Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I think it was a par 4, because the shot I was trying to hit was from fairly short--inside 80 yards and I let up just a bit to avoid clobbering it, then ended up way short and in the drink instead. I do know the one you were talking about though, because I had the swirlies on that too.

But I had about a 14 MPH wind at all times. On one hole it was actually swirling in circles, and I ended up knocking a pitch into the water because I thought it would gust and it turned on me and killed the distance.
But if the real thing has 12 to 16MPH winds, then yeah--it's like that.
That was a par 3 hole on the back 9 correct?? There is one par 3 hole that I have played now 3-4 times and every time it has that swirly wind.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
wind always swirls on 12 for me in the game too
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I just played the daily at a +1, but I guess I was disconnected from the EA Servers (not XBL). Upon completion of the round I got an error stating the maximum attempts have been used, unable to post score.
Bummed as I can't play it again to post a score.

Nothing like triple-bogeying your starting hole in the 2nd round, and triple-putting most shots.
I really have trouble getting a feel for the putting. Sometimes I'll drain them right next to the hole, but the vast majority of my shots are taken on the greens and missing. I can chip it to within a few feet most of the time, and my medium iron work is good--I just can't putt for sh*t.
EDIT--And just now, I drop a shot just past the water hazard onto the fringe on 12. It puts me back behind the river again. WTF?!?!?
Some of these things are so infuriating. I end up shooting a 12 on a hole that I probably would have hit a 4 or a 5 on because of weird lies and bug replacements of my ball

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
The wind swirling on 12 is realistic. If you watch the Masters you'll see pros take forever trying to figure out that wind. I bet you'll see Tiger step off a shot at least 75 times this weekend trying to catch it at the right time.
I hit one short, caught a gust and had a 6in birdie. Lucky because I would have been in the water as it was straight at the pin with Sunday's pin locations. All this is pretty realistic. Still the green is a lot harder to hit than Tiger makes it out to be.
And the areas like the back of a right pin isn't as deadly as at the real hole so you have a lot more room to play with. If you want to play it safe with a right Sunday pin, aim right over the bunker. Don't know if playing the Masters like the real Master will pay off but there are tricks.
On 11, it's unrealistic how easy it is as the left Sunday pin should again be deadly. It's a long iron into a tough green. If you can aim at the middle of the green and draw it in you should be able to roll it near the pin.
On 12 see above...
On 13, DON'T AIM AT THE HOLE on your 2nd shot. Aim at the middle of the green and try to catch the back part of the green's slop. You'll have a nice putt for eagle.
On 16, I've not found that the slope works just as effectively as the real green BUT the trick here is to catch the slope that is on the same line as the right part of the pond. Set your distance for a several yards behind the pin in line with the right edge of the pond. If you catch it right it will roll down near the pin. Don't hit it long as that putt is all kinds of stupid.
Video game Masters can be easy because you can hit perfect shots so the course is set-up to reward you greatly. This is the way it's meant to be. Problem is no real golfer is as good as you can be in Tiger so shots that are feet off are also punished greatly.
But do this tricks and you'll see the back 9 of Augusta is really fun to go low.

Wow, I melted the f*ck down on the back. Hit in the water on three consecutive holes 11-12-13 to go from like +3 to +11. Awesome. Was doing okay from 14-16 and then melted down again on 18. A smooth +15 to finish round 1. Sweet.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
There are going to be a lot of high scores on our Masters. The tournament conditions are brutal with the ball running around (and often off) the green. To be in good position to putt for a birdie, the landing areas of the green are very small on most holes.

I hope to play my first round in a bit after some vacation planning chores are done.
But did i read correctly.... can you play the second round right away? Or do you have to wait until tomorrow?
Would be kinda screwy for the weather if you could do two rounds at once, with the second round being in advance, no?

You can play all of the rounds at one time if you want. Near as I can tell. I only did round 1 and 2 so far.

DIVOT your 13 on the club daily was a great score. I had you in my sights but my birdie putt on 17 I hit to firm and it went off the back of the cup. I eagled 18 to get to -12. Hell of a round man!

Thanks Orthostud! I was -9 after number 10, but I could only manage another birdie the rest of the way, but did manage an eagle on 18. Minus 12 is a damn good score also!orthostud23 wrote:DIVOT your 13 on the club daily was a great score. Soooo............ just like real golf, if my brain says "go for it"...... i shouldn't!
Humming along in the Masters, think i'm hovering around E, or +1. Then I get to hole 15, the par 5. Nice drive. Now, this is where I screw up.
I think, gee it's a 30 foot drop, over the pond. my 3 wood can jusssttt carry the pond, but with that drop in elevation I should do it easily! Well....... my shot clips the far bank, then rolls back into the pond.
hit from the drop zone, try to flop one on the green....... splash.
Try to flop another one, more power.... just enough extra power to roll one back into the pond.
Finally get on the green, screw up my putts, and take the max shots. Which is what, double par on this? I dunno.
Just to prove the golf gods are cruel, even virtually, i step up on the next hole and hit it to 2 feet and get a birdie.
Argh.
I don't even remember what I have... +10 maybe? I think i'm in 5th place for now!

+10 for the first round. Nothing catastrophic, just some frustrating 3 and 4 putts.
Those greens are nuts.... Sure hope it gets easier once I get my golfers stats out of the 40's....

This game can be truly maddening.
I completely stunk at Augusta with my CAG in career mode, finishing near dead last. Wanting to play a club tourney but sick of the punishment I was absorbing around the azaleas, I decided to do the daily, since I noticed several low scores, and figured the course would be more forgiving.
Well, it was...the only problem for me is it took me the whole damn front 9 to re-adjust from the speedy greens at Augusta. Shot +3 out. Thankfully I had a decent run back in, but still only finished 7 out of 11, and felt awful about my performance.
I didn't want to end my night like that, though, so against all better judgment I decided to start the masters. Played my best round yet at that place, ending up with a -4.
The kicker, of course, is that I was -6 on 18, and had another choke on my way to the clubhouse...

-4 is a nice score Web.....and I know how you feel about stinking it up in one round and playing lights out in another. And those greens at AN are really fast. Sunday pins and conditions should be interesting....
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
The big range of scores you could end up with every round makes it frustrating, but is maybe the best thing about this game IMO. Looking ahead to the DSP tour, you'll obviously have the high quality guys at the top each round, but there will be a big pack of guys who could finish anywhere from 3rd to 20th any given tournament. That feels real.

+4 in round 1 of The Masters. Couldn't putt to save my ass. Bogeyed 1, doubled 9 & 11. Just ugly

A few more questions for you guys...
Out of curiosity, what "in flight" ball camera do most of you use?
What difficulty settings (especially swing) are being used for the tourneys (and in general)?
Since I'm unable to join the DSP club, what is the most fun, popular online mode for you guys outside of the DSP club?
It's been 4 years or so since I've played a TW game so all of the options and modes are a bit overwhelming for me right off the bat.

Default camera.
Tournament Difficulty.
I haven't played online other than Country Club tourneys lol
I hadn't played in 2 years, and it shows. I'm almost always at the bottom of the leaderboard in the tournaments, but I get a little better each time. Just start on the tourney difficulty and stay there--don't try and jump back and forth or you'll be screwed.

I also just picked this up yesterday and would like to be added to the waiting list for the DSP club. And thanks for the swing tips last night Teal. I was finally able to get a reasonable handle on the new swing mechanics and start enjoying the game.
