It would be like me going into the Backbreaker thread and posting all the negative stuff.. I don't have the game, so why should I care?

Why would you ever post negative things about Backbreaker? In the hopes that it would improve, right? Same thing.bkrich83 wrote:Trolling the forums here is a means to that end?vinny-b wrote:maybe GT Hobbes is hoping EA/Tribuon will one day put out a Madden title worthy of a purchase.MizzouRah wrote:Posting negative things for a game in which you do not have puzzles me.

I don't have an agenda with backbreaker. I posted here about it after you asked my opinion. I know nothing I post here positive or negative will have the slightest affect on the development of the next version of BB, if there is another version.
And please, don't insult people's intelligence with the you only post what you do so Madden improves. You know as we all do, that's simply not the case, but a convienient excuse to hide behind. The content of your actual posts, as well as the petty insults you hand out, make your purpose abundantly clear.

Yes and I would if I had the game and could post from that perspective, but I don't and would be merely copying and pasting?GTHobbes wrote:

Smell like a man, man!
Honestly, the only ads that bother me are the ones voiced by Gus Johnson. He sounds like a tool.
The rest of it I couldn't care less about. It is what it is. Some people just like to tilt at those windmills. I think they find it therapeutic.

Considering there are ads everywhere, websites, the movies, magazines, you name it, I guess I just don't care, nor do I pay them much attention.XXXIV wrote:

To me its the same as seeing ads during a soccer game or NFL Sunday telecast. I think I felt like 34 10 years ago when it was somewhat new, but now it's part of sports so I just ignore it.
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Definately not the same thing as a telecast but thanks for the wisdom of your advanced years. Re: Madden 11 Impressions
I actually like ads in a sports game because it adds to the authenticity. The same goes for the announcers, adds to the authenticity. What I don't like is that the added revenue to the publisher is not translating to lower game prices.

Re: Madden 11 Impressions
So I am totally clear...I have played more TW golf this year than the last 5 years combined. I have played nearly 100 games of HUT in NHL11. I cannot tell you if either has ads. The point is that I think they are just plain wrong.Rodster wrote:I actually like ads in a sports game because it adds to the authenticity. The same goes for the announcers, adds to the authenticity. I am clearly in the minority. Product placement has taken the gaming world by storm
I will now stop beating this dead horse, go eat breakfast and meditate for the upcoming Rams Hawks noon game.
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Added revenue for the publisher to offset development, advertising costs. In game ads is a personal thing for some like in game announcers. There are those on DSP who turn off the play by play and there are others who probably can't get into the game if it's bad or not as a immersive as it should be i.e. like a TV Telecast.XXXIV wrote:So I am totally clear...I have played more TW golf this year than the last 5 years combined. That's where I fit in I guess, I see ads as nothing more than immersion. The problem is the publisher usually signs a deal with one or two major advertisers and you are constantly reminded of that ad over and over again. That's the trade off right now as most game companies pay for that, I think? In the future hopefully advertisers will seek out game companies and offer their ads for free so it will feel more real.
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
I'm pretty sure Old Spice and the other advertisers pay EA to be included in the game. The only exception I think would be the breast cancer awareness ads, but I'm not even sure about that. If done right, I think in game ads could be great by adding to the realism. But when done wrong, they sure as hell stand out and invite criticism.
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Agreed, if done right ad placement can add to the immersion but if it's to in your face then it gets annoying like listening to Rex Hudler on The Show lol.GTHobbes wrote:I'm pretty sure Old Spice and the other advertisers pay EA to be included in the game. Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Here's my problem with it... The consumer sees no added benefit from advertising. Is the game cheaper? Is there more innovation? It's more to offset the cost of development so that earning appeared greener to stockholders.Rodster wrote:Agreed, if done right ad placement can add to the immersion but if it's to in your face then it gets annoying like listening to Rex Hudler on The Show lol.GTHobbes wrote:I'm pretty sure Old Spice and the other advertisers pay EA to be included in the game. Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Authenticity and realism (*should*) have their limits in videogames. I don't want a game of MLB the Show to take 3 hours like a real game. I don't want to wait for ads in between every possesion in a football game. I don't want ads at all. All they do is take me out of what I really want to be doning, and that is playing a game. It's not immersive to me to be reminded by the same ad spots for Sprint or Pontiac or Old Spice of how much I hate ads.
It's getting to the point where I'm losing interest in sports games, and I think a lot of it has to do with things like this. I watch enough real games on TV that when I pop in a game I don't really want to feel like I'm playing a telecast. I want the games to be fun and to a certain level, represent the sport. While most of todays games do a pretty good job at mimicing the sport, not many of them lately have been fun.

Re: Madden 11 Impressions
I could care less about ads in games as long as they don't interfere with playing the game. The pop up ad last year drove me nuts because it happened every play and block my view of the line of scrimmage while they were walking up to it preventing me from getting an early read on the play. This year the ad is unobtrusive so I could care less.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
