If there is one thing that has changed in my game over the years it is that my decision making has improved.
If I short side myself, I do not try to make the impossible up and down and just try to get it within 15 feet and take a chance that I will make the putt. Worst thing is I will take a bogey, but it takes the double or triple out of it.
I guess I just decide if I have the shot in my bag. If I don't, I play it safe. Getting boring in my old age, but am enjoying the mental part of the game more.

Got news I'll probably be playing the TPC Las Vegas on June 5 when I hit Vegas. Should be fun!

If any of you guys struggle with your short game, you should really pick up one of these and stop trying to hit those 75-25 yard pitches with your wedges.....
http://www.clevelandgolf.com/US_niblick ... edges.html
You can use this club up to 120 yards and it makes those 50 yard shots SO much easier. No more wedge shot muffs where you slide under it and the ball goes 10 yards.....or where you chunk the wedge and your divot goes farther than the ball
You get a few funny looks out there, but once they see you hitting greens while they struggle, they come around.

I actually know how to hit a wedge which is why I have 5 different ones that I rotate out of my bag based on the course and conditions I am playing in. They are all Cleveland BTW.

That's great for you, but the majority of the weekend duffers out there can't hit wedge pitch shots to save their life.Danimal wrote:I actually know how to hit a wedge which is why I have 5 different ones that I rotate out of my bag based on the course and conditions I am playing in. I didn't mean it like that, just saying I like Cleveland clubs. As for duffing pitch shots really why?JackB1 wrote: That's great for you, but the majority of the weekend duffers out there can't hit wedge pitch shots to save their life.
It is by far one of the easiest thigns to practice in your back yard. There is no excuse for being a bad wedge player, it's like putting you just practice it. I would say it is easier then putting because all you need is a wedge, some balls and grass.
Learning how to hit your wedge shots will cut considerable strokes off your game.

Think about bringing your right elbow to your right hip on the downswing.JackDog wrote: Somewhere over the winter I picked up cutting across the ball. It costs me big distance and accuracy with my irons. I need to get that worked out ASAP.
You have to get rif of that "out to in" swingpath to stop cutting accross the ball.
A good cheap way to practice this at the range, is to lay a headcover down a couple of inches away from the ball. If you dont approach the ball "from the inside" you will hit the headcover.
You are doing it with all your clubs, unless you are changing your swing mechanics differently for different clubs, which I doubt you are doing. It's just that the less lofted clubs will magnify a "not square" impact position a lot more than a highly lofted iron will. If you are having trouble finding the fairway off the tee with your driver, move down to a 3,4,5 wood or even a 3,4, iron hybrid. Better to be in the fairway 175 yards away, then in the woods, 125 yards away. Some shorter courses I use my 4-Wood 80% of the time. Especially on par 5's. Remember....you have 3 shots to reach the green, so don't try and get it all with 2. Even on a 550 yard hole. A 200 yard drive will still leave you with 2 shots to make 350. which is just a long iron/hybrid and about a 7 iron.dbdynsty25 wrote: I do the same thing off the tee...for some reason I don't with my irons. I guess irons are a lot more forgiving when it comes to cutting across the ball, but still. I've got the R5 Draw driver and it helped a bit with my slice off the tee, but still not perfect. Stupid baseball swing creeping into my golf swing.
LOVE my Cleveland CG12 56 degree. I'll be hitting the range tomorrow to work on my irons. Can't wait.Danimal wrote:I actually know how to hit a wedge which is why I have 5 different ones that I rotate out of my bag based on the course and conditions I am playing in. They are all Cleveland BTW.

I picked up a niblick a couple months ago. Kinda a dumb buy though cause I love my Cleveland cg's and hit them all pretty well. I used it plenty at the range but never pulled it out during a round because the odd look of it kills my confidence when lining up for a shot. Sooooo I went a grabbed a 56 taylormade wedge with the switchable faces and I love it! Still prefer my 60 cg15 above all else.JackB1 wrote:If any of you guys struggle with your short game, you should really pick up one of these and stop trying to hit those 75-25 yard pitches with your wedges.....

I love it. It's great for bump and run chips....almost point and shoot.macsomjrr wrote: I picked up a niblick a couple months ago. But I use it for everything 120 yards and in, where I dont need a high shot with a soft landing. Only time I use a blade wede is in the sand or when I need to lob it up high over an obstacle.
I can tell you how many people want one after they play a round with me.
Most guys I play with are mid to high handicappers like myself who struggle with wedge "touch" shots and chips. It makes the game a lot more fun for me.
The Masters is shaping up to be a dandy. I would love for Freddy to hang around and show the younger dudes that he's still got it. This is shaping up as a tourney for Westwood to lose. My money is on Lefty Mickelson, he's been unbelievable especially with those consecutive eagles yesterday.
Dark horse, I really like how K.J Choi has been hitting the ball all weekend long. He's lurking.

Two shots come to mind for Phil's great win today. His long birdie on the 12 hole which changed the momentum of his battle with Westwood and his amazing shot from a terrible lie in the middle of the bushes on 13 which barely cleared the creek and into the green for a chance at eagle.
Classy guy, he just played superbly the last four days.

So happy for Phil. He played unbelievable today. Tiger faded out of contention pretty quickly. Was hoping for more Tiger vs Phil drama today, but I am glad Tiger lost. He still has that adolescent temper when
he hits a bad shot. I thought he was going to have a new attitude on the course now? Anyway, the right guy did win. Maybe now golf fans will start to embrace Phil as a proper role model, instead of a self centered, childish, cheating, spolied liar. In his own words....."Tiger Woods, you suck!"

Anyone can be a great role model....athlete or whatever. As long as you pick the right one. Tiger was never one. Phil is a much better candidate.pk500 wrote:Bingo.Danimal wrote:Or maybe people should be smart enough not too look at any athlete as a role model.JackB1 wrote:Maybe now golf fans will start to embrace Phil as a proper role model
Tiger is more of a marketing tool to sell golf products. Kids want to play with what Tiger plays with.
