We are excited to announce that the launch of Heists for GTA Online is scheduled for March 10th. We know it’s been a wait, and appreciate your patience. Heists will bring a brand new 4-player cooperative gameplay experience to GTA Online, giving players the chance to team up to pull off a string of intense, multi-part raids and robberies across Los Saontos and Blaine County. Over the next couple of weeks, we will have more information about the launch of Heists and about other new features that we will release with it.
I have not been able to find whether you can save progress in an Online Heist? That means we'd have to run all the missions (2-3 hours time I read) in one sitting.
My plan is download Tuesday, play some Wednesday to see how it works, then run a heist on Thursday 9pm ET.
Does it matter what level your character is to do a heist? Mine is still really low, like level 3 or 4. I didn't realize when I transferred my 360 character to PS4 that it would only work once. Couldn't transfer him to XB1, too.

This article only states a level requirement for the heist leader.

The heist update is supposed to be a 4.8 GB download, I tried restarting the game and switching between online and offline several times last night and tonight to get a prompt to download it and got nothing, no online heists are showing up for me.

I got the prompt for the update when I started the game yesterday. Downloaded and installed it no problem.
I'll be on, not sure if I can do heists though as I just got home and tried a couple more times to see if the update would download and nothing, did see a message that said my high end apartment has been refurbished for heists but didn't see anywhere in the menus where to start them.

I think that means you got the update. After being on GTA online for a while (30 minutes or so) you get a couple of phone calls from Lester. The second call he tells you to meet him to start a heist.
We had 4 guys last night and discovered that the first heist you get is for two players only. So we split into 2 teams. This first heist is 3 short missions and acts as a tutorial.
It felt like a mix of single player and GTA online craziness. I liked seeing how the same heist missions will play differently depending on your role.

I'd like to play the 2 player heist again. If you see me on XB1 and want to give it a try, send me a party invite.
