You know that goes both ways right? Nor does it matter. Your agenda is transparent, you might as well stop even trying to pretend like you don't have a lame brand loyalty driven bias. Everyone knows what you're going for.GTHobbes wrote:

No realliy it's totally logical for a guy who doesn't own nor play the game to have the most posts of anyone in the impressions thread. Traded in Madden? The season hasn't even started yet and I would say to those people, why not give EA a chance at a patch first?GTHobbes wrote:Todd, almost 3 weeks passed without hardly any impressions being posted. No offense, but is anyone really need of impressions a month outside release on a Tiburon football game? From what I read, a good number have traded it in already, will be doing so when NHL is released, or have shelved it until the patch hits. This thread only saw activity when the sales info was posted. I'd expect things will pick back up for impressions when the patch drops.
The ONLY reason I haven't played yet is because I'm deep into my NCAA franchise and don't want to pick up any bad habits from the NFL game as far as button assignments for various game play actions go. I have to be in top shape to play against Texas Tech this week!
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
I'm on the fence for trading Madden in right now. I'm enjoying NCAA a lot more, and when NHL 11 drops, I'm not sure I need two football games to take up my time. But as the season gets closer, I feel the tug to play Madden more and more. So I may just suck it up and keep both for awhile.MizzouRah wrote:Traded in Madden? The problem I am having with Madden is that it just has too many big plays, and the scores of every game are through the roof. It needs some serious balancing, and I've grown tired of trying to do it myself. Also, as much as I was willing to accept the Strat Pad, the old way really is better, which makes NCAA that much more fun to play. So it really may be worth waiting a few weeks for the to get patched back in.
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
I personally would keep Madden. I have a feeling that Gamestop is going to be doing a $40 trade in towards Madden 12 when the season is over. No facts other than they are getting more competition from Amazon, Newegg, Target, and Best Buy. That's what drove them this year because Amazon was doing a $20 GC for preordering M11. I'm definitely keeping my copy and rolling the dice they do it again.Aristo wrote:I'm on the fence for trading Madden in right now. Re: Madden 11 Impressions
That's not a bad plan. Gamestop was also giving an extra 25% on trade-ins towards Madden. I doubt they do that for NHL 11.Rodster wrote:I personally would keep Madden. Re: Madden 11 Impressions
GT, I honestly don't think people at this forum have a problem with people saying anything bad about Madden. If you look through the thread plenty of people here have some negative things to say about the game but a lot of them are still enjoying it despite those issues. I think a big reason people have reacted to you in a certain manner stems from the fact that you don't own the game and are saying how it sucks because sales numbers are down for the 6th consecutive year. In response to that I posted the sales numbers from the website that you are getting your numbers for just for the Xbox 360 and PS3 which are the premier versions of the game, and they paint a completely different picture since they have gone up every year. You conveniently side-step those numbers and act as if I hadn't even posted them by going back on the "overall sales numbers are down" spiel. I offer up two solid arguments as to why overall sales numbers are down and you totally dismiss them.
I honestly don't think it is accurate to judge the overall sales of the franchise when the marketplace and ease of piracy is completely different than it was 6 years ago. I do think it is accurate to judge the product based upon each individual version and the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Madden have increased sales each year.
And to the many people who are supporting GT through PM's, why not support him on the forums? It would definitely help him more than sending him encouraging PM's agreeing with him. It would definitely make me think there is more to what he is saying if I actually saw more and more forum regulars echoing his sentiments. Is it really putting yourself out there to voice your support of what he says in this thread? C'mon, voice your support and let's turn this into more of a discussion than a guy defending himself against a few regulars who have had their fill. Show these regulars that GT is not alone.
I have sat back and watched this thread and haven't intervened because for the most part it has remained civil. There have been a few comments here and there that were pushing it but it hasn't escalated. Jared might feel differently but I kind of feel that this has been brewing for a while and it might be good to hash it out and move on. As long as the hashing it out remains civil there's no problems. So let's keep this civilized, work through it, move forward and if anybody wants to interject some Madden impressions then have at it.
And for those calling for a return to impressions please keep in mind that a couple of years ago everyone pretty much agreed to keep all discussion on individual games kept in one thread rather than have seperate preview discussion, demo impression, and final release impression threads. Everybody wanted game discussion tied up in one package with a pretty bow. This bow might not be pretty but it is in the box you asked for.

Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Trolling is not exactly something that would be included in that pretty package we asked for...from what I remember. And clearly, someone who has posted 5 times more in the thread about a game he hates more than the one he loves (at least recently)...is pretty much the definition of trolling. But yeah...we must have asked for that.ScoopBrady wrote:And for those calling for a return to impressions please keep in mind that a couple of years ago everyone pretty much agreed to keep all discussion on individual games kept in one thread rather than have seperate preview discussion, demo impression, and final release impression threads. I have no problem with GT and i've made myself pretty clear I get where he's coming from and I wish I could play something other than Madden every year but it's not going to happen for a very long time if ever, that's the reality. Re: Madden 11 Impressions
I think it has been an entertaining thread. Kudos to everyone involved.
Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Played a game against my neighbor last night.. although I was the Rams and he was Minnesota.. BASTARD!
I lost 34-21 and I will say.. the game is definitely about the big play, even after using the new rosters. My DB's were nowhere to be found.. but the game was fun to play.
I don't think it compares to NCAA, but even with the high scores, I think it will be fun to run through a season.

What time settings are you guys using? I can't find one that feels good, but 11 minutes with 20 second run-off is probably my favorite at this point.

Re: Madden 11 Impressions
Scoop, a couple of points. One, these guys don't care that I don't own the game this year. I bought Madden every year until this year, and the same guys (excluding aristo who, as I noted, seems to be new) have told me to shut up every year and to "just don't buy the game if I don't like it.". Truthfully, I didn't think last year's game was terrible by any stretch, and I knew after playing the demo this year that Madden fans would like it. Madden's an average football game that would be even better if we didn't have 2k or BB to compare it to (or even NBA2k, The Show, FIFA or NHL showing how next gen sports games can be done).ScoopBrady wrote:GT, I honestly don't think people at this forum have a problem with people saying anything bad about Madden. I know that my "schtick" wore off for a lot of guys 6 years ago, but should I let that stop me from posting news about Madden's sales numbers when no one else is reporting them here? I don't think so, especially when Peter Moore, Ian and the ever-growing team of EA Game Changers are all saying something different to try to create excitement about how well M11 is doing. I purposefully stayed out of the impressions when M11 was released because (1) I was interested in hearing impressions also -- believe it or not, I'd like to have an NFL game that I could buy and enjoy again, and (2) I know from watching these guys post negative s*** in the BB thread how annoying it is to have others raining on your parade. But 3 weeks worth of sales data is interesting to read (for me at least) and, with impressions dying down and the patch not out, I figured they were fair game to discuss in this thread. After 6 years of being told I have an anti-EA agenda (even though I repeatedly buy and enjoy their hockey offering, and respect their soccer game), I shouldn't take it personally anymore but I'm human and responded. (The "f*** you dude" to bkrich wasn't civil and I apologize, but I ain't no victim and didn't like him suggesting that I thought I was.) Given the hatred that I get every year from these guys for speaking up about Tiburon's incompetence, I'm not at all surprised that others prefer to just stay out of it.
As for your point about sales, it's mostly a good one (as I've pointed out, only the PS3 numbers appear to be up this year; the 360, PSP, Wii and PS2 numbers are all down somewhat significantly from last year). But if EA signed the NFL exclusive back when they were selling 7 million units a year, and they're struggling to sell 5 million units now, I'm guessing it's small consolation that their next gen sales ticked slightly upwards each year (until this year) while their overall sales are down. Like Divot said, EA is going to have some tough decisions to make if their sales don't dramatically change soon. They laid off a good chunk of their workforce last year, and I'm guessing there's no more meat left to cut from that bone. Pre-order discounts didn't seem to work. What else can they do? We'll have to wait and see.
For those that like Madden this year, I'm glad for ya -- really I am. Please keep posting them impressions, as I like reading them too (they've been pretty few and far between this year). But heads up, 4th week sales numbers will be out on Friday. Whatever they show, you can bet I'll post 'em here, so fair warning. NPD numbers for the month shouldn't be far behind, and my prediction is that they'll show something different than the vgchartz numbers which I'm sure will lead to even more discussion.

I am using 12 with 20 second run-off. I get right around 100-110 plays total a game with that setting.Dave wrote:What time settings are you guys using? I can't find one that feels good, but 11 minutes with 20 second run-off is probably my favorite at this point.

Re: Madden 11 Impressions
It's always a GREAT idea to post sales numbers in a severely depressed and declining economy. I mean that's just a brilliant way to look at numbers when the start of the trend line is in a booming economy. OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO GO DOWN! Sales numbers me absolutely jack sh*t right now.

I think we all wish we had choices to play. I think everyone will agree exclusive licensing is a real bummer. It is what it is. I have moved on. I buy Madden and if I like it I play it, and if I don't I don't. Same with NCAA. This is the first time, basically ever, that I have actually liked both NCAA and Madden in the same year. That being said, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't kill for an updated version of 2k football.
When it comes to the licensing agreement, I often wonder why EA gets demonized yet the NFL, the NFLPA and even the NCAA get no blame from anyone. Everyone calls EA the evil empire, but really from that standpoint the NFL itself and even the NCAA represent that same thing even more so.

Having never tried the 'online franchise' before, I'm really impressed with the amount of work the put into it. They even a free iPhone app that lets you manage your roster, look at league stats, etc... Pretty great.
