What a comeback by the Russian juniors. They were amazing - came back in the Quarters and Semis too.

They sure silenced the Buffalo Ontario crowd :P

Perception is funny too. The TSNs clowns kept calling it a monumental collapse instead of a great comeback. Sure it was a bit of both but I saw it the way you saw it. Amazing, never say die, play to the end play for three straight games by the Russians.

Well, a bit of both happened. It is considered a collapse for Team Canada when you're leading 3-0 after 40 minutes and the Russians run you out of any momentum and tie it in less than 5 minutes. Somewhere, somehow, the Canadiens thought that they had Gold wrapped around their necks and they underestimated the Russian talent who have been making a living of coming from behind in the third period of their last 3 games and played their best Hockey yet.

Visentin was not the same rock solid goaltending that shut down the Americans, and coach Cameron should have called for a time out when when the game was at stake at 3-2.

You could see the Russians gathering confidence and in these type of tournaments where you don't have a tomorrow, anything can happen in a short period of time. Russia came out with all cylinders the last 20 minutes of the game and could sense blood when the game was tied at 3.

Russia took chances and it worked wonderfully for them. Canada was celebrating too early in their minds.
Where they the best team

God bless the Canadian people, I love them to death for giving the world the greatest sport on earth, however I loved seeing the Russians win gold and give the Canadians a little taste of humble pie.

One thing is for certain -- the Russians sure were happy to win and know how to party, as Delta kicked them off their flight today, lol:

Beauty of a goal last night by the Sedins. The pass lifted over the defender's stick near the end is perfection.

The Oils played tight against Vancouver especially in the first period and they have done so in their previous three encounters. But experience or lack of with this young team is the issue. After Khabi gave that soft goal to Kesler which made the game 2-0 for the good guys, you could see the frustration on some Oil players.

Now back to the Sedins, Daniel could have netted also a 'chapeau trick' if coach AV played them more in the last 10 minutes. And when they score, they could not shove a garbage one even if they wanted to, their ability to read each other with their talent is just amazing.

That goal was a beauty especially with Hank's saucer pass in front of a sprawling D-man in front of him, while Daniel's 1st goal was also a highlight reel.

Not to be missed. Top two teams in the the league facing each other at Rogers arena. Both teams beating the Alberta teams last night, both red hot, the level of intensity and skills displayed when they face each other is special. It's the Canucks vs Wings.

DET-VAN played their heavyweight match as if it was already in May. Tight chess type game between both top teams where only special teams were able to score in regulation.

Jimmy Howard stoned the Canucks several times and was rock solid in the SO. Wings have a lot of depth, despite some key injuries, they play a well balanced game and keep coming at you.

Pretty sure these 2 teams will see plenty of each other in the spring.

If the playoffs were held now it would be tough to bet against Detroit, even with all their injuries. Those guys are playing complete team hockey and it's a joy to watch. Vancouver and Nashville are both looking good at this point as well. I don't think I remember a time in the NHL when a conference had as much parity as the West does right now. I mean, San Jose is 10th now and they are a pretty darned good team. Chicago is 11th and St. Louis is 12th, both good teams. Heck 7th through 11th are all tied at 47 points, lol. The playoff hunt in the West is simply going to be nuts the last two weeks of the season. It's ashamed that several strong teams will likely not even make the playoffs when it's all said and done. The false idea that the regular season doesn't mean much in the NHL is getting thrashed more than ever this year. EVERY SINGLE point is going to matter for more than a couple teams. Gotta love the NHL!

Watching the Flyers at Buffalo and I am diggin' the sweaters the Sabres are wearing.
The old Sabre, Danny Briere lights the lamp to tie it at two!

Over 90 shots were recorded between the Isles and 'Nucks in Long Island as VAN had a scare with 6 minutes left in the game when the home team went ahead 3-2. Not that NYI have been playing badly despite their lousy record, because these guys came to play and have been for the past dozen games. The game went eventually into a SO where my good guy R. Kesler put the game away with a nice move on Poulin.

One of the reasons the Canucks are an elite team this season is the play of their third and fourth line play. Guys like unsung hero Tanner Glass. Not a big fellow but he plays tough, he blocks shots and in the absence of M. Rypien he's been the go-to guy when it comes to fights. And he ain't bad neither as shown in the video as he drops Martin with a right that Pacman would be proud of.

Another one-goal loss for the Oil. This is getting REALLY old, REALLY fast.

So Hemsky is the token Oiler. Nice to see that puck ragging that never amounts to anything still impresses the coaches.

Hemsky's selection is a joke -- it should be Ryan Whitney. He has been the best player on the Oil by a mile this season. He's hurt, so his availability is questionable for the game. But he's 2-25, +13 for the Oil this season and has been a rock on the blue line.

Agreed 100%. I don't know the league as well as some of you guys because I've only recently become a huge fan of the NHL (past 3 years or so) so I'm still getting to know the league (other than my Flyers). That is the one thing I have noticed about the elite teams since really paying attention. Nearly every team has a really good line or two but the upper tier teams have 3rd and 4th lines that get it done. I haven't seen the Canucks this year but I watch nearly every Flyers game and their 3rd and 4th lines are a notch above what have seen from most other teams...and even the Flyers in recent years. I was very impressed with Detroit also. I've grown to appreciate a lot about the NHL. I just love the atmosphere of the sport and the unwritten "codes" the players nearly always seem to stick to. It really is a tremendous sport.

Absolutely. Goals everywhere. Boston has two of the shittiest goals I have seen all year tonight...including the last one which hit the netting prior to the rush. Weak no call by the officials. Recchi's bad bounce goal off the boards was a gift too. Oh well, those are the breaks.
