BTW, so how do you upload the vid to Skydrive? I've saved a bunch of stuff, but haven't messed about with the editing or sharing yet.

Bought madden on a whim (damn you digital dload!!!). Really fun. Not super "next gen", def improved since last time I played (prob 2 years ago). I do like the smart glass add on. Could be more but a nice addition to the coffee table while playing. Would love to hear 'headset chatter' from the assistant coaches coming thru it as well.

fellas.
This thread has me leaning towards grabbing a PS4 first and a xb1 down the road. Can anyone speak to the online performance of the PS4? Are games running smooth? is the online interface user friendly?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I've been playing online randoms on COD and NFS. Other than EA's servers being down once soon after launch, online has been great for me in these two games.FifaInspected wrote:fellas.

Thanks Web. I've had a ps3 for a couple of years and outside of a handful of games of PES and MLB The Show i've had almost no online gaming experience on the ps3.webdanzer wrote:I've been playing online randoms on COD and NFS. Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Played some online Madden on PS4, and it was as smooth as XBL for me.
And just because that's how it's gone, last night I decided to give Powerstar Golf a try on the XBox, so my daughter and I could play a round. Here's how it went:
Turn on the xbox.
I created her XBL profile for use on the XB1.
She turned on her controller. It blinked for about 15 seconds, trying to find the box. Then turned off.
We tried to synch. It blinked a bit, then turned off.
Connected it via a mini USB cable--it allowed her to control it.
Unplugged it, lost synch and went into "random blinking guide button" mode.
Googled, saw all the notes on synching and other people having issues with controllers not connecting properly.
Rebooted the XBox, tried synching 2 or 3 more times--eventually just tossed the brand new batteries and then it worked.
Some of these things are comical, because it's like "duh...batteries will make it shut off". But it would never even sync to start with, and I haven't seen the spot where it tells me my battery power like it did on 360 yet. And while it seems simple in hindsight, there's zero clue that that's what's actually going on. It would blink forever trying to synch, it wasn't acting like the controller was out of power where it wouldn't turn on, or we'd synch and she could move stuff around for a few seconds and then it would die. It just refused to synch or connect, which made me think it was a connection issue, not a power issue.
Since the controllers themselves don't tell me who's using what or give me any indicator of what the hell's going on, I'm left fumbling around trying to figure out what the issue could be. Not to mention that controller had only been used for a couple of hours and the batteries were brand new. Considering I'm still on my first set on my primary controller, it didn't even seem like it would be the case.
Every time I fire it up, it's some sort of new frustration or issue with it. You can chalk it up to impatience or expecting too much, whatever. And I've been a software tech support rep for the past 15 years. That doesn't mean I CAN'T be an idiot, but I'm pretty familiar with diagnosing what an issue may be based on the symptoms and then isolating causes and going from there. Nothing about "controller won't sync" led me to "batteries are possibly low with no indicator whatsoever I can see" at all. Had it connected and turned off, sure.
But it just seems like the XB1 is little issue on top of little issue for me. Whether it's the interface, the kinect, the controller synch and profile issues--once I get into a game, it's fine, other than a little less impressive than I'd hoped it would be. But all the other interface and design decisions feel so half-baked and unfinished that it's incredibly frustrating every single time for me.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I had the same issue getting my second controller to sync. I got frustrated as well. Searching online I found the fix was to keep holding down the sync button until it syncs.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Tried that, too. Eventually, when the new batteries fixed it, I felt sort of silly. But then when I really started going "why didn't I think this was it?", it started getting me more irritated. Nothing it did seemed like "low battery level", and I had tried holding sync on the controller and the XB1, and all sorts of crap.
It was turning into this fun, "welcome to the world of electronics" moment for my daughter. She wasn't a fan.

My controller died after 8 days on AA batteries. I would press it on, and it would turn off. I popped them out and put in the batter pack and connected it via USB and was playing within 2 minutes. I agree, the lack of low battery signal is dumb. But it boggles my mind the trouble some people have with the simplest stuff.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Why is that a simple thing? Why isn't there a flashing light or icon on the screen or SOMETHING, like every other electronic gadget everyone has? It's not a "simple" thing when it's a ridiculous omission by Microsoft.Aristo wrote:My controller died after 8 days on AA batteries. I would press it on, and it would turn off. Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Mine died around the same, but I'd caution against condemning people who don't readily identify that problem. Both controllers from the prior gen had appropriate low battery indicators, but the One controller with the lauded $100M price tag doesn't? That's just a bad design oversight.Aristo wrote:My controller died after 8 days on AA batteries. I would press it on, and it would turn off. Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Aristo, It boggles my mind to think that you're so superior that everything is simple. Must be great to be that smart.
And again...let me rephrase that the controller had been used for about 3 hours. A few games of Madden with me when my brother was over. Battery life hadn't even entered into the equation, since I have used my controller about twenty times longer and it's still running fine. It didn't perform like it was low on batteries--like it was a "simple" thing.
I tried to explain that, but since you seem to think I'm an idiot and insinuate it in every post, I'll spell it out a bit more. Low battery usually has some sort of indication other than "it won't synch at all". I had no reason to think it was going to be a battery issue, due to the stuff I already posted. Everything it did pointed to a synch issue.
I'm very good at isolating the cause of a problem based on the symptoms. It's what I do every day for a living. The symptoms that MS chooses to give for the cause of this issue make no sense. That was my point. It's a simple thing if you just go "oh yeah, I've used my controller for 8 days, my batteries are probably dead". It's not when you've barely used it at all and it turns on for an extended amount of time and refuses to sync. It gives no indication whatsoever of that.
But hey, I'm glad you and your XBox One have zero issues. It doesn't make me a moron because there are definitely some issues with the UI and MS' decisions on what they choose to give us for information.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
The recording and DVR thing is one thing that actually worked pretty well, IMO. I did some test clip with Ryse back on release day and that uploaded and encoded on Skydrive without a problem. So it certainly has that going for it. I haven't tried using the 'Xbox, record that' function, though. It seems to record enough random stuff on its own that I haven't needed to. Every score in Madden, each boss fight in Ryse, etc.

So the XB1 controller that comes with it - you have to install batteries correct?

XB1 - can use two AAs or the play and charge (rechargeable) kit.MizzouRah wrote:So the XB1 controller that comes with it - you have to install batteries correct?

PS4 - built in rechargeable (but has pretty poor battery life at around 6-8 hours per charge)

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
After spending some time with both systems I think what it boils down to is I'm not a huge fan of the XB1 OS yet for the same reason I don't like Windows 8. It's new and it's not intended for me. The PS4 UI is basically everything I know how to do from last gen. If I compare it to say the 360 UI, the 360 is better designed IMO but the PS4 has more bells and whistles.
However I like it better because I don't have to figure s*** out. I can easily get stuff done and well with the XB1 I need to use voice commands and all sorts of other s***. I was lierally sitting in my bedroom last night having a conversation with my wife and the XB1 came on and started showing TV. Good thing neither of us talk in our sleep.
Considering myself and many others here (as well as reviewers) are probably over 20 and more than likely in our 30's and 40's we're not use to this s***. You know who likes windows 8? My kids and their friends, since they grew up on touch devices. They fly around that s***. You know who is probably going to love the new XB1, kids between 10-18. They will figure it out, they will use it and they are the target audience for this generation.
IMO MS may take a hit early on but they are the more forward thinking here. Having said all of that, I'd still rather play my PS4 now than my XB1. However that may change as games come out and the system is updated.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Yeah, the PS4 controller needs constant recharging. Way less than the 360 controllers used to have, even. I have to charge it almost every day, which sucks.
