Rock Band - Impressions...

If you're playing the guitar on pro mode, you're not going to be watching those things on screen much, I guarantee it. The muscle memory required to hit those things will translate to muscle memory for notes pretty soon, and you may look at it once in a while, but you'll start to remember what note is where and start fretting them like a normal guitar.
I don't think it's designed to really look at it and hit like the standard RB game. Looking at that, you'd have to understand music theory and scales and crap to start going that fast up and down the fretboard.
Not really sure how they'd handle chords, but I'm intrigued to say the least.

So here's the Squier:

Harmonix pretty much sold us on it with one pretty badass trick: the ability to simultaneously play Rock Band 3 on Pro Expert and rock the same tune through an amplifier. Bonus: in the presentation we saw, extra notes and added fills didn't seem to affect score. So, that just about turns the uncanny valley of plastic peripherals on its head.
Assuming the thing actually works and I don't have to take out a second mortgage to get it, THIS is what I want.

That is pretty awesome. And if I am interpreting this correctly, it looks like you can use easier difficulty levels on pro mode, so you can select easy but still hit the real strings to get used to playing a guitar.
I wonder if they'll have a free play mode for all the instruments, like they do now with drums?

Yeah, that's right, there are various difficulties you can access on Pro mode. There's an interview here:Brando70 wrote:That is pretty awesome. where a Harmonix dude talks about the various levels of Pro (among other things). Says easy Pro is actually pretty easy to get into. He's holding that odd button-guitar, though.

Very cool. Too bad I'd have to buy a whole new electric guitar for this instead of having something I can plug the one I have into. It shouldn't be too much money as that model is a tier below the actual Stratocaster. My guess is it will come in around $200. But you never know they could go as high as $400.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Will any midi guitar work? I think they have extra tech in RB3 guitar beyond midi to tell the xbox what buttons you are hitting.vader29 wrote:Figures that the Def Leppard collectible washburn guitar that I have stored away doesn't have midi on it, was hoping to be able to use it for RB3.
This is pretty impressive though;

The $40 adapter from Madcatz is supposed to allow any MIDI guitar, keyboard or drumset to work with the game.Naples39 wrote:
