Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12

I don't mind Marchand but it's funny what a difference a year makes. Marchand made that same exact hit last year in the finals on Sedin and nothing came out of it but this year it's a 5 game suspension.

C'mon man...the Canucks are the king of low life cheap shot players! How can you say that about Marchand when Alex Burrows is right in your backyard?10spro wrote:He's a low life punk, what a cheap shot. Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
One disciplinary trend that continues under Shanahan remains troubling: The amount of injury sustained during an illegal act.
Marchand's intent, action and past history of infractions should be the ONLY criteria. Salo's injury should be irrelevant. Marchand's hit would be less illegal and less punishable if Salo wasn't hurt? That's preposterous. Do people convicted of larceny receive a lesser sentence because they stole an iPod instead of a big-screen TV?
By using injury as a criteria, Shanny and the NHL are all but telling players cheap shots will be tolerated more if an injury doesn't occur.

The Sedin play was after the whistle, where Sedin sought contact with Marchand. Different rules apply to post-whistle scrums, though dumping a guy like that is still against most "codes" of hockey.tjung0831 wrote:I don't mind Marchand but it's funny what a difference a year makes. When a guy is trying to simply play the puck, what Marchand did to Salo is dangerous and opportunistic, and indefensible.

First of all, in many cases, yes, the value of goods stolen does mandate a different sentence.pk500 wrote:One disciplinary trend that continues under Shanahan remains troubling: The amount of injury sustained during an illegal act.

Second, I agree with you in general. I don't think injury should sustained should be a factor, though in defense of the Shanahan regime they have been forthright all season that they will consider injury sustained (or lack thereof) in suspensions.

Dude, in this game there's dirty players everywhere. Burrows has a dirty tag attached to him because of his past but he's clean up his game a lot. Sure, he likes chewing on Bergeron's thumb but he doesn't ran around like a rat like Marchand. He'll get into a fight if he has to even though he'll get beaten up.tjung0831 wrote:C'mon man...the Canucks are the king of low life cheap shot players! Marchand is more than willing to handle things for himself. He doesn't back down from anybody. Even when he threw that hit on Sedin last year in the final he came up swinging and ready to go.10spro wrote:Dude, in this game there's dirty players everywhere. Yeah, I don't know how you can accuse Marchand of running around. Every time I've seen him he's more than willing to drop the gloves and man up. I agree, however, that he's a certifiable pest and plays on the edge. If he doesn't adjust his game he will be seeing longer and longer suspensions. The thing is he actually has good skill and can be an effective player without his antics, like several other players I can think of that are hated by most NHL fans. Marchand should probably keep his head up from here on out because he has become one of the most hated players in the league.tjung0831 wrote:

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
WTF is up with the schedule makers? I'm gearing up for the Sharks/Wild game tonight and noticed that Vancouver and several other teams have played 5 more games than the Sharks, and Vancouver plays tonight as well. Is it really that hard to schedule so that teams can stay within a couple of games played of each other? 5 games is on average about 2 weeks worth of games that San Jose is behind several teams.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
VAN has been dog tired for awhile. Obviously the emotional win over the weekend took a lot from them as they put a stinker yesterday in FLO and Ia m not sure they can pull it off tonight either. Including the BOS game it was like their 5th game in 8 nights plus all the traveling and you wonder indeed who makes the schedule. But if a team is good enough like SJ, they'll make up for the points eventually.toonarmy wrote:WTF is up with the schedule makers? Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Yeah, I have no issue with the points that a team will get since everyone has to play the same amount of games. It just seems stupid to have that big of a game differential between teams. The NBA, MLB, MLS, BPL, and NFL do not have this issue with scheduling. Just a minor annoyance and doesn't make sense.10spro wrote:VAN has been dog tired for awhile. How about those Blues!!!
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Playing real well, top 4 team in the league right now and a nice big showdown at home tomorrow night agains the CASUCKS! If the ownership situation gets resolved and we can add some salary, a move could really put us over the top. We have some amazing depth right now and that's with Steen, McDonald, Russell and Huskins all still out although they say Steen might play tomorrow night now. Still need more from Berglund though...he's got to step it up or we have to find another #2 center, perhaps a a Berglund plus deal for Ryan Getzlaf who's said to be available. We shall see...MizzouRah wrote:How about those Blues!!!

Freaky cut to Taylor Hall as his team was warming up against the CBJ. Three Oils got tangled together with Smid's skates landing near Hall's eyes as he needed 30+ stitches to close his gash. Needless to say, he did not play.

A metaphor for another lost season, sadly.10spro wrote:Freaky cut to Taylor Hall as his team was warming up against the CBJ. Three Oils got tangled together with Smid's skates landing near Hall's eyes as he needed 30+ stitches to close his gash. Needless to say, he did not play.
Renney probably will be the casualty of this season, but owner Katz MUST wake up in the spring and fire both Lowe and Tambellini. They have been in "rebuilding mode" since Pronger left, and the foundation of the house hasn't even been poured.
Both are terrible evaluators and managers of talent. A chimpanzee could have selected Hall and Nugent-Hopkins as No. 1 picks, but very few of the Oilers' other picks and deals have panned out in the last five years. This is a team stuck in neutral in a league with a salary cap designed to ensure parity and a quick return to competitiveness.
If Lowe and Tambi don't trade Hemsky at the deadline this year, I think I'll spontaneously combust.
One more observation: Is it any coincidence that Scott Howson, a "wonderboy" trained at the feet of Lowe in Edmonton, has been a bust as GM in Columbus?

They seemed to be stockpiling young forwards with guys like Eberle, Paajarvi and Omark. Not too high on them right now?pk500 wrote:A metaphor for another lost season, sadly.10spro wrote:Freaky cut to Taylor Hall as his team was warming up against the CBJ. I don't know if they have anything in the way of defensemen or goalies.

Plus all of these young forwards are smurfs, slick skill guys. Sorry to sound like Don Cherry, but this team has no young grit. Eberle, Gagner, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins and Omark each weigh less than 195 pounds. Paajarvi weighs 205, but he's a p*ssy.
Lowe and Tambi draft the same kind of forward EVERY F*CKING YEAR. They never pick talented big kids with good hands and an attitude. Who is the Oilers' Scott Hartnell? Who is the Oilers' Milan Lucic? Who is the Oilers' Ryan Kesler or Alex Burrows? Who is the Oilers' Dustin Brown?
Plus no NHL GM should show his face in public after signing and grooming a goaltending tandem consisting of an injury-prone, overpaid 39-year-old and a guy who might be a solid AHL player.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Another no show factor for Canucks last night at home, as the hot Kings keep on rolling. Sunday night was bad enough after the second worst team in ANA double them 4-2, one could say that they've been playing a lot of games lately but to stink up the joint for the second time in a row in front of your home crowd for this experienced bunch is not an excuse anymore.
If it wasn't for Luongo (who stole the point for VAN), this game would have been over by the 10 minutes mark of the first period. We are talking about the Kings' offense here who are masters at winning one goal games, yet they should have been up easily by 5 at the end of 20 minutes.
At the back end, they clearly miss Sami Salo, still out with a concussion as the D just seems to be in disarray since the Finn has been out of the lineup. And the chances of him being 100% healthy when he returns for a betting man in Vegas, are as good as the Oils making a run for the playoffs this season.
With trade deadline, management will need to look for another D-man as the current lineup are giving more 2 on 1's and 3 on 2's as if the festive season was still on.
