The humidity was the culprit more than the heat.

It sounds crazy, but the ice probably will be better in Staples Center than in Newark, especially since the Lakers and Clippers no longer are using the building this season. The constant changeovers from basketball to hockey can wreak havoc on the ice.

Tim Thomas's days in BOS are probably numbered as he wants to take a year hiatus from the game. With his age, if he does take the leave, it will be hard to come back no matter in which city he plays for.

It sucks not having hockey tonight. Waited for a long time for the finals to start, now they take a long break between games 1 and 2 when there is no travel needed.

A strong start by the Devils but they still can't solve Quick. Doughty just waltzed in alone with the difference in the 1st.

When you have such a confident goalie in Jonathan Quick and the most lethal Devil guys choosing to pass instead of pulling the trigger, you might as well bring on the broom in LA. Unbelievable and unreal road record.

Like Gary Neville said in the champions league about Chelsea "sometimes your name is just on the cup " "its in the stars"

The stats show an even game but Kings have been out played for the most part. Kings where good in both OT's so i guess thats what really matters.

Anyway :D  :D  :D  Suweet!!!

The Kings are certainly a team of destiny. Heck, they are not even winning the important stat categories a lot of nights, but are winning the games. Quick has to be the Conn Smythe winner this year. It must be demoralizing to play against that guy.

Nice hustle by Kopy over Parise creating the Kings' 2nd goal. Unless the Devils convert on their PP chances, this game is all but over.

Im sorry you lot dont have a vested interest in this game but 24 years of frustration is coming out in this game for me.

Thanks Pk for Stolly, i know we talked about him like 3 years ago but hes back at that same level lately. Huge.

Kopitar is the MAN just unbelievable at both ends.

See you at the end , lets hope im as happy and drunk.

Credit goes to Sutter for bringing the best in guys like Kopitar and Doughty. For the longest time Kopy was just all offense but right now the way he's been playing since the coach change he's been an excellent 2 way player. Sutter also brought the maturity that Drew lacked in his game and although he still showed flashes of childishness when a call goes against him, he's been rock solid since the departure of J. Johnson. Quick has been a rock all year long, adding veterans like Richards and Carter took a lot of pressure from Kopitar where he felt he had to be the man every night the Kings played. And youngster like Nolan and Martinez have this team ready for a few more years to come.

I'm glad to see Stollie on the verge of a ring. He's no longer an Oiler, but he's still my favorite player in the NHL.

I'm also stoked to see longtime Kings' fans like Jimmy and LAKing see their team hoist the mug in a few days. I've seen it five times with the Oil, and it's a MAGNIFICENT feeling.

So it's a new Ice Age in Southern California -- how trendy! And how fake.

The over-under on the emptying of the Kings' bandwagon is within seven days after Dustin Brown hoists the Stanley Cup. Take the under -- it's the smart bet.

Well Blues fans, at least we can say we lost to the Stanley Cup Champions when all is said and done.. probably Wednesday.

Man, I thought the Devils would have something for the Kings. Good thing I put no money on this series. I'd be crying into a Sierra Nevada right now.

All hail the Kings. What a fantastic job, especially for a No. 8 seed!

I don't see much of the other conference much, but LA has been on some ride. All hail to the 8th seed. 8O

Dunno 10's to me Kopy has always been a brilliant 2 way player so much so is why no one around the league really notices and wonders what all the fuss is about, Steve Yzerman anyone.

Mizz, I wanted to believe you but im a Kings fan to many years under the belt to get over confident, even now im not convinced but trust me i know something is different , something is happening and yes PK when all is said and done it will be me and LA watching the opening game of the 2013 season thats for sure.

WOOOOOOOOOH f*** YEAH!!!!!

 watching the interviews, Sutters a Dick  But i dont blame him the questions are hideous.

Kopi has been a great two way center for the past 3 years, you just weren't paying attention ;-). Murray was the one who brought him up to that level. Sutter gets credit for bringing out more passion and intensity from every player for every game. That's why this team is one win away from the cup and I'm about 35 hours from streaking down Figueroa naked.

Nothing like a good mid-week Los Angeles riot. We know how to do it big in LA, but something tells me there aren't going to be burning police cars and looting like every other cold weather NHL city. We'll just get King streaking.

I guess I was being overly generous to NJ by saying the Kings would win it in 5 or 6. NJ looked completely demoralized by the end of game 3. Seeing such a low seed win the Cup shows just how much parity there is in the NHL now and how important it is to get hot toward the end of the season. LA are as deserving as any team in recent memory. They have dismantled some very good teams and are taking care of business in the Cup finals. I said last year and this year that the Kings are a team I enjoy watching even though they are a rival of the Sharks, so it's good to see Eastern Conf. folks getting a chance to see how much fun LA is to watch. If they keep their core players and Quick is back on his game next year then I think they have a great chance of making it back to the finals given their style of play and combination of skill and grit.

Free agency and a salary cap eventually will take a toll on the Kings, as it does every Stanley Cup champion team with young, good players. The question is when the shedding of key players -- or effective, grinding veterans seeking one last, fat contract -- begins. I'm not familiar with the contract status of the Kings' top players.

They're set up pretty well when it comes to key players:

UFA year:
Richards 2020
Carter 2022
Doughty 2019
Kopitar 2016
Brown 2014

Quick will become an UFA in 2013, so they will definitely be needing to sign him, but goalies do not usually make enormous amounts, so they should be able to get him back. They are sitting pretty for next year at least, and possibly well beyond.
