As much as I wanted to see Ferrari win I hated that Vettel's car broke down with an exhaust issue because both he and Red Bull were the class car and IMO they probably would have won this GP.
Alonso did make it interesting by closing up on Vettel before the exhaust issue reared it's ugly head. My drive goes to Vettel for holding on to 4th place with a limping car. Once Alonso got out in front he showed his precision and killer instinct by moving away from the field.
Great drive by Hamilton and Felipe who radioed that there was a vibration coming from the front of his car. McLaren said it was a tire patch or flat spot.

Driver of the weekend: Rosberg. Blew his seven-time World Champion teammate into the weeds. Made him look mortal and old.
Who's the only other driver to do that? Perhaps the winner of today's race, that's all.
And it's only one race, but the obvious is becoming even more apparent: Jenson Button is no match for Lewis Hamilton. Button is a case of a solid driver lucking into an a huge technical advantage and cantering to the World Championship. He'll never win another world title.

Interesting little tidbit from the BBC. It appears the reason why the Red Bulls are quicker on pace than the Ferrari's is because the Red Bulls can run on less fuel. Which explains why during the winter testing there was a rumor that the Ferrari's were less fuel efficient than their rivals.
Also news is that The Little General talked with Mario and agreed that F1 needs to go back to Indy. We'll see how that develops. Bernie also said that it's possible to run 21 races next year.

That's fine and dandy. But until Bernie's tariff for running a race is reduced, F1 will NOT return to Indy. F1 needs IMS more than IMS needs F1.Rodster wrote:Also news is that The Little General talked with Mario and agreed that F1 needs to go back to Indy. We'll see how that develops.
IMS is not a non-profit company.

Nice race! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Uh what ..who... what... who woke me.
That was utter crap for an opener who can tell me if there was one overtaking that meant anything.
Why are they saying this could be the best season ever.
All these changes for the worst so if you screw up a tire change you lose 1 second big whoop.
Lotus car looks great thats all i can take away from that im afraid.
Cant wait for the next race errrrr. yes i can.

After snoozing through Bahrain, I was given a jolt of petrol by the IZOD IndyCar Series opener in Sao Paulo. As the wee Scot Jackie Stewart would say, "That was a proper moturrrr race."
The IndyCar race had a bit of everything. A really, really fun race to watch.

It appears Vettel's car suffered engine trouble and not an exhaust issue as was previously reported. Red Bull is saying that it was a faulty spark plug that was the cause of the problem. They also confirmed there was no engine or exhaust damage.
I feel bad for Adrian Newey. The guy is an absolutely brilliant designer but wherever he goes his reputation follows him of building very fast but fragile cars. In this case it looks like Adrian is not to blame UNLESS he installed the spark plug.

Damn missed it , tried to watch the fiasco of qualifying yesterday not a great start for either series.
May need to set my dvr for Indy this year to see some racing instead of billionaires parading around single file, i woke up thinking this is the longest warmup lap ever... it was the race.

The IndyCar Series race from Sao Paulo will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. (PT - your time) Monday, right after the NHL game, according to the VS. Web site.
Watch or set the DVR. The race is really worth your time. Crazy and entertaining.

Well that settles it. I guess it's time to dump Directv in favor of Uverse so I can get some IndyCar series.pk500 wrote:Jimmy:

I don't know how you can come to such a strong conclusion Paul. It will take more than just the season-opener to judge how old Michael rates compared with seasoned Rosberg. I think the old man did quite okay. He got through the first turn in one piece and he made no big mistakes. Besides, he wasn't that far behind Nico was he?pk500 wrote:Driver of the weekend: Rosberg. It's NICO F*CKING ROSBERG. How many races has he won? How many poles has he recorded? How many titles has he won?
Yes, it's only the first race. And I would be more sympathetic if Schumacher's teammate was Alonso, Hamilton or even Vettel and he was soundly beaten all weekend.
But Nico Rosberg? Come on. He's not that good. He's not that special. He's slowly venturing into "If he ever fulfills the potential he showed in the junior formulas" Mark Webber underachiever territory. And yet he held the upper hand over a seven-time World Champion all weekend.

Yeah neither do I, so I gotta disagree with PK on this one too. I thought Nico had a decent drive, steady but not spectacular. He had the chance to pounce on a wounded Vettel and couldn't, in fact Vettel started to pull away on the last lap.Smurfy wrote:I don't know how you can come to such a strong conclusion Paul. I was hoping/dreaming of a podium for Michael but in reality that result was realistic. He did an admiral job finishing 6th while starting 7th. Also Michael started to hunt down his teammate later on in the race posting faster lap times, IIRC.
It'll take awhile for Michael to get to grips with the car, regulations and that feeling of old. Now if by mid-season the results are the same then yes, i'll admit Michael needs to hang up the Helmet for good.
Of note: Sterling Moss had a great article on the ESPNF1 website where he talked about who his favorite for this years WDC will be. He tipped Vettel only because everyone else had chosen Alonso. He said there are only several real racers on the grid. The rest are just drivers, IHO. His racers include Hamilton, Vettel, and Alonso. Everyone else are drivers which he defines as capable but never looking to push it to the edge and taking chances and winning when they are supposed to.

Bah. His place in history is assured - if he's enjoying it and people will employ him, let him get on.Rodster wrote:I was hoping/dreaming of a podium for Michael but in reality that result was realistic. As far as his race goes, he was never more than 5 seconds away from Nico having got gradually closer throughout the weekend, so I imagine he'll take that for now. As you say, Rod, if he's still 5 seconds behind Nico at the end of, say, the British Grand Prix, he won't be as happy. I'd be a bit surprised if that was the case, though.

DirecTV and VERSUS settled their six-month dispute this afternoon. The IZOD IndyCar Series is back on DirecTV!

Time already for my yearly reminder of what a genuine legend sounds like:

Notice how he's not at all deterred by knowing the names of exactly none of the men he's commentating on, consider that he's 86 years old and still jetting to Australia to commentate on a truck race, and then just marvel at the sheer enthusiasm that still shines through every word he says.

The BBC needs to bring back Murray. Jonathan Legard not only sounds too much like James Allen but calls a worse race IF that's remotely possible and it is. During the Bahrain GP he's going off on a tangent and Martin has to interrupt him that the Red Bull was sick. Way to go Jonathan for not picking up on it.
