AGREED. With all of the time and licensing 2K has had to build a franchise they have fallen horribly short in my opinion. Too many thing are less than stellar in the series and there needs to be new blood on the genre. I would love to see EA announce MVP 13 next year.

I just had a great game vs the Marlins, lots of hits by both teams.. lost 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th.. default AS.

The thing that irks me though it that the Marlins had bases loaded, two outs in the bottom of the 7th and they leave their relief pitcher in to hit. No way that ever happens in a RL baseball game. Score was tied 4-4 and he had pitched two innings already. It was bad enough he was a lefty and pitched that long - it was Randy Choate btw, who I believe is more of a setup guy.

In fact, they left the starter in to hit earlier too on a scoring opportunity and he had given up 14 hits at that point.

I really hope that can be patched, although I'm not holding my breath.. I don't remember that happening in the demo, the AI seemed pretty good with replacing pitchers, pinch running, pinch hitting, etc.. I'm not sure I've even seen a pinch hitter in a full game yet with the retail copy.

Two more games where the CPU AI just doesn't pull a pitcher at the proper time, times that no manager would say, "Hey, I know we are down 3-2 in the top of the 9th, but give the pitcher another at bat to see if he can get a rally started".

Has anyone seen a pinch hitter by the CPU?

This one might get shelved until a patch is released and that's too bad, I prefer pitching, hitting and the actual throwing mechanic with fielders over The Show.

A few years ago I remember a game having this same issue. Not sure which one it was.

What I would do as a workaround is once I saw that the CPU was not going to pinch hit I would pause the game, switch the controller to the other team to take control of them and then make the substitution. You may have to take one pitch as the other team but then you can switch it back.

I know you do not want to do this and it is a pain, but better than having the pitcher hit.

I've run into that issue. My answer is to just switch sides, insert a PH. It was a problem last year, too, so I am not expecting a patch to resolve this.

They said they improved that, but obviously not. To be honest, it affected about 10% of my games, at most. I wish there was a set of sliders for manager AI that would include stuff lik how often they go for a PH or how quick of a hook he has.

Hell they should just import the AI diamond League Baseball went with. It was always strong in this area.

Yeah, the show has that slider.

I didn't see it happen last night.. and had a great game vs Kansas City. I can't stress enough how great pitching is in this game, I walked 4 with Wainwright.

I just find myself playing this game a tad more than the show right now.. I just feel more involved in the gameplay.

Is there anything at all "new" about 2K12 or is it the same game as last year with new rosters?

Glad I bought both games...

Started up a franchise tonight with mkharsh33's rosters dated 3/20 - nicely done, btw

Played one spring training game and then become engrossed into getting my team ready for opening day. Franchise looks to be well done and easy to navigate, I was even offered a couple of thought inducing trades, I declined both.. but I put some thought into them.

In my spring training game, I saw some really nice stat overlays and the commentary really expanded more so than say, an exhibition game. I had 13 hits though, more than 5-6 games with MLB 12. :) Hit variation is so much improved over previous versions.

It's about to storm here, so I'll get at least my first game in tomorrow. At this point, I've been going back and forth between games.. and there is something about this game that really makes me feel like I control the everything on the field.

Lost 4-0 to the Marlins.. Josh Johnson pitched a complete game, allowed 7 hits - but I only struck out 4 times! ;)

I'm 4-11 in my Cardinals franchise. I've had to move my sliders as they have made pitching tougher this year. I was getting shelled early on.

But Holliday already have 5 HR's and is hitting over .400. Overall, hitting feels perfect. I'm actually using classic, because the game is just tuned to do a good job of selecting power, contact, and defensive swings so well. It just produces very realistic results and more hit variety. I have Freese and furcal struggling big time, while holiday and Berkman are thriving. For some reason, Tyler Green has been good for me, too.

In my last two games I won 5-4, with 4 HR's, including a ninth inning shot by Allen Craig, and then 3-1 in a game with no HR's. In the second game, Westbrook was over 80 pitches in the 6th, and over 100 in the seventh when I had to get him out, despite pitching well.

One thing I have noticed is that I can usually score runs in the first two innings, but then get shut down. The game really picks up on tendencies. One of mine is swinging at outside pitches, and i swear the CPU started screwing with me.

I switched from All-star default sliders to BigFnJoes Legend sliders and on my first game with them I had a no-hitter with Beckett. Played the 2nd game fo the series (Orioles) and they were obviously very unhappy about the no-no because they chased Bucholz out of the game in the 4th inning. He gave up 9 runs on 12 hits. Needles to say there was no winning that game.

Loving the game so far. Really happy with the improvements made from last years version.

I'm 0-3 so far with the Cardinals. I use default AS and love the plain ol "batting" camera. I'm using analog to hit as it just feels right to me right now. Had games of 0-4, 4-5, and just recently, 6-9. I only have 1 HR so far, Berkman with a bomb to RF.

My only gripe right now is the OF's and how they run so slow and get such a crappy jump on the ball - the CPU has no problems. I also think the commentary is a bit too repetitive, but maybe that's because it's so early in the season.. I'm tired of hearing about 2011 league leaders. :)

It's definitely the best version of MLB 2k, imho.

My first "W" of the season! We win 3-2 over the final game vs the Brewers. We took a 3-0 lead on a 2 run HR by Holliday (who's hitting .500 through 4 games with 5 RBI) and a HR by Freese. We held on after Milwaukee scored 2 in the 5th and I had to pull Lohse who was pitching a gem up until that point - typical Lohse if you ask me. Motte picks up the save and we head to Cincy.

The only thing I have changed from AS defaults are upping the base running player speed +5 to 45, other than that, it plays pretty well out of the box on that level for me.

I haven't made any slider adjustments yet, probably won't since like you say it plays pretty well out of the box.

Upping the base running speed one notch to 45 is perfect, imho. No more outs when the SS dives and the batter has decent speed. I also saw a triple by Phillips and Greene scoring from 2B on a long single. Double plays are tough and you have to hit green on the meter with speedy runners.

I'm 1-4 now with a lost against the Reds.. Westbrook was touched up for 5 in the first inning and we lose 8-3, Jay Bruce hit 2 HRs. I now like using the batter camera with the pitch zoom on, saw the pitches really well.

I'm back to batter2, beat the Reds in game 2 of the series, 4-2. Carpenter was pitching a gem and then injured his hip in the 6th inning. He's out for at least 15 days. So I traded Westbrook and his $13.6 million contract to the Yankees for a AAA RP. Then I signed Roy Oswalt to a 1 YR - $5.40 million deal and took a chance on Rich Harden, at least until Carpenter comes back. Oswalt will make his Cardinals debut vs the Cubs at home in the next series.

Holliday is a beast, hitting his 2nd HR of the season and driving in two more runs. Motte also has been perfect with 2 saves on the young season.

I'm using a tweaked version of mkharsh's sliders from OS. Things like pitch control at 15 really helps bring the game alive. You can find an OF speed that will improve that, too.

Last night I came within 1 out of a no-hitter with Wainright over the Pirates. I just got locked on, but still walked two batters. The first one I wiped out in a double play. But the second one forced me to pitch to the leadoff hitter a fourth time to close out the game.

I think the game might have screwed me for getting cute. With two outs and no-hitter on the line, I was really starting to have issues, as Wainright was well over 120 pitches by that point. So I did a mound visit to restore some stamina. McCutchen proceeded to hit a ball up the middle that Furcal dove and made a play on, but McCutchen beat the throw for an infield hit. The commentators even mentioned that it was odd and prob ably a bad idea to have mound visit at this point in the game.

The next game I won with Carp 6-2, but he he battled though multiple baserunners often, and only pitched six innings of shutout ball. McClellen hosed me in the 9th, and I finally had to bring Motte in with two men on and two runs in already, and only one out. But two K's later Motte got the save since the tying run was on deck.

The Pirates are pretty brutal, so I will wait to adjust sliders until playing some better hitting teams. I still have the worst team ERA in the majors.

Oh, and Holliday is a beast in my franchise, too. After 17 games he has 6 HR's and is hitting .423. Unfortunately Freese is just brutally awful so far. Furcal, Freeze, and Molina are all batting under .200.

I dropped User Pitch Control to 10 and CPU Strike Zone Tendency to 40, and it came off as nearly perfect. I had gone through stats, and my team was among the lowest in giving and taking walks. It was within the margin of error, but my team's K/BB ratio was too good for as high as my ERA was.

Despite only dropping the Strike Zone Tendency, the Cardinals went from losing 2-1 in the fist game to a 10 run explosion in the next.

I'll post my full sliders later. But I'm still in tweak mode.

I walked 4 last night.. so for now, I'm not really touching anything. I might turn down OF speed a notch as it seems like most fly balls are being run down.. need more games though.

Thats why I hold off on messing with sliders for as long as possible. So many things can happen in a baseball game you really need to wait for a trend to develop before changing things.
