The game is actually a lot more of an rpg than either the BArd's Tale or Fable. While I like both of those games, this one is definitely my favorite rpg of the year.
I tried for about an hour and it is quite good, not bad at all, I could get into this game for sure. I was suprised to see it was turn-based though, not usually my thing but the game seems to kick @ss.

As for the Bard's Tale, it was the first game in a long time that i finished to the end, took me around 23 hours to complete. Loved it.

Here is a game (RTS) that i want to get my hands on after watching this:

Grog,
How did you beat the boss of the island tower? I only have 9 adderstones so I use them 3 at a time for 3 short invincibillities. Even then, the dude always manages to disappear while I'm invincible and reappear when it wears off. When he starts raining fireballs from the sky, my life goes down faster than a $2 whore. Can you help a brother out?

As for the Lord of the Rings game, I played it from 10:00 yesterday morning until 9:10 last night. I have never played a game that long in one sitting before. The game is not getting a lot of talk, but I'll tell you it's already my favorite non-sport game of the year. I've put about 20 hours into it so far and I've completed about 40% of the game. The story is so well done and it's brilliant the way it intersperses with the story of the three movies. I think that's what kept me playing it so long yesterday...it's like a great book and you just don't want to put it down.

The turn based combat is perfect and I've really had some epic battles that required me to really think about what strategies I should employ. The game is hard enough to keep you on your toes, but not foolish hard like some rpgs that frustrate you to the point of quitting.

At this point, as much as I love Halo 2, I'd still give the nod to Lord of the Rings as my favorite game this year.

Wow. This game has been decidedly under the radar, but I've been curious for a little while. This kind of talk is going to drive me to get this one!

How did you beat the boss of the island tower?

I ran around like a mofo until he re-appears then shot him full of arrows ( have my bow able to shoot 3 qick power shots at a time) you really have to run around and re-generate your compadres and when he appears you have to go at him hard, watch your mimi-map for the red dot.

As for the Lord of the Rings game, does the turn-based stuff get into a lot of strategy? Make you think about it? Also..is it hard to die becaue I had thought i had heard that you can blow through it until end bosses. I'm actually very interested in this game now.

Check out that movie I posted above....wow!

Actually, I'm playing the game on normal and I've died quite a few times and other times I managed to scrape by with one party member alive. One of your party members gets a revive spell and it is vital to your success in the game. It's probably the spell I've used the most in the game. I know the IGN review mentioned something about it being hard to die, and this may be true in the early parts of the game, but later on, you can die easily without proper planning. Keep in mind, this is on normal, so if you want more of a challenge you can always bump it up to the next level. One of my pet peeves with any game is dying and having to replay the same sequence over and over. I can't stand to advance forward, get killed, and spend an hour getting back to where I was.

I think EA did a great job with the game. The difficulty to me is just right, but leans a little to the easy side, but like I said, I'd rather it be this way than dying over and over in some insanely hard battle. My suggestion would be to try it on normal and if you find it too easy, then go to the next level. Another cool feature I forgot to mention is after awhile you will unlock Evil Mode. Evil Mode allows you to participate in a series of battles as the bad guys. Usually, there are 3 battles with each one getting a little harder, and the final battle resembles a boss battle. Win all 3 and you will be awarded with cool equipment and items that can actually be saved into your saved game. Really neat feature.

"Oh it's baaad luuck to beee yoooouuuuu!"

This Bard's Tale is a fun game! I just wanted to bump this in case it slipped through the cracks for some of you. I finally got around to renting it, and the story and humor is quite funny. And after getting over graphics that were slightly worse than I had expected, I'm really enjoying the difficulty and gameplay of the combat.

So far (just past the 1st tower) I dig this far more than fable.

Yeah, I think I finally beat it in about 17 hours but it was a blast all the way. Definitely in my top 5 games of the year.
