STOP THE PRESSES: Oilers win! And it wasn't a one-goal game! Nice win in the Shark Tank, as Penner and Hemsky were flying.
Very entertaining Philly-Boston game last night.

Thoroughly enjoyed Flyers game last night. Torrent of goals, debatable calls, goal mouth scrambles. Makes me wonder what I missed by being too young for 80s hockey!
Game does serve as a reminder though for Flyers weakness in net (though even Thomas, who is playing like a god this season, gave up 5).

Canucks bounced back with a statement in WAS after being SO by King Lundqvist last night in NYC. They played most of the game with 5 D-men against an offense as potent as the Caps. Even tough they lost two men to injury tonite, AO was held scoreless. It's road game 4 of 5 on Sunday against Minny.

It's not sounding too good for Crosby:

Maybe Bettman will move to make all head shots illegal for the 2011-12 season now that his No. 1 cash cow may be out for a long time.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Huge hit by Drew Doughty on Taylor Hall, and it's legal as hell.
Legal, legal, legal.
And why must every team in the NHL "stand up" for a teammate who was leveled by a legal hit? If anything, Penner should have skated to Hall and said, "Keep your f*cking head up, rookie," instead of starting a melee and putting the Oilers a man down.
Ridiculous. Legal.

I agree with you there PK. Doughty and PK Subban threw some thundering hips checks last night that would make the now retired Rob Blake damn proud.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Looks like the 'Nuckers will reach double digits in the loss department tonight as Minny is having a big lead blanking VAN. The boys just don't seem to have the legs going in St Paul.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Nice win in NY for the Flyers yesterday. A sluggish 3rd period but they still pulled it out. The scrum in that game set the tone for a "must see" game the next time these two meet. Sean Avery might want to keep his head on a swivel
Gotta wait til Feb 20th but I'll definitely be watching that one.

Well, I agree it was legal, but only on the second or third camera angle that CBC showed. Live, and on the first one, it looked like a head shot, and even the announcers thought so too. Penner probably thought so as well, and even if he didn't, I can see why he went after Doughty.pk500 wrote:

Nobody touched Gretzky because of folks like Semenko, so the Oil want Taylor Hall to feel protected too. Different era, I know, and nobody can really feel "protected"...... but part of me is glad Penner went after him and showed some grit.
On the flip side, I'm also glad when they interviewed Hall afterwards, he admitted it was a clean hit, and he had his head down for the pass because he didn't think Drew could close on him that fast, so, the kid will learn.

I am pretty sure Flyers fans are glad that GM P. Holmgren signed with the organization for an extended three years term.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Yes sir. He's been great. Most of the team has his mark. He was in charge of scouting prior to being GM so Holmgren has been awesome.10spro wrote:I am pretty sure Flyers fans are glad that GM P. Holmgren signed with the organization for an extended three years term.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Crowd pleaser tonight in Philly. 6 goals and a win for the home team, with several fights, including three simultaneous fights late in the game.
This could be the best Flyers team in memory. Statistically, this was the quickest they've gotten to 30 wins since the Keenan era in the 80s.
Also, DET signs Nabokov for $570k, but he has to clear waivers first. Is that really possible? Apparently the Isles are considering taking him. Nabokov would probably be pissed.
Can you trade someone you get off waivers? Could a team like the Isles claim Nabokov, then hold him hostage for a trade to Detroit?

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
To answer my own question, you can't trade someone you claim off waivers without the original team (DET in this case) getting a chance to take him.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
For that price Nabokov will be claimed for sure. If not by the Isles, there will a bunch of teams that would benefit greatly from his services. Teams like WAS, PHI, CHI if they want to come out strong in the playoffs. CBJ and OTT are in need of some goaltending too.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Canucks are in the middle of their toughest schedule of the season. They were back at home after a mediocre .500 record on the road and faced an improved Sharks team. They looked good for the initial 30 minutes and SJ took over the latter part of the game. Very impressed with rookie L. Couture for the Sharks, very patient and poised with the puck. VAN looked fatigued as the game went on, I think they played something like their 12th game in 19 nights and with that heavy schedule not surprisingly, injuries are starting to creep in after a rather relatively healthy season.
Guys are not scoring by committee lately, special teams have slowed down and as a result, they've struggled lately. They're definitely in a bit of a funk right now.
With Salo still looking at least another few weeks before he can play, the D looks a bit shaky at this point. Luongo faced more than 45 shots as the game went into a SO and the Sharks winning the breakaway competition.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I don't see how the Flyers could pass on Nabokov at that price, given that rumor had it he was their number 1 choice in the offseason. Of course the Flyers are last on waiver priority, so it may not matter, and even then I'm not sure they'll do it.
Keep in mind that if a team like the Isles take him, he'll probably just say "forget it" and not play at all this season.

Canucks lost, but their only goal was a beauty between the Twins. A highlight reel goal.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
It's looking like Nabokov will be a Red Wing. That's a pretty damned good pickup considering he is coming off his best NHL season before going to Europe. Glad to see him coming back to the NHL. He is too talented to be wasting away in the KHL.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
These guys can't score an ugly goal even if they wanted to. That was pure skill.pk500 wrote:James:

On another negative note for Sami Salo, Mr Injury could actually be gone now for the rest of the season as his achiles tendon is taking awhile to heal. C. Tanev has been called from the AHL, but coach AV hasn't given him too many minutes as the now thin 5 D-men have been playing more minutes than what they're used to and have been more error prone.
D.Lombardi have been fined 50.000
Hottest team in the West these days are actually the Stars, they're just right up there with DET and VAN whom they face on Monday and could just settle for top spot in the Western conference. M. Crawford gets my vote for the J.Adams.
