Yup, same here as well. I have a ton of original Xbox and PS2 games I still play on occasion. All this has done for me is made me switch to PC gaming and going the Steam route. And i've found myself playing more Android and iOS games on tablets. The tablet model has the best licensing approach since most of the games are dirt cheap and it follows all of your devices.

While it's disappointing that their will be licensing limitation on the Xbox one it's not as bad as i thought it would be.
Microsoft says Xbox One titles will launch in physical and digital forms on the same day, and players can access those games on any Xbox One console through the cloud.

Players can also establish a family of up to 10 members that can explore a shared games library and play any title they choose from any console.

Microsoft also says players can resell or trade older titles -- no fees required -- at participating retailers. However, it appears there will be some limitations in sharing games. According to a post on game licensing, users can offer a one-time gift of a select title to a friend, so long as they've been on their Xbox Live friends list for at least 30 days.

The company also says loaning and renting Xbox One games "won't be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

As for online features, the Xbox One will not require a persistent connection, but will allow players to enjoy a game offline for up to 24 hours before requiring an online check. When logged into another device, Xbox One will perform hourly online check

You had to know that this was where gaming was going. Steam/App Store is the model everyone is following, and you know what, I LOVE steam. I really don't miss used PC games or having to store DVDs. And from what I've read you will be able to log into your account on any xbox and play any of the games you own (after downloading/installing it). My only concern is that we won't see as many awesome game sales on XBL as we do on Steam, but that has yet to be seen.

Sure we all knew this was coming especially when EA's online pass come to fruition. But that doesn't mean I have to accept the terms of agreement regarding the Xbox One, Diablo III. If more gamers were to say NO and FU to the game publishers then they'd think twice about doing this.

As far as Steam goes, yes it's similar but at least they offer mega sales and you can play your games on any computer as well as play offline. The other big difference regarding Steam is that there is always Brent Torrentinsky if you want a permanent copy of the game you bought. :)

I'm still thinking Sony is going to do something similar minus allowing you to play permanently offline like Steam.

Steam requires connectivity in mostly the same way that Xbox one does. They offer an offline mode but if you don't regularly connect to Steam to make sure all your games are updated then there is decent chance a game won't work in offline mode.

Maybe we lose the ability to sell our games on ebay and trade them with as many people as we want but the benefits of a Steam-like system outweighs those negatives, IMO. We may end up seeing more Steamy (HA!) sales on XBL. The Steam model works and Microsoft will likely follow their lead. Cheap digital downloads encourage a ton of impulse purchases. I can surely attest to that. There are a number of Steam games I bought on sale that I have never fired up even once.

I just hope MS will get rid of their MS points system. Now THAT is something that discourages me from purchasing games. Having to purchase the points and then purchase the game adds one more step that I'm often not willing to deal with.

I never use our friend Brent to get games. I have absolutely no need. Steam satisfy's all my PC gaming needs.

The MS points system is going away, they've said as much. As to the whole kerfuffle regarding games and what not, I don't really care if I never have to purchase a disc in-store again. Trading, I do because it's there, and it's convenient. But I don't have any issue with where they're going. Especially the VERY cool idea of letting me play a game I've purchased on any console, without the need for the disc. So if we're visiting friends and we've bought the new Kinect Sports and want to let them experience it, we don't have to take the disc. Just sign in on their console and play-THAT'S a good idea.

Honestly, if Gamestop goes out of business, it's not my problem. If trade-ins go the way of the dodo, I don't care. I've been downloading more XBLA titles recently by FAR than I have purchased discs in store, and I play more downloaded titles, because it's just more convenient. Fire it up, sit down, and play. No swapping discs. I LOVE that the games will be available for download and disc on the same day.

Of course, I love all the other bells and whistles they're putting into XBone, too.

This sums things up for me at this point. I know that many are flaming MS over the way used games are handled as well as a few other things, none of which affect me. However, I will wait for news from E3, then wait for news of how each company handles their launch. I will likely not buy either on launch day for the first time I can remember (exception being the PS3 which I did not buy till well after launch). Since Tiger Woods 15 is not coming out and it will be well after launch of both machines before it does, I have plenty of time to weigh the pros and cons of each before making a decision. Whichever console will give me the best Tiger experience is the one I will buy.

The only real misstep is the 24-hour check-in. I don't think it will affect me very much, but it is a really, really dumb. They just cut out all of the parents that buy consoles but don't allow them to be connected. They cut out taking your Xbox anywhere might not have broadband.

I lost internet for a week when AT&T bungled my upgrade from DSL to their U-Verse service. It would have been annoying to not play games. But to be honest, I didn't much anyway, since online is a big part of just about everything I play.

I think they will relax that rule. Regardless, I see nothing to persuade me to avoid the XB1.

I wish more PS4 info would leak out for some kind of comparison. I'm seeing too many people 'absolutely buying' or 'not buying' Xbox One without even knowing anything about the 'other console'.

I think the difficult part for stirring up the public about these requirements is that they affect a lot of people differently. My XBox is online all the time now. I don't buy used games. I do sell some, but with packaging being minimized and online delivery an option, that may be moot for me anyway. That also applies to lending games, too. I'm way less put off by these issues than the fact that the industry has turned many of us into QA testers who pay $60 for the privilege of finding bugs in retail games.

Gaming is just moving to the same model as other media, where your "ownership" is somewhere between a movie ticket and a DVD. The only real way to protest is a boycott, but when you like playing games, it takes a lot to push you off them completely.

I game in my living room on a smaller secondary TV. I want the next system to allow me to keep doing the same.

I'm with you.. I read all this griping, but those same people will be buying one when it comes out. (like myself)

Seriously though.. at this point in time, I'm getting an XB1.. not on release day or anything, but as soon as I see some games of interest I know I'll head down to Best Buy. NCAA Football and NHL are all releasing on the X360 so I'm good for quite some time. I still have some games I haven't even played yet, damn you Steam!!!

What are games going to sell for on the next gen?

And will current gen games still retail at $60 or will they be lowered when next gen are out?

I'm still in the camp of a likely buy, but ultimately the decision will be on the available titles rather than the licensing model.

By and large, the most impact might be to my occasional used game purchases from Gamefly. I typically travel about a week a year with the Xbox; that may or may not be an issue depending on broadband access, but a minor one at that.

I don't PC game much, although I have a Steam account for a couple of downloads for my son... I'm fine with the model, excepting the fact that (as has been mentioned) I don't expect the big time sales on XBL that you can get on Steam.

Xbox One and PlayStation 4: Bad Weather Ahead?

The conventional wisdom appears to be that Xbone and PS4 won't suffer the same poor sales the WiiU has. The assumption is that WiiU isn't a true next-gen console, doesn't have the power to make games that look much better than the current gen, which is why it hasn't sold well.

Xbone and PS4 will have more power (though not for anyone who's been playing PC games) but a higher price as well.

But what if the problem with the WiiU isn't the lack of power but the pricing, especially the $50-60 games? Xbone and PS4 will cost more than the WiiU and also have $60 games, with MS confirming restrictions on used games, making it effectively more expensive to buy games.

You can spend dozens of hours on $60 worth of mobile games. Most of these won't offer the "deep" gaming experiences of console games but there may be enough people who trade off bang for the buck or "good enough" mobile games to negatively impact sales of next-gen consoles and games.

There's no doubt this generation will be interesting. The console industry has been on it's heels for a while and only time will tell how the new landscape of gaming options (mobile / handheld) treats the new consoles.
Wii-U was doomed from the start in my opinion. I'm assuming PS4 and XBOXDone will create a big stir and will move a large number of units.

Personally i'm not liking the track MS is on. They are seeking too much control with the online issue and "rights" of games. Sony appears to be focusing on a pure gaming machine, which appeals more to me at this point.

Watching MS E3 live stream now.

New 360 design is now available. Looks a little smaller, more square, like Xbox One
World of Tanks this summer. Looks good!

Pete I'm also sitting at home watching! Super nerd time!

If Forza can really deliver on this "drivatar" business, they are definitely on to something. It could be an amazingly cool step forward. Reminds me of old 2K football's attempt with their "VIP" or whatever it was called.

Well I found that presentation suitably impressive. Almost the most surprising thing to me was with that community development woman, showing the smart glass integration with the Roman game, how instantaneously the thing switched right into the Killer Insticnt match. And then right into the video editing, so quick and simple with easy tools. And right back. And to have online games observable? How long have we waited for that kind of thing in our sports game leagues?

Lots of pretty cool looking games. Very interesting to see so much XBL-type stuff. Who knows if these games will truly deliver, but they all looked very good in that controlled environment. They clearly knew what they were doing saving TitanFall for last. That game looks really fun. It may be too chaotic and insane for these old reflexes, but it sure looks cool.

Quite a few exclusives shown. Project Sparq, where you create your own game worlds, looked interesting.

Still leaning towards a buy for the holidays. Looking forward to more PS4 facts to decide. Wish there was some more Steam Box news, as that could be an alternative to the next gen consoles.

$500 bucks...suck a d*ck MS...and Sony if they follow suit. I'm definitely going to be console monogamous at that price and only one console has The Show. Decision is pretty simple.

It'll be one or the other for me as well, at least initially. I'm sure I'll have both eventually, but not for a couple years. 500 dollars, an added controller, a couple games.....that'll be pushing close to $700.

My son has gotten in to Minecraft lately, so the pull to the Xbox One is fairly strong. If EA announces a baseball game, that could also help my decision making, although I'd imagine it'd release on the PS4 as well.

More than likely, I'm leaning towards the PS4 for The Show. I joined DSP because I am first and foremost a sports gamer, and no sports game has ever impressed me as much as The Show (close second being NFL 2K5 and the NBA 2K series). I own both consoles, and The Show has been a system seller for me, along with my preference for the Sony exclusive titles (namely Uncharted).

Looking forward to the EA Sports press conference this afternoon.
