Red Faction: Guerilla

You might as well stop reading and go get this now. Your sledgehammer awaits.

Your best bet is to take out a Gamefly account. For someone who is just getting back in to console game, I'm sure it's quite
overwhelming. There are so many quality games to choose from. Pick a game, play it for a few weeks and send it back, and
get a new one.

Thanks, but Gamefly is too much scratch per month for my tastes. Plus I don't want to provide even more reasons for my sons to put the gaming needle in their arm.

Demos offered on XBL are a godsend, though. So is the advice from you cats.

Man, what the hell did Bizarre Creations do to PGR 4? I remember you could slide the hell out of cars with precision and a wonderful sense of weight and grip in Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast and the first two PGR's on the Xbox, all created by Bizarre.

But PGR 4 feels floaty as hell, with poor steering precision and poor braking modulation. Man, I had no fun playing that game tonight, which stuns me.
Kruza wrote:And here are the faults of SBK X that's been mentioned by the same guys:

* It is more difficult to get the bike from upright position at turn-in to full lean in the apex of a corner than it should be.

* Applying light pressure on the front brake while leaning should not immediately stand up the bike the way it does in the game.

* The use of rear brakes in order to ride fast in the corners is emphasized far too much in the game over maintaining proper corner entry speed, precise steering and throttle management, which are all factors that are supposed to represent more important criteria in terms of improving cornering skills and technique.
Kruza, these are all major flaws that I felt tonight when I played SBK X. And flaw No. 1 is a massive game-breaker for me. Grip, lean and cornering in SBK X are so unrealistic because of the difficulty to transition the bike from upright to full lean. These bikes aren't prototypes, but I think a garden hoe has more precise steering than the Superbikes in this game. It's damn near impossible for me to float a bike through a medium-speed corner in this game. The understeer is insane.

I trust your word that the recent MotoGP games are worse than SBK X. That's disappointing, as it looks like there's not a bike racer for the 360 that will satisfy me. MotoGP 2 for the Xbox continues to set the proverbial bar for console bike racers.

Hey, but I'm digging GRAW 2 and Assassin's Creed. So two out of four of my cheapo purchases for a whopping total of $13 today are solid. I'll return PGR 4 and SBK X for Gamestop credit and snag something else.

Appreciate the continued input from you cats. Keep it coming!

Not sure many people were fans of PGR4 like they were the older games.

Again...for arcade racing try Midnight Club LA or Test Drive Unlimited 2. Both are awesome.

Thanks. Always dug Midnight Club on the PS2, and I think my boys would like it. I need an arcade racer in which I'm chasing or being chased. Midnight Club, NFS Hot Pursuit, etc.

You are getting in to the 360 a little late, but it is really working toward your advantage. You get to play all these great games, pick and choose the best ones for cheap. Good for you!

Yes, sir! Being a tight f*ck has its advantages. Having a ball. Thanks. :)

Piggy, Simo, Don:

Thanks for the solid call on Indy 500 Evolution. Returned SBK X and PGR 4 today and got Indy 500 Evolution and $10 in change, as I think the Gamestop clerk screwed up on my refund in my favor. :)

I500E might be the ugliest Xbox 360 game in history. Mediocre frame rate, tires with square edges, etc. But the racing model is EXCELLENT for a console game. I love how rivals will move over to cut you off in a fair, hard way when you're trying to pass and how rivals will dive under you for the pass the second you drift high in the turns.

It's also fun as hell to run so many classic cars from such a wonderful technological era of the 500. Plus my sons laugh out loud any time I mention the names Bill Cheesbourg, Arnie Knepper and Bud Tinglestad. :)
