the more the merrier)!

That would really be surprising and uncharacteristic for EA.

Or maybe they meant 3 players at each console as opposed to 1 player each at each console?

I'm in regardless. This and Fight Night are far away my favorite games when it comes to EA Sports.

LOL there was only one. It was Rivals. I was hopeful that XSN sports would include the feature in all their upcomming sports titles, and who knows, maybe they planned to, but those titles never saw the light of day.

This has certainly piqued my interest in this title, which was heretofore nill. I did try was it the 2nd one or the first one on a rental and enjoyed it OK. For what it is, i think it is actually quite good. Lots and lots of should button combo pressing though. It's like a fighting game in the combo moves, and it's more about the moves IMO than about the game, if you follow me.

But maybe full multiplayer (OMG teammates, real human teammates in a sports game 8O ) will be fun for a while. But I'm not sure if this is the game i've been hoping would be mutli-xbox mutliplayer. Now, WE on the other hand could be such a thing in some alternate universe, not that if it happens we'd ever see it in NA. . . .

This is a step in the right direction though...

This game just screams for 3 on 3 over LIVE. I thought the first two installments of this series were great. And I usually HATE bottn combo mashing games. The EA Big games just seem to make it easier to pull off even if you have no idea what you are doing. More intuitive I think. And I think the game balances the tricks with actual gameplay nicely. This series has got to be one of the most fun, trash talking multiplayer games that I have played in a long time and to be able to do it over LIVE with up to 5 other players is just icing on the cake!

Hopefully the "everyone live" concept will take off. It probably wouldn't translate into great gameplay for something like football, but hockey would be a lot of fun.

I just can't play this game with an xbox controller. The game really needs the 4 shoulder buttons that you have with the PS2.

YEah, all those EA Big games really are built for the PS2 controller but after a little while I was used to the X-Box one. Small trade off for better graphics, sound and LIVE play.

Well the only preview on IGN is for the PS2 version and it specifically said it's only 2-player. However, they will have online dunk contests and the ability to play with created players and courts.

Hopefully the preview is wrong and EA is making a bold step, although i agree this isn't really a team-oriented game.

But I've seen talk that future generations of consoles will allow "spectator" mode. This isn't really new technology. It's just connecting more than two devices together and the additional consoles could be used for spectators or additional participants.

This is straight from EA's site:

It says the same thing for the PS2 version as well.

My nephew got volume 2 a few months back and I borrowed it from him. It is all I have been playing on my xbox the last few days. It is very fun and I can't wait for vol. 3 to hit the shelf. I am playing on the medium difficulty and the things that happen if you or the computer are down big to get said person back into the game makes me want to throw my controller through the screen. Speaking of controllers..vol. 2 didn't use the white or black buttons except to pocket GBs... so why would u need 4 shoulder buttons? Can you not do all the same combos that you can on the PS2 with the xbox?

I could see where the PS2 might only have a 2 player online limitation since it isn't broadband only. Xbox live should be able to pull this off ala Rivals.

I noticed that. I may have to pick this game up now. It's hard to believe the holidays just ended with all the good games coming out this quarter.

Exactly! I loved the first one, but never found time to play the second. This could be excellent.

Well if they do this, there's hope for EA yet.

NFL Street 2 does not support more than 2-players I believe and the PSP versions of NFL and NBA Street seemed limited as well.

Not to mention all the versions of Tiger except possibly the PC version. Golf is probably the easiest to pull this kind of feature off since it's turn-based.

Does anyone recall whether or not you could play with the gamebreakers off in vol. 2? Just curious. I wish that would be an option in Vol. 3.

I'm starting to get pumped for this game.

They started posting teams and player ratings.

OMG That video is something! I don't get excited about screenshots and videos, but that gets a decisive Dick Enberg "Oh, my!".

No need for 4 shoulder buttons anymore

Post by ribbit »

Apparently they've changed how the combo system works so now combos are done on the right analog stick. All consoles should enjoy the same gameplay, which is nice since they pretty much butchered it for NGC and moves were difficult to pull off on the Xbox.

Personally I'm looking forward to the NGC with Mario and crew since I could care less about online. EA's track record with basketball games online hasn't exactly been all that great but maybe the Street team will do better.

Well I got an email from EAS trying to get me to order from them.

I noticed the description of the online feature is changed now:
Take Your Game Online: Represent online against the nation’s greatest ballers—anywhere, anytime.
Oh well, it would have been nice.
