Top baseball game this year?
Was planning on buying a baseball game soon. What is the best one overall in your opinion? Thanks!!!
I think after this weekend you will find ESPN not quite up to par as far as realistic records of this year's teams.marino wrote:ESPN Baseball. Still playing my season with the Yankees. Two game lead over boston going in to September.Played every game.

I know you thought that last weekend too.
I'd go with ESPN. Best pitcher/batter matchup in my opinion, especially if you go with the "classic" one button swing instead of the default contact/power two button swing. Pitch speeds and movement are very good, and I found the balance between power hitting and manufacturing runs was also good. It has its share of problems, such as average managerial AI and lineups getting a little screwy in franchise mode (the CPU tends to put guys with high OBP at the top, regardless of their power or speed ratings). Best part of all is that this game does a good job of making walks an important part of the gameplay.

ESPN. Game is good out of the box, but Snate's sliders really made it come alive for me this spring and summer before I tired of baseball gaming.
Take care,

I've enjoyed ESPN quite a bit. It's the first game I've played where I was able to draw a walk every now and then. I'm horrendously impatient though, so it doesn't happen enough.
I'll have to try the classic one-button hitting, the power swing resulted in my Twins being near the top of the team HR totals.
Not the greatest game ever, I certainly played High Heat with more regularity a couple years ago. Some of the animations take too long and make for some unrealistic plays and infield hits are too easily called errors...but I enjoy playing it, and that is what matters in the end.

Lets just see what team is left standing when the playoffs are over.Yanks win today and they are in the playoffs.Parker wrote:I think after this weekend you will find ESPN not quite up to far as far as realistic records of this year's teams.marino wrote:ESPN Baseball. Prepare to be swept. But also prepare for the possibility of Boston celebrating their postseason birth onfield this weekend after a victory over your skanks, depending on what the AL West teams do. Unlike the Yanks, Boston knows how to have fun and win at the same time. On the other hand, the Yankee celebration will resemble a party at the local Elks club.marino wrote:Lets just see what team is left standing when the playoffs are over.Yanks win today and they are in the playoffs.Parker wrote:I think after this weekend you will find ESPN not quite up to far as far as realistic records of this year's teams.marino wrote:ESPN Baseball. That's the difference, the Yankees don't celebrate getting into the playoffs. That's not considered an accomplishement. They celebrate a World Series championship. Anything else there is nothing to celebrate. The old saying...act like you've been there before.Parker wrote:Prepare to be swept. And, it seems like the city of Boston is going to have to tone down their "celebration" thi syear. I find it funny how a city's idea of celebrating is to get piss drunk, turn over cars, and get arrested.
Too bad NY doesn't know how to party with any class.
And that's funny...I don't remember them getting swept last weekend. In fact, I remember someone getting their ass handed to them to the tune of 25-5 over the last two games of that series. I hope it's not too cold on Friday...Pedro might have to wrap a blanket around himself on the mound. Or maybe wear some gloves.

Playing at NY and playing in Boston are two very different things. You will not win this series with Schilling and Pedro both pitching at home.
It doesn't matter if the Yanks do win the world series, they still don't know how to have fun, because they aren't a team, just a high-priced roster pieced together by Moneybags Steinbrenner who demands that everyone has the same hair style. Boston has real team spirit which is why they enjoy playing baseball for more reasons than just making money.

ESPN Baseball
According to my profile I've played over 140 games. 110 of those games are in a Phillies' season and I've played almost every inning of every game (simmed to the end of a few blowouts). I plan on finishing the season by playing a few games here and there through the Fall/Winter.
My only problem right now is that Snate's sliders are becoming too easy for me and I NEVER thought I would say that. I started out on medium pitch speed, worked my way up to fast, and then realistic as the season progressed. My stats are fairly accurate though.
I agree with Brando that walks are a big part of the game. I walked 10 times in a game last week.

Sounds like you're already making excuses for the streak of Red Sox futility to reach 86 years this fall. "We lost, but damn we had fun doing it."Parker wrote:It doesn't matter if the Yanks do win the world series, they still don't know how to have fun, because they aren't a team, just a high-priced roster pieced together by Moneybags Steinbrenner who demands that everyone has the same hair style. This is professional baseball, not Little League. The object is to win, not participate.
The Yankees aren't a team? How does a non-team reach the playoffs for 10 consecutive years in a sport in which only four teams make it in each league?
Holy sh*t, talk about sour grapes.

Ha ha. Silly Red Sox fans. They still labor under the impression that the regular season means anything. You guys could go 25-0 against us in the regular season and all it would mean is that it would be that much funnier when you crashed and burned in the playoffs.Parker wrote:Prepare to be swept. I mean really. A three game series in Boston. Oooh, scary.
(Btw, ESPN, hands down.)
In Pedro's last 19 starts against the Yanks, the Sox are 6-13. Schill got shelled for 7 runs and the "L" in his last start against the Yanks. The odds are definitely with the Sox but to say that the Yanks definitely will not win this series seems to be a bit of a stretch.Parker wrote:Playing at NY and playing in Boston are two very different things. I find it funny when you or any Red Sox fan criticize the Yanks and yet Boston has the 2nd highest payroll by far. LOL.Parker wrote:It doesn't matter if the Yanks do win the world series, they still don't know how to have fun, because they aren't a team, just a high-priced roster pieced together by Moneybags Steinbrenner who demands that everyone has the same hair style. Exactly PK!!! Built in excuses. This is the same guy who "guaranteed" the Yankees would lose to the Red Sox last year. And we all know how that turned out. Then it was amended to say that they would not win the World Series, even though Boston had nothing to do with it. But, he "knew" it would happen. So, if the Yankees don't win this year can I say that it's fine because they had so much fun this year?pk500 wrote:Sounds like you're already making excuses for the streak of Red Sox futility to reach 86 years this fall. Parker...that was one of the stupidest things I think I have ever read. So, maybe Manny and Pedro and Schilling would be willing to give back the $15+ million each of them make back to the team. And, now they won't have a problem with all the free agents they are going to have at the end of the season since they will probably be willing to play for free. They're having so much fun...so why not?
Long live the Evil Empire!!
Yeah, I think Parker is under the impression that the Boston players only play for "the love of the game".dbdynsty25 wrote:I find it funny when you or any Red Sox fan criticize the Yanks and yet Boston has the 2nd highest payroll by far.
