If so, is anyone interested in some Counter-Strike action? It might be fun to play with you guys...I hear there's voice chat in the new version.

Without question. I'm hearing "best game ever" type reactions from people that I know that have it.

Think you guys will be up for some counter-strike? I'm thinking with just DSPers it'll be more fun...none of that horrible camping business or anything.

Huh...just noticed I went over 100 posts...

Will have it for sure. It's gonna be hard to chose between Halo 2 multiplayer and counter strike source. A DSP game does sound fun. No camping, and i think the skill level will be fairly even, similar to Halo 2.

I have HL2 pre-ordered through Steam. I already have CS: Source on my PC because of the preorder. Because the HL2 files are already on my PC I will instantly have HL2 when it is released...just needs to be unlocked :) I'm hoping that is midnight Sunday.

There's a long, interesting read on the development of HL2 on gamespot. Talks a bit about the internal struggles at Valve and the decisions made about release dates, etc.

I'm sort of torn on it. The only pc in my house that can run it is my laptop, so I don't know if it's worth it.

I also already have it pre-loaded through Steam, but no such luck last night. Here is what it says in the Steam News section:
If you have purchased a copy of Half-Life 2, we are sorry you are still waiting to play. This is not Valve's choice. Vivendi is insisting that the game has not yet been released, and has threatened that Valve would be in violation of its contract if we activate the Half-Life 2 Steam authentication servers at this time.

Thanks for your patience and we will update you when we have more news to share.
Crap, oh well, hopefully at midnight tonight. I am going to try and setup a CounterStrike Source Server for DSP if anyone is interested.

I guess it depends on the specs of your laptop. Supposedly they have gone to great lenghts to get this game working on a wide range of platforms. From the miniFaq:
While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to scale and work on lower-end machines. Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended.

I'm probably going to get it. Will have to keep it on the down low tho. My wife might throw a fit with all the purchases made lately. I was into CS back in 200-2001, will be cool to see how it plays. What changes are to CS are there suppose to be?

I caved and picked up the "Silver" package off of steam. Played some CS Source for a bit. I never played the orginal CS that much, but it seems like it could be fun.

What little time I've spent with it gave me the impression that this leans heavily on the arcade side and team work / strategy doesn't play too big of a part. Seems like it's just a last man standing sort of game as the bomb never got planted in the 45 minutes or so that I spent w/ it.

All i know is that I'm way behind the power curve as far as skill and knowledge goes with this game and I really never stood a chance to stay alive very long.

Actually I used that trick with my purchase of Halo 2. LOL!

And will do it again...I rejoiced when they switched PC games to the smaller boxes.

I'm open enough with my wife that I wouldn't ever try to hide s***... especially if money was an issue.

Truth: is it the money that's an issue? Or is it just that she has something against "those goddamn games"? (Feel free to tell me to f off and mind my own business.)

She hates "those goddamn games". But she just bought a $100 diaper bag for the new one coming in March, so I can use that against her..hehe.

Oh...F off and mind your own business!

Guys..question.

Can you just buy Half-Life 2 and then download CS:source like you did with the old halflife? I'm assuming if u just buy HL2, then you will install steam and download CS through it. But will it cost anything?

If you buy HL2 it comes with Counter Strike Source apparently. At least it does if you buy it through Gamestop. I guess we'll see if it does with the Best Buy version when I get it in a few hours.

I played it from 3:00am to 6:00am this morning. Really cool so far, but I don't know if its just the newness factor or not. I was blown away by both Far Cry and Call of Duty the first couple days and quickly got bored so I guess it could happen with HL2. No bugs at all encountered yet. Overall it actually runs pretty well on my old P4 1.8, 512 Ram, 128 mb Radeon 9500. However, there is ALOT of loading time. I forgot about that being a big part of the original Half-Life, but it is like 100 times worse in HL2. Maybe its just my machine, but with 512mb I figured it would not take so long. The game is really immersive, but the frequent and long load times can really kill the continuity factor. It is the first non racing game in a long time that I am jonesing to go home and play while I am still at work.

Buying the Silver Package on Steam gives you HL2, Counter Strike Source, and basically the whole Valve back catalog. Including Source engine upgrades of the original Half-Life (already available), as well as a source engine upgrade of Day of Defeat (coming soon). Pretty good deal I think. Downloading and installation was suprisingly fast on my Comcast cable.
