If I wasnt a Hab fan I would be even more dissapointed by this deal than the Halak deal...

I have to disagree with you guys on this one. I think the Hawks had their backs to the salary cap wall and were able to get a young prospect and two decent draft picks and likely $6M in cap space in one deal (I highly doubt Reasoner is earmarked for the final roster and likely ends up in lovely Rockford if he stays with the organization). . .sure it cost them Byfuglien but there was no possible way they could keep all of these guys. . .sure they could have gotten more but if they take back players that isn't helping their bottom line. . .and they would have to trade them or other core pieces. . .

And really, let's face it. . .the guy has been wildly inconsistent in the regular season and suddenly awakens in the playoffs. . .I can understand why you wouldn't want to hitch your wagon to that type of player. . .

And for the local ESPN Radio Clowns who ambushed Big Buff. . .those guys are classless clowns who are desperate for ratings. . .so I would tend to think that they were in the wrong here more so than the Blackhawks. . .my guess is that they didn't want to tell the players until the League gave them the green light, which wouldn't of happened until tomorrow due to the festivities in Las Vegas. . .

I love Buff and will definitely miss him but if it means we get to keep Steeger and Sharpie, I will live with it. I like his versatility but Versteeg and Sharp delivered in the regular season AND the playoffs. Now to get Huet in Europe where his salary won't count on the cap and the Hawks are looking good.

Reflecting back at the NHL awards on Wednesday night, I enjoyed the show, except you would think that for the Hart trophy, they would give Henrik more time to make his speech instead of rushing him. Congrats to the Viking for a great season indeed. I was certain that Crosby would take the trophy but I guess there are enough Easterners staying up for the 'Nucks games.

Must be Guy's French accent but how do you say Sedin again?

Look forward to the draft.

No surprises for the top three draft picks. T. Hall will do just fine for the Oils.

With PHI trading back the rights of D. Hamhuis to PIT, it's obvious that the former Predator could not come to a financial agreement with the Flyers who already have a tight cap. Is he going to sign with the Pens? If R. Shero waves S. Gonchar good bye, it's very possible. He's going to be asking at least for 4-5 big ones a year.

That one didn't work out, did it? Not sure about this business of trading for rights before negotiating with the player. Rumor was the Flyers had a deal for Hamhuis at the deadline, but didn't pull the trigger because he wouldn't resign, reportedly Philly was too tough a town to play in. If true, I guess that hasn't changed.

I'm kind of sour on Ryan Parent at the moment, but they essentially traded him for a 3rd and 7th in the 2011 draft.

Apparently Hamhuis was insisting on being the Flyers' 3rd defensman. Also, Philly has a verbal agreement to get Nabokov which would be an major upgrade in goal on paper, but I doubt it will be enough to reverse the bad luck goalies always seem to have here.

Hmmm, this guy could easily be a top two in any other team, so I can see why. He may not have the physical presence of Pronger and Carle but he does have wheels and can be a shutdown man if the coach chooses him in that function. He's that good, so I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to test the market next week.

Nabokov seems unlikely now because he wants too much money, so the Flyers are looking at Mary Turco.

Are there any other 30-something goalies who have never won a Cup out there that they should try?

I thought Turco turned them down already on a 2 year, 2 million per contract.

Teams who are chasing 30-something goalies would be smart to look at Edmonton's signing of Khabibulin as cautionary tale. Most goalies at that age have quite a bit of mileage and wear and tear. Anything longer than a two-year deal is nuts.

Of course, the genius tandem of Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini in Edmonton signed The Bulin Wall to a four-year deal last summer despite his lack of durability in recent years. And of course, he played only 18 games for the Oil last season due to a herniated disc in his back.

Khabibulin is a classic contract year player. He put together some good years for TB, but in PHX and especially CHI he was simply a different player in contract years. A lot of other goalies have their best years from about 30-36 though.

Some sources have denied the Flyers ever offered Turco, though I wouldn't have a problem with that 2 year $2m offer reported. Otherwise not the biggest fan of Turco. Nabokov is too expensive though and Tim Thomas's contract is terrible. I'm very worried about what the Flyers will end up with in net.

I like the trade that Burkie made with CHI as the Leafs get more experience and grit in K. Versteeg. CHI continues to dump salary and they are not finsih yet, I don't think. This is what happens when you got the dynamic duo of Seabrook and Keith signed for long terms, Toews and Kane but the killer IMO is still the long term deal to M. Hossa.

They have yet to sign Niemi, this team will look quite different at the start of the season.

The Campbell deal is the albatross for Chicago. He's not worth the dough for that long of a term.

Depends on how you look at it. That signing has so far helped yield one cup and there may be a couple more on the way.

It will be different for sure...but the 5 biggest players...the ones you watched play in the olympics will all still be there.
