OK.

Got my networking stuff today for the Great Broadband Switch of ´03.

I´m using SBC-Yahoo and I desperately want to avoid installing all of the software crap like the "Yahoo Browser" etc. Anyone have any experience with this?

I´ve been combing through Broadbandreports.com, but the FAQ doesn´t have anything and the forums seem a little...advanced for this sort of questions.

Any other tips regarding DSL installation/setup are much appreciated. I´m going to start the calamity at about 10am tomorrow

Rob:
No clue. RoadRunner came pretty turn-key for me, as TimeWarner installed it for free. Sorry.

But good luck! And let us know when you get an Xbox and Xbox Live.

The Browser you can definitelt skip.

They will have a dialer, and a bunch of other "Utility" programs available. You can get around installing them, but you´d need to set up and configure yo8ur own network connections. It´ll really depend on your level of comfort with "free forming" your own network setup.

But the Browser? Skip it.

Rob, I would need to know exactly what you´re doing. Are you just hooking up 1 computer to DSL or a network of computers?

What all did you receive? A Nic card? Modem? Let me know and I might be able to help you.

So far so good. I had tips to get around the Yahoo! s/w, but I screwed them up

It sure does unload a lot of crap! I´ve uninstalled most of it now. Really was pretty painless. I´ve been trying to test the speed, but I´m having trouble. Think it´s a Java issue with my browser, though.

The next step is connecting my laptop via wireless, but that´s for this evening. It´s too nice outside to spend my day off playing with DSL LOL

FWIW, the Ameritech forums at broadbandreports have a bunch of SBC techs who are super helpful. It wasn´t their fault that I was too dumb to follow their directions (grumble)...

OK. I´m stuck. Trying to add my notebook with Wireless 802.11g to the network. Install Drivers, no problem.

But...how do I find the proper WEP Network Key to enter? I´ve played all around with the setting on my PC which is already hooked up, but I can´t find the damn thing. I feel like a doofus.

Any help?

Hello...is this thing on? How weird is it to be out of town for 3 days, log on and still see my last message at the top of the board?

I think everyone is enjoying the great outdoors this weekend...or in my case, getting over jet lag.

Rob,

I know you´ve already started the install (and probably finished) BUT, what I have done twice with SBC DSL is just called the ´800´number and had a tech walk me through configuring my settings WITHOUT all the ´Yahoo´ crap !!!

It took all of 5 minutes and I installed nothing. just connected the internet and my E-Mail settings. The techs run through this all the time. Just say you want to set up your internet and E-Mail but do not have the install disc and do not want all the ´Yahoo´ stuff.

Again I´ve done this twice and it is very straight forward. (at least with the techs who helped me)

Thanks, Spooky, but I already screwed up LOL Accidentally installed the Yahoo! junk, but I´ve gotten rid of most of it.

Even got my notebook networked via wireless now, which was a bit more work than I had anticipated. Mostly because I´m an idiot.

The only thing that I´m still stumped about is the fact that my wife´s XP profile won´t let her access the net via the DSL connection. The connection shows up in her Network Connections, but when I open up IE it just hangs and hangs. Same with the Yahoo Browser and even the 2Wire Config homepage.

Any ideas anyone?
