Is everyone switching from Halo 2 to GR 2?

Post by laurenskye »

I like the stealth in FPS like GR a lot more than the run and gun Unreal Tournement style in Halo 2. I haven't picked up GR2 yet and was thinking about trading in Halo 2 for it. Any one else find they're playing GR 2 more than Halo 2?

I'm keeping Halo2
.

Debating a purchase of either GR2 or HalfLife 2. Not both.

I'm definitely keeping Halo 2, at least for a while. I like the single player game and the multi-player is a nice change of pace from the slower GR style of play.

I will be picking up GR2 as well.

I'll be playing GR2 a hell of a lot more than Halo 2. IMO, HALO is the most overhyped / overrated game this holiday season. Hell this year... hell maybe ever. I just don't see what all the hoopla is about that game.

Anyway, after one night with GR2 I can tell this game will most likely have some legs. The online interface is total crap, but the actual gameplay is tops.

Traded Halo 2 in for GR2. Got $43 for it at EB. While Halo 2 is certainly NOT a bad game, it just was not doing it for me. I know I keep saying this but it really felt more like Halo 1.5 than a true three year later sequal. I was dissapointed.

I love both games, and will be playing both for a long time.

The 'Live' phenomenon of everyone playing the newest game can be quite frustrating, especially when (IMO) there are several good games out there to be played. I understand the limited aspect of everyone's time, however, so there's really not too much you can do about it.

We all also have too much disposable income.

For my part, I'm keeping and hopefully playing both GR 2 and Halo 2, and still hoping for an occasional Battlefront night.

I planned on playing Halo 2 through once or maybe twice and then selling it. So far, nothing has changed my mind. I like it a lot, but I've never kept a "twitch" shooter for very long.

GR2 is a long term keeper for me as long as online play holds up.

James,

Half Life 2...I cannot emphasize how badass that game is man. I haven't played GR2 so I can't compare, but I can pretty much bet that HL2 is the better game. You'll just miss out on the GR2 poker nights in here, which I'm willing to do.

What he said. . . . I'm exactly of the same mind. GR2 and Halo2 are different enough, I don't need to replace one with the other.

i will continue to play espn nhl 2k5 the most though - that's my addiction..

What they said. I will be getting GR2 and CoD but I'm not sure when. I will get one now and save one for a Christmas present. I'm leaning towards GR2 now but haven't heard anything about CoD yet. Battlefront is a keeper because I can pop it in at any time and get a quick fix of Star Wars action. The surface of Halo 2 multiplayer hasn't even been scratched around here and the single-player is phenomenal. We could literally play every night for 3 months and have a different setup each night.

I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.

I'm definitely keeping both. They're two totally different games. One is a realistic military shooter and one is a sci-fi action shooter. I love GR poker nights and will be there every week. But I also love the gameplay style of Halo 2 and will continue to play it as well. Even if everyone here at DSP drops it I'll still have a few hundred thousand other people I can test my plasma rifle skills against.

I don't need to test those skills. I know I've got them.

LS:

You're in the same ship I was two days ago. I sold Halo 2 and bought GR 2, and I don't regret it for one second. Just do it, man.

I much prefer the tactical, military style of GR 2 online to the frantic, run-and-gun twitch style of Halo 2 online.

Based on your quote above, GR 2 would be better suited for you if you are picking between either GR 2 or Halo 2.

Good luck!

Take care,
PK

Half-Life is PC only so I can't even give that a try.

I'll gamefly GR. But the last couple of FPS games I tried based on SR glowing recommendations, I hated. Splinter Cell, GR1, Some game in the jungle. Rainbow Six. Hell I don't remember all of them.

What's the new WW2 game that is supposed to be like the America's Army Game (I can't remember what it was called.)

John:

Call of Duty for the Xbox and PS2, maybe? I'm not up on PC games, so I don't know if there's a hot WWII PC title coming out.

And if you didn't care for GR, GRIT or Rainbow Six 3, then I highly doubt you'll like Ghost Recon 2. But if you never tried those three games online, then you owe it to yourself to try GR2 with us on Xbox Live. It's fantastic.

Take care,
PK

This is why I don't pay any attention to what anyone else does. I buy what I buy to play and I certainly don't hang my hat on Xbox Live play. For me, and I absolutely detest console shooters, Halo 2 has lived up to and exceeded the hype. It is fabulous in single player mode and even better in multi-player. Don't like twitch games? Then play big team battles with CTF or bomb drop. Having 8 players on a team allows you to pick your own style for the game. As bad as I suck at twitch shooters, I do quite well in CTF games because I can choose what I want to do.

As for Ghost Recon, I'm looking forward to getting online with it and hope to play with you guys soon, but I also enjoy playing pickup games as well.
