Nope, just have to have the right box, for DirecTV anyway. Netflix charges a premium for 4K streaming. Of course. 11.99 currently. Or at least that's what I'm paying.Danimal wrote:Now I just need to figure out how to get 4K from my Direct TV and Netflicks. I'm sure DirectTV must charge for it they do everything else.

According to their website I can hook it up directly to my (forthcoming) TV since I have a Genie in another room but they will charge me $7.99 a month. I can't tell exactly how much 4K content they actually have that is free. It doesn't look like much.dbdynsty25 wrote:Nope, just have to have the right box, for DirecTV anyway. DirecTV has been putting on some golf tournaments and some baseball games in 4K. Supposedly the Bulls vs. Nuggets game tomorrow will be in 4K on their channel.
But their long-term plan is DirecTV Now, which will be streamed over the Internet. Eventually they won't use satellites, just have the streaming service. They said one bundle will be $35 but they're going to detail their plans on Nov. 28.

I got upgraded for Free on DTV as I have the Premiere package.....you will need a new main receiver and a 4K box to go with it. I ended up with a spare wireless Genie to go in my game room.Danimal wrote:Now I just need to figure out how to get 4K from my Direct TV and Netflicks. Netflix just shows the 4K content as soon as you log in with a 4K TV and did not ask for any additional funds.....that has been my experience....

Only 3 I have found 104-106.....would love to see some sporting events in 4K. Star Trek Beyond was spectacular in 4K.....I bought the 4K BluRay as I was not paying $10 to rent it on DTV....

Depends. If you have the multi stream package, forget what it's called, where you can watch on 4 tvs at once, it's included. If you have the base 7.99 package, you've gotta upgrade.DivotMaker wrote:Netflix just shows the 4K content as soon as you log in with a 4K TV and did not ask for any additional funds.....that has been my experience....

The thing is right now the prices on the set seem to be dropping rather quickly. Just over the past two weeks the 65" has gone from 1899, to 1699, to now 1499. If the trend continues I'm thinking around Super Bowl week the 55" will be found pretty cheap.Diablo25 wrote:I've been eyeing one up myself. Now I have to get DirecTV on the phone and get them to send me a new 4K box as the box is causing my sound to cut out for a second or so randomly. Everyting else sounds great.

Congrats on the new TV. I had that same issue with my DTV box. They replaced it with another...that had the same issue. I don't see the point just yet in paying DTV to get the 4K package. It's 3 channels with not a lot of content and they want another $8 a month. This is also the last year I pay for Sunday Ticket, I think I'v had it for 14 years but I'm done with it.

Just had them at the house and they replaced my 4K box, same issue. He is coming back this afternoon. I will mention what you said above. On a side note, he did show me how to get my Denon receiver to output sound from my TV without using pass though! He just saved me $600....although just delays the purchase for a bit as I will get a new 4K receiver, but for the time being, I am set! I tipped him $50 for helping me get this working...

Mine was a free upgrade and actually ended up with a wireless Genie going upstairs that I did not have to pay for. Agree there is not much content and the one channel is PPV only and the movies are $10 each.....Danimal wrote:I don't see the point just yet in paying DTV to get the 4K package. OK KS8000 owners, what are you settings are you using for Game Mode? Are you using Rtings settings Color Tone, White Balance, etc or just putting on Game Mode and running with it?

An informative article for those looking for a BF deal.

Damn. I was really aiming for the LG B6 model but now the input lag maybe an issue.

Re: Kicking The Tires On A New TV...Advice Needed
Been tinkering with it for a few days. I found quite a few good topics on it through Google. The interesting thing is that my PS4 Pro will not display if it's put into UHD Color on that HDMI....yet the XBox One S will. I've changed all of the settings and messed around with it, but as of yet, haven't been able to fix that. Only thing I haven't tried is switching cables, but that would be pretty odd if the PS4 Pro ships with a cable that can't do 4K HDR.Wilk5280 wrote:OK KS8000 owners, what are you settings are you using for Game Mode? In general, what I've found is to put the backlight ALL THE WAY UP (everybody agrees with this, even though it's strange to me), and contrast at about 45. Sharpness is supposed to be 0, and the color tone in almost all links about it was Warm1, or Normal if you're in a highly saturated game. White balance is always left alone, and the Color Space (I think that's what it is?) is usually Native, but sometimes people change it to Auto.
Basically---Google it, and you'll find a bunch of settings that you can tinker with (even a few Youtube videos). I'm still messing with them, but I've only had the TV a few days.
And I agree with that article posted above--the KS8000 can get almost UNCOMFORTABLY bright. A bright, sunny day on the TV feels like God just flipped the "daylight" switch on in my game room.
Re: Kicking The Tires On A New TV...Advice Needed
I took the plunge today. For the KS8000, 65' screen size. It wasn't until yesterday really after doing some research that I started swinging my vote from the LG B6 to the Samsung TV. I mean that OLED TV from LG is so damn beautiful and sharp that was worth the extra money.
Question was, was it an extra $1000 worth? After all, with the extra Dolby Vision feature, it was tech proofed for me for another 5-6 years. Right? Debatable, you may ask.
Ultimately, the fact that LG couldn't bring down the input lag even after their latest firmware, made me swing towards the KS8000. I knew the seller and I got a heck of a deal for $2500 CAD for the 65' model. But, I had to buy the extra warranty for 5 years. Gain some, give some.
Played Titanfall 2 and BF1 for a couple of rounds and I was salivating.
Tried "The Show" on the PS4 and everything was brilliant. Just beautiful. When I put a couple of 4K YouTube videos, it was equally breathtaking.
One thing I was told for those that wanted to calibrate the TV. Wait for the TV to reach about 200 hours of use, or about 2 months. By then, all the colours would have reached their peak and then you can proceed with the calibration.
As it is now everything is so brilliant for me, bright if you will. Brought the contrast down to 40 and it seemed to help.
My wife was watching her taped DWTS finale, and the Xmas decor showed all the vibrant colours to real life.
This is my Xmas gift and I am feeling very thankful. Enjoy your sets.
