ya get that s*** off the site. some of us have families around while browsing.

As for PSN, Dan makes a good point, even when it is up, it really didn't impress me. Like I said, it was a skeleton of XBL. If they really want people to pay $50 for this yearly, they really need to step it up. If it was like this when they had PS3 out, I'd be somewhat impressed. But for PS4, I'm expecting at least half of what XBL would offer. How can sony be 5 years behind XBL at this point of the online experience?!?!

Outside of uptime, which arguably is the most important thing...what does xbox live offer that psn doesn't? The big thing was party chat which was added to psn this year. I don't know...Xbox took a step back and psn went forward. Closer than last gen for sure.

You're probably right. I think the thing with me is I'm new to PSN. I'm so use to the ease and organization of XBL, on PSN, I'm like where the hell is everything. Does PSN have similar XBL type offerings like XBL Arcade, Demo's, Apps, etc....? But being down is really bad. They should have know they'd be flooded today ( I guess that's where the Obamacare comparison comes in). I'm on the 7 day PSN Plus trial that came with FIFA but will join PSN PLUS for a year doing the $34.99 best buy deal.

The weird thing is my 24 hours with PS4 has sort of opened my eyes to XBONE's long term vision. PS4 will be a strong gaming system in the mold of past strong gaming systems, but maybe the future is an all inclusive system that almost does everything like XBO. I'm thinking XBONE in 2 years will be that. XBO really should have waited till next year to release.

My brother sent me Ryse for Christmas, and holy crap is it a great game. The gameplay is a lot more interesting than I assumed it would be, and it is stunning to look at.

Yeah, I'm enjoying the XBO so far, but there was really not a compelling reason to jump into next gen, yet. At least between Forza, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Powerstar Golf, Microsoft has at least made sure there was plenty of good content to play. I like the multiplatform stuff, but most of that is available and would have been fine on last gen consoles.

After all the hoopla about the PS4 being the gaming centric console, how did Microsoft end up with so many more solid to great exclusive titles? And when will anyone actually notice that right now, the better gaming is on the Xbox, regardless of the Kinect and TV stuff.

But yeah, within two years, I think the XBO will be fully baked, with a UI that ready to embrace next gen. But it's a great gaming machine right now.

I'm talking purely from a UI standpoint myself and of course this is personal preference.

I haven't used Live on the XB1 enough to know what you and Terry are referring too when saying it took a step backward. In my limited experience with live and the XB1 UI I have been able to find any thing I have looked for, easily find settings, get online everyday and generally not struggled with anything outside of crappy voice commands.

On PSN there is a good chance it will not be up, or it will lock up in the middle of me doing something. I've streamed 3 movies off of PSN so far and everyone of them has dropped in and out of HD and stopped to buffer, a problem I have never had with Live and I've run test to ensure its not my connection. I still have a hard time recalling where settings are, for example I wanted to delete my Ustream setting because I accidentally hooked it up to the wrong account and that took a while to figure out.

The store interface is not intuitive either IMO. I see an add to get PSN Plus virtually in every screen even though I'm already a member. It's hard sometimes to just find simple things like where are the new rental movies or even the free PSN games. Other times those things are right in your face, there seems to be no consistency.

So it may not lack the features of Live but I'm not a fan of the UI at this point. Sony makes great hardware but as a software company they have never been great IMO.

I tend to agree with you. the launch exclusive games on XBO seem to offer more than what is out there on PS4 right now. The only thing that made me not go with XBO was all the headache with Kinect and the non gaming stuff. But I think in 2 years, they'll have all that sorted out and it should be kicking butt. Let's see what sony will do. Is the traditional gaming system model they've gone with going to survive in the next few years? Or do they need to make a leap to the next level to catch up to XBO. Funny how I just described PS4 already behind XBO in vision with all the #'s showing PS4 sold more units. But that is the now. In the future, I am thinking XBO will be the industry leader. Unless of course MS screws everything up which it may do LOL

Yeah Steam went down a few hours ago. I haven't had a problem with Live and my kids have been on it all day with Disney Infinity. PSN I've gotten online once after trying about a dozen or more times. So seems like the holy grail is performing a hell of a lot better than the ghetto shittastic PSN.

Here is the thing, I said it before. If you came to my house today and said one console has to go I would hand you my XB1 without blinking an eye. However that doesn't blind me to the fact that the system has faults and its online component is one of them IMO. PSN being down on a day where a lot of people got new consoles and needed an update is a big difference them diminished services.

I just don't get the level of defense in this thread at times.. were discussing video games not something important.

I must be doing something wrong then, because I haven't had any PSN trouble and I've been on and off the PS4 all day. I'm on right now and so are a couple of other DSP guys.

I'm back on now too, but since 8am pacific to say 2 hours ago I couldn't get on. But then again, I'm a new subscriber so maybe that has something to do with it.

Being new to PSN, does it go down a lot or is this just a fluke thing?

Yeah, it turned out that Xbox Live's limited outage was limited to FIFA 14. I have not noticed a outage all day, or yesterday.

Ok, I'm picking up my XB1 tomorrow, couple of questions as I'm too lazy to look through this massive thread. :)

1. I have FIFA 14, what ONE other game should I get? I'm thinking one of these - COD Ghosts/NBA 2k14/Battlefield 4/Forza 5? I'm really leaning COD Ghosts since my daughters are begging me to get that one.

2. Since I have DTV and Genie with DVR, do I really need to hook the XB1 up to the satellite? Not really sure I would use that feature since you can't record from it - I would like to say "food tv" though and have it change channels.. LOL

3. Do I need a recharge kit right away?

4. Can I use the same X360 Gold account with my XB1 or is that a separate charge? I plan on leaving the X360 connected as well and switching between the two.

Thank you!

1. I'd go Forza for the other game. It's outstanding, and the Drivatar stuff is worth the price of admission. I need more time with it, but right now, I'd grab Ryse if looking for an action game. But really, all of those choices are fine.

2. I ran my XB1 without TV for several days, and it was no big deal. I have it plugged back in, and it is kind of worth it just to have voice control to pause, play, and mute. It's also nice to be able to just say you want to play Forza, and it goes straight to the game. You can also snap TV while you play a game to watch sports.

The One Guide is a waste of time, at least compared to the Tivo guide I have with my DVR. You can use voice to switch channels, but how often are you actually watching live TV?

3. The batteries that came with my controller lasted about a week. After that I went with a recaharge kit.

4. XBL gold is for everything you use. I bounce between the 360 and One with zero issues. On the One, your Gold will also transfer to every account on your console. But it does not seem to transfer to them back on the 360. My wife can play online with the One, but not 360.

It's working now but the store and other services have been spotty since last night. So technically yes, I have never been off of PSN because my system showed me signed in since last night I just couldn't use any of the services until about 2 hours ago.

Has anyone tried Spartan assault on the XB1 yet? What kind of game is it.

Like Zen Pinball but since I own all those tables for the 360 there is not enough there to get me to rebuy everything. Wasn't really feeling the other pinball game, despite the actual tables represented.

34 - thank you for giving me the laugh of the day. Was at my parent's place with my parents, my kids and my inlaws - step into my dad's computer room to check out DSP and that pic loaded up - I haven't closed a browser that fast in a long time! lol

Hey Rob,

Let me recap just the last three pages of this thread;

i. Terry is on his THIRD XB1
ii. Leebo and Terry want to throw their controllers out the window because of auto-sign in problems
iii. Fanatic's PS4 crashed when he was playing FIFA
iv. Danimal's PS4 locked up 3 times and he had to physically unplug it to boot
v. Wilk's PS4 turned off on its own
vi. Danimal's XB1 disc drive is making funny sounds
vii. Leebo's XB1 fitness app crashed when he was done a workout
viii. PSN is down

Yup, PC gaming is a real headache isn't it.

;)

Love you too!
