Thanks so much for posting that, Adam. Muzza is THE MAN -- no more entertaining racing commentator ever has graced this Earth. The man's enthusiasm for motor racing could awaken people from a coma.

I had the pleasure of meeting Murray in 2000 and 2001 at the U.S. Grand Prix and received an autographed copy of his autobiography and of the 2001 U.S. Grand Prix program -- his last race behind the mike for ITV -- that are probably two of my most treasured racing keepsakes. Murray is just as wonderful off the air as he is on the air. A jewel of a man.

Pretty damn good racing in that clip, too! :)

Ron Dennis thinks Vettel was running out of fuel in Bahrain and the ECU switched into conservation mode. He also goes onto say he found it strange that towards the end of the race he was putting up competitive lap times. The fact that McLaren supplies the ECU some consideration must be given to Ron's claims.

One bit that gives Ron's claim a little consideration is the fact that Seb Vettel ran out of fuel once he crossed the finish line and pulled over.

Any predictions for the Australian GP? IMO if the Red Bull cars don't breakdown then I don't see any other team beating them. It's basically their race to lose.

Prediction: Fewer on-track passes for position within the top 10 than I have fingers. And I have all 10 digits.

Sir Stirling Moss is in a hospital bed, yet he still has nailed it about F1, circa 2010:

If it rains +1 for Alonso, the most complete driver on the grid with the third most competitive car for the race.

Schumi cries foul. I never really did like him anyways. I respect him, but I've never liked him.

I couldn't stay up till 2am to watch the race and I wake to find out Kubica is on the podium. 8O

Don't worry Fletch I don't like Alonso either although he is a brilliant driver. Good for Massa who is only 3 points adrift from his teammate and congrats to Jense who many thought might not win another race.

Good gawd I really feel bad for Red Bull and Vettel. Was his exit due to an error or breakdown again? I didn't see it I read this morning he didn't finish again.

Well, well: Silky-smooth Jense wins a race. Good on him. Too bad Hamilton will finish ahead of him this season in points.

Question?

Why can't the BBC put Croft on TV instead of Legard? I'm listening to the race on 5 Live and it's a slam dunk. The 5 Live crew calls a much, much better race with the exception of Brundle.

edit: I would like to mention what a great job Anthony Davidson has done as well. He could be the next Brundle. He definitely has a career commenting on races.

Pretty entertaining race due mostly to the weather. Hamilton has to be fuming, both from the tire decision and Webber giving him a nudge with a few laps to go.

80 Robert Kubica to Ferrari in 2011? Appears to be so according to the Beeb. I'm watching the race and Brundle and Legard are going on about the impressive drive of Kubica at Lap 44 and how he fancies the seat of the man in his mirrors "i.e. Massa" and how he's just driving this year for Renault and he'll be at Ferrari in 2011.

I know it was rumored but the Beeb is making it sound almost official.

Two possible reasons for it. It's widely rumoured that somebody on BBC's TV team has a problem with Crofty that put the Beeb off having them in the same broadcast, though I don't know who or why. It's also apparent from his work on GP2 for ITV in 2008 that he's not, or wasn't at that time, a particularly good TV commentator. Then again, neither is Jonathan Legard, and there was a 5 year gap between his last 5 Live commentary and his first BBC TV effort. The best man for the job is Ben Edwards, who as far as I know wasn't even considered for the position, which is about par for the course where the BBC are concerned.

There are far worse than Legard (Eurosport and Motors TV in particular mine a rich seam of rubbish, though some of them - I'm looking particularly at you, Carlton Kirby - are strangely enjoyable all the same), but his habit of delaying a Brundle contribution until it's no longer relevant grates, as does his over-reliance on stock phrases. Play a drinking game next time you hear him call a qualifying session - say a shot of Jagermeister every time you hear one of the following:

- Battle has been joined!
- He's on a charge...
- Driving for the line
- Can he do anything about it?
- Is it gonna be enough?

You'll be pissed as a newt by the middle of Q2.

If I might also take this opportunity to be a bit miserable about the race I saw today, those last laps were everything that is wrong about modern Formula One. Hamilton absolutely cruised up to the back of Alonso, and then just got stuck there. An advantage of 1.5 seconds per lap, especially somewhere like Albert Park where there are a couple of very good overtaking opportunities, should be enough to give a driver at least one decent shot at making a move on the car ahead.

The rain, the slippery conditions, the free reign on tyre choice and the possibility of drivers making mistakes were what made the Australian Grand Prix exciting, and as soon as the rain went away, the excitement went with it. I'm probably focusing on the wrong end of the race here, and I'm happy to accept that, but I'm a bit more disenchanted with the sport now than I was yesterday.

Question for you chaps?

What do you make of Massa holding up Alonso. As I see it Alonso was much quicker than his teammate, and his race engineer urged Massa to catch and overtake Kubica. IMO I thought Alonso could have done that. And I whole heartedly agree with Adam. That's what's wrong with modern F1, it's like flypaper. You cruise up to the back of another car and get stuck there unless you have a superior advantage.

So if you were Ferrari would you have given Massa hints to let his teammate on thru? I'm not a big Alonso fan but IT IS a team effort and Alonso in the eyes of many is a more skilled driver than Felipe.

One of the more impressive drives in quite awhile was delivered by Alonso today. To start a race with a busted clutch, then have gearbox problems and keep the car in the points till the last two laps is simply amazing. The last one in recent memory was Schu at Barcelona way back when he only had 5th gear and placed second.

Extremely impressive, indeed. But Hamilton also was an animal today, climbing from 20th up to the top three at one point. There is no better overtaker in F1 than Young Lewis -- it's not even close.

No question on Hammy's overtaking skills but i'm more impressed by Alonso driving a busted car up the field as well. I'm more impressed with that but yeah Hammy's got skillz. 8)

As a motorsport fan, this is about the coolest e-mail I've ever received indicating someone is following me on Twitter:

Hi, Paul Kelly.

Sir Stirling Moss (StirlingMossCom) is now following your tweets on Twitter.

Barber Motorsports Park is beautiful, wow. Pretty good race so far, even though it is a really tight track for the Indycars.

Great first MotoGP race of the season. Got to watch the broadcast late only to find out Stoner crashed while in the lead. Hayden, awesome ride almost had a podium finish but Jorge Lorenzo killed that idea. Still a 4th place finish for Nicky.

The Doctor up to his usual self, pulls out a win. The guy has got to be the best ever. If not i'd like to know who?

Maybe Agostini, but this is a more competitive era.

Fantastic season opener. Pedrosa challenged Rossi hard for the lead after Stoner fell, and the battle for second between Pedrosa, Hayden and Lorenzo was compelling as hell. Great finish for Ben Spies in fifth, too!

MotoGP is the most compelling racing in the world. Rarely fails to deliver.

I'll have to dig up some info on him, thanks. Yeah I forgot to mention a 5th for Ben Spies. Very impressive for his first race in the top flight. I was just focusing by Nicky's speed and performance on the Ducati. I'm glad to see Casey Stoner isn't the only one able to ride the thing.

Thrilling finish for sure. I caught the Stoner spill at the end of the race when they showed the highlights. Quite unusual for someone of his skill and he was in the lead which makes it even more unusual. Was there a reason why he crashed out? :?

With Stoner's performance and Rossi's win and add Lorenzo finishing second, then add Nicky, Pedrosa, and Ben Spies in the mix this looks like one hell of a MotoGP season. 8)
