College Football Dicussion for the weekend
Just thought I would get one up. Not much to add other then Miami played like they ate a few too many refried bean burritos before they played Houston. Some of those drives where Houston was running the ball right up Miami's defenseive gut should be a cause for concern. That and a lack of offense as a few of their scores were due to fumbles and blocked punts.
And a nice story out of South Carolina... First there was Radio and now we have Pops. Who knew Lou Holtz was such a softie.

Did you misread the title? This is for discussing college football. Not great college basketball teams from the early 1980's. At least this week you are playing an oppenent nearly as talented as the one Oklahoma faces.fsquid wrote:wow, a post by you without a Memphis barb?
OU (this week @ home BYE)
Memphis (on the road @ UAB)
UAB lost a few players the last time they faced BYE. Heck the Aggies got lost trying to find their stadium.

Yeah the Canes looked terrible. They have notoriously played down to their opponents, and yes, it concerns me.
The thing about the Hurricanes is that they are competing with the Dolphins to see who can score the least amount of points on offense this year. They both look like freakin' JV teams.
I wouldn't be surprised if either teams Defense outscores their offense. Certainly that won't happen, but by the looks of it, I wouldn't be surprised.

the more you talk s***, the more my team wins. Keep it up!bdoughty wrote:Did you misread the title? This is for discussing college football. Not great college basketball teams from the early 1980's. No doubt about Orton but that defense is questionable. Illinios is not a good team.
Texas Tech comes back once agian thanks to two missed FG's by Kansas.
How about those Trojans, whoops I mean Cardinals. Put down your video games folks this one is shaping up to be a classic. USC giving up a 80+ yard run at the end of the half as time expired. I guess we will see just how great USC is with those second half adjustments they are always getting credit for.
UAB 21 - Memphis 7 Half
and Pittsburgh was able to comeback to beat Furman

Tech vs. Kansas
I'll admit it. I was worried about a blowout when Kansas was up 30-5, just before the half.
Leave it to the evil genius Mike Leach to pull another win out of his ass and win the game with a RUNNING PLAY on 3rd and 7.
Can't play that bad against Oklahoma and expect the Sooners to let you stay in the game. If Tech goes 2-2 in October, I'll be happy, but 1-3 would be a stretch for this team.

Well it looks like they are the kings of second half adjustments. That and the USC defense just destroyed Stanford.
Yea that blew me away just as it did the Kansas Defense. As for next week I would be a little more worried about Tech if the game was played in Lubbock.Leave it to the evil genius Mike Leach to pull another win out of his ass and win the game with a RUNNING PLAY on 3rd and 7.
Uggg, I can't believe Boston College lost to Wake Forest like that. What is going on with the kicking game in college football. Crap, all we have is defense, we are screwed without a good kicker and punter. Oh well, we could have been 4-0, but we still will beat Notre Lame.
Pittsburgh coming back like that makes this worse though.

I would not put that in the bank just yet. ND has won three straight and they play BC at home. We will see how good ND is in the next few weeks with Purdue, Stanford and the one I am looking most forward to at Navy (who just has to beat AF on the road to be undefeated for the game and have 2 week to prepare). This might just be Navy's year to beat ND and break the 40 game losing streak.Oh well, we could have been 4-0, but we still will beat Notre Lame.
LOL, BC is hardly a lock against ND.Parker wrote:Uggg, I can't believe Boston College lost to Wake Forest like that. What is going on with the kicking game in college football. Syracuse gets ripped at Virginia; Mike Hart runs for 99 yards for Michigan against Iowa.
Any wonder that I'm almost to the point where I'm checking the TV schedule to record Michigan games before I set the DVR to record the Syracuse game?
Out,

good call, one day before I die, I hope we can beat them. It's funny, Memphis can beat Louisville, Ole Miss, Tennessee, etc. but can't beat a team that plays in Birmingham. I just don't get it.bdoughty wrote:UAB 35 - Memphis 28 FINAL
I seem to recall picking UAB to win by 7 before the game started.![]()
Well there is one less Mid Major for the BCS to worry about.
Can't win a defensive struggle? So you apparently did not watch the Michigan - ND game this year? Do you remember what the halftime score was and how poorly both offenses played? Your college football knowledge is right on par with Pro Basketball. The Yankee ranting is bad enough and I have stayed away from that thread because like Squid has learned today - Karma can be a b*tch and Red Sox fans are a big testament to that. Notre Dame may be evil but their payroll is far under that of the Montreal Expos and Steinbrener is not an Irish Alumn.Parker wrote:Ah, it's not like we haven't beaten ND many times before when they were supposed to a better team. The fact we are both average teams, but I don't think ND can win in a defensive struggle.
Oh and before you even consider throwing out the "family atmosphere/real team spirit/we play for the love of the game" at Boston College (compared to ND).... Let's not forget those gambling issues from the late 90's.

I know you hate Ole Miss and are taking some solace in the fact Wyoming beat them this weekend.
It is going to be a tough year for alot C-USA teams due to having so many average teams. Houston will be getting better each week but still far from good. TCU is Jekyll and Hyde and just got beat by So Florida. Cincy lost to Syracuse (need I say more). Of course you do have Army which equals a win for any team playing them.
It is a two horse race with So Miss and Louisville both trying to go undefeated since they do not play each other. Which is a shame because it would be a good game.
Arizona State was flat tonight but still won. Their next test is next week against Oregon. Not going to look ahead..but if they win that game..wow...lol. Seriously..they were very flat tonight..and they can not afford to play flat in pac 10...anyone can win on any given Saturday. On the whole..pac ten sucked..Notre Dame beating Washshinton did not help...I saw that Navy won today..would not put it past them to beat Nd....lol. Just hope Sun Devils can get by Oregon next week..then take the bye week to prep for USC. Was suprised about VA tech score also...Anyway...west coast reporter here letting you know what is going on with the late night games.
Didn't realize you were such a ND fan.bdoughty wrote:Can't win a defensive struggle? So you apparently did not watch the Michigan - ND game this year? Indeed I watched that Michigan game as well as most of all of their games. The difference is BC tries to play that type of game, Michigan doesn't. ND has some speed and offensive threats, which BC doesn't have, that's the danger they pose. But I'll take Kiwanuka, Blackmon, and our deep linebacking core over their defense any day.
The Ireland trophy will be ours again. We will win, and both teams will be under 25 pts.
And isolated gambling issues are much better than decades of illegal recruiting practices I'm sure. College football may not pay salaries, but with ND's resources, they should challenge for the title every year.
