The SEC is the Marlins problem right now. :)

SEC probing financing of new Marlins stadium

MIAMI -- The Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating the financing of the Miami Marlins' new downtown stadium.

SEC subpoenas to the city and Miami-Dade County are seeking a long list of documents and records.

These include records of meetings between government officials and Marlins and Major League Baseball executives. The subpoenas also want campaign contribution records and documents related to taxation of stadium parking garages.

An SEC official says in a letter the probe is focused on whether any federal securities laws have been broken in the $634 million stadium financing deal.

The stadium is set to open for the 2012 season. The Marlins are on a spending spree to sign free agents including ex-Mets star Jose Reyes.

The SEC probe was first reported by The Miami Herald.

That whole marlins "offer" to Pujols was a farce. Not one source could verify it.
10spro and Gregg: maybe we had incorrect take. The Pujols to the Marlins talk looks legit. If yes, Pujols and Reyes on same team will nearly make the existing Arod contract (debacle) look pedestrian.

How about Ozzie Guillien :)

Ozzie Guillen salivates over a Marlins lineup anchored by Albert Pujols

Yeah, the fact that Gregg mentioned there was nothing concrete doesn't mean there was no interest at all in Pujols. Now with Reyes signed, I just thought that the Marlins would ease up on signing AP but it does look like they are talking again.

Yes, I was referring to that "$225 million offer" that was being thrown around at the time. It looks like the talks have just begun. I still can't imagine he signs anywhere but STL. I just hope he doesn't have a TV Special on ESPN to announce it. :)

Marlins optimistic on signing Albert Pujols

http://eye-on-baseball.blogs.cbssports. ... 2/33727533

Could Albert Pujols seriously be taking his talents to South Beach? The Miami Marlins have grown optimistic on landing the superstar first baseman, CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler has learned. Monday night, Scott Miller reported that the Marlins had increased their offer to Pujols. Knobler and Miller have learned the Marlins new offer to Pujols is for 10 years, but the dollars are not yet known.

I read that "the no-trade clause" will be a sticking point, as the Marlins don't historically give them to anyone.

Miami is crazy offering a 10 year deal and Albert would be crazy to take it without a no-trade clause......The Marlins have already had two fire sales.

Without one, Albert could be shipped to the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, or the LA teams in a couple of years. If he's really about stability and winning, then I can't see him going for this.

I would NEVER give ANY baseball player a 10 year deal.. good grief.

When is enough money, enough money?

I wouldn't see being traded to Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, or Dodgers (Mets, eh..) as lessening my chances of "winning".

Maybe not, but he's supposed to be playing for the Marlins not the above mentioned teams. I don't think Albert has the idea of being "shopped" without controlling his destiny as a great addition to this contract offer.

I now see the Cardinals have offered him a 10 year deal also, prob with a no-trade clause (like he's had his whole career)...wow crazy stuff going on, the Cardinals have taken the Marlins bait apparently.

Fox Sports claims he will "make his decision" by the end of the day today. I don't care what STL pays him, just it get it done baby!

the fans in ST Louis deserve Pujols, and to me it's 'right' for baseball, that he remains in St Louis. In the category of George Brett, Yount, and other greats who played for one franchise.

at same time, have to agree with the point Mike & Mike made this morning via ESPN. Basically they said, if ST Louis DOESN'T sign Pujols nothing changes. They will sell the same amount of seats for games, and fans will avidly continue to support the franchise either way, same TV/radio revenues, etc. ST Louis won the negotiation this week, however personally i believe they lost. The contract will be better then the Arod contract. However, it's a chance this fine franchise didn't have to take (and i wouldn't have).

additionally, why does Harold Reynolds (and others) continue to emphasize Hanley Ramirez is a shortstop? Based on what Marlin fans have said the past 2 years, he makes Jeter look like Ozzie Smith

Marlins should trade him to a team, for pitching. And then move him to the OF

Hahaha...f*cking Marlins can't do anything right. First...those uniforms and now they move their perennial batting champ/all star to make room for an oft-injured Jose Reyes and now Ramirez is demanding a trade. LOL. Classic.

8)

Miami Marlins sign Reyes + Miami Marlins lose Hanley Ramirez

net gain for Miami Marlins offense = 0

Reports starting to fly that Rollins and the Phillies have agreed On a new deal but both sides are denying. Hopefully where there is smoke there is fire.

The Marlins are banking on a full house nearly every night. I sure hope those parking garages under scrutiny have some security. No matter how great the new park is,its still a run down area, and I hope I'm wrong ,but I just don't see it happening. I won't go there unless I'm with a group or an afternoon game.
As far as Albert goes,I do hope you Cards fans get him back. Certain guys belong in one uniform, and if the Cards give him 10 yrs, so be it. As Jim Bowden aptly put it on Xm radio today, St Louis has to look at the last 3 yrs of his contract as deferred payment for the first 3 yrs they got before arbitration, that they got MVP numbers out of him with a rookie contract. Makes sense to me.

Hey Snaz, how great is Bowden on XM? I love his insight on the MLB channel on XM. I rarely change the channel on my XM receiver :)
