Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
You guys forget that the new Nexus 10 will likely be around 500 too. Assuming it's well spec'd. They don't seem to discount the big one as much as the little for some reason.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Wasn't the original priced $399 at launch?
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
LG G Pad 8.3 on sale at newegg for $249. Worth it at that price? I like the new Ipad but don't want to spend $500+ on a tablet right now. Nexus 7" seems nice too but wanted something a little bigger. It seems there are a ton of android tablets on sale now but most seem to have some glaring issues.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
HELL YES. Was just going to come post this. Like I said a couple posts back, it's one of only TWO Android tablets that's worth a damn right now. It is so damn nice. If it had LTE, I'd be all over it. I need a data connection in my tablet...so that's the only reason I don't own one. It's worth it even at $350. $250 it's a steal.Bakes wrote:LG G Pad 8.3 on sale at newegg for $249. They have them in Best Buy if you've got one close and you wanna get your hands on it first.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Nice, thanks. I'll hit up best buy on my way home from work to check it out. I know you know your tablets so I think this might be the winner.

Soooo...did you end up grabbing the Gpad 8.3?Bakes wrote:Nice, thanks. I'll hit up best buy on my way home from work to check it out. I know you know your tablets so I think this might be the winner.
Ironically, a new LG device was passed through certification this weekend, just happened to have the same internals as the 8.3. It's apparently the NEXT Nexus tablet. If that's the case, and they include the LTE modem...I am ALL over it.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Funny, I just ended up ordering one today (and one for my parents). I didn't get a chance to make it out to best buy to check it out when they were previously on sale and missed it at $249. Finally got to play around with one a few days ago and have been kicking myself for missing that price ever since. Newegg dropped the price back to $279 today and was able to get an additional 10% using masterpass. Can't wait to get it.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Awesome. It's a fantastic device and getting it for like 250-260 is an awesome deal. Let me know how you like it when you use it for a bit. Can't wait to see if that's REALLY what the next bigger Nexus tablet is patterned after. It just better have an LTE chip in it!Bakes wrote:Funny, I just ended up ordering one today (and one for my parents). LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition announced today. Damn, no LTE. Still might get one anyway...that is one AWESOME device and with stock Android, it's gonna be a little slice of heaven.
$349 list price isn't all that bad either, since that's the price of the standard one, if you don't get a badass deal like Bakes did.

Lucky you. LOL. Gonna turn off the LTE on my iPad Air and see if I can get by...if so, I'll grab one. Doubt it though. I like have Verizon LTE on my iPad along with my At&t LTE on my phone. That way I've got coverage basically everywhere.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Wife just ordered one... Merry X-Mas to me.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Argh, so the Gpad isn't available in Canada, *either* version.
Hopefully soon. I'm guessing this means no new Nexus 10.........

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
After some shipping snafus I've finally had some time to play around with the new g pad for a bit. Pretty impressed overall thus far. The screen is gorgeous and it has run everything I've thrown at it very smoothly. The size also seems perfect to me. Although I've never owned one I always felt the nexus 7 was just a bit too small.
On the negative side the speakers aren't great. The sound is a bit muffled and I don't love the speaker placement on the back. I'll use this more with headphones though and no sound issues there so I can over look that. Finally the battery life isn't the best. I haven't really done much tweaking yet so I'm hoping that can be improved somewhat. It's not horrible but it doesn't really compare to say the iPad. Any tips on improving battery life ?

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Never got my Google Play GPad.
Just like when I purchased the Nexus 4, Google cancelled my wife's order and I just told her to for get it.
She got me a nice BestBuy gift card for my troubles so I may just end up getting a Retina Mini.

Just left Best Buy, they had the N7 for $199 + a $25 Google Play card.
Couldn't pass it up.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Nothing wrong with that at all. My wife's mini has developed a nice inch wide stripe along the left side of the screen that is unresponsive to touch. It is 14 months old (so its out of warranty) so I imagine Apple will screw me over and say tough sh*t. We'll see...if it needs to be replaced, definitely going to get her an N7 w/ that deal. It's fantastic.

Damn, that's pure smoke. My cheapo instincts even might have crumbled for that deal if I didn't just drop more than $600 to drive to Cleveland yesterday with my oldest son to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and watch the Cavs-Warriors' game from the ninth row, center court.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Just left Best Buy, they had the N7 for $199 + a $25 Google Play card.

Yes and Yes. Now that they fixed the speed of the camera focus...it's the best phone out. No doubt in my mind. I've already taken about ten shots that simply cannot be captured with the HTC One without being extremely noisy. It'll essentially be an even swap as One's are going for 300+ no problem.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Makes me want to sell my HTC One and order a N5.

Hehe, you know what, just took back the N7.
Even though I love pure Android, for some reason I can't get into it on a tablet. Plus it still feels a bit small. Basically my same gripes with last years model.
I didn't get the Mini 'cause they didn't have the space gray.

LG GPad 8.3 Google Play Edition is en route to the house. Just can't wait for an LTE version. I'll tether to my phone if need be I suppose.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Just as I expected, the 8.3 GPe is just awesome. Significantly better than the skinned version. Quite a bit quicker...right on par with the Nexus 7...with more screen real estate. The perfect size for everyday use...right in between the iPad Mini and iPad Air. That's the 2013 Nexus 7 next to it...just slightly too small to read web pages comfortably on.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
If anyone is looking for a GPad 8.3...well, Newegg has the white version for $250 right now. An absolute STEAL for a ridiculously awesome tablet.

Still can't decide which I'm going to keep, the N7 or the 8.3, but definitely leaning towards the 8.3. The only reason I'd keep the N7 is it seems to be built a bit better in terms of dealing with a Toddler. The LG is a better looking and better designed product...but just seems like it's more fragile.

Yeah I saw that yesterday but some are complaining it doesn't have the snapdragon 600 chip. I'm trying to hold out for the Nexus 8.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Ummm...it does have the modified S4, which is exactly the same as the 600. So it just doesn't have it by name only.Rodster wrote:Yeah I saw that yesterday but some are complaining it doesn't have the snapdragon 600 chip. I'm trying to hold out for the Nexus 8.
About that Nexus 8...I'm pretty sure that's why they made a LG Google Play version...to cover the 8" form factor. The refreshed 10 is much more likely. I hope you're right tho as a higher spec'd 8" (even if it's only the 800 or 805 processor).
