Tuesday Night Shoot-Em-Ups: Bad Company 2
Gang:
who's up for some BF:BC2 tonight? I'm psyched to try it out and would love to get a big group together in there. I have no idea what to expect in terms of partying up, or private games, or what, but we can figure something out.
I'd like to start at 10pm EST. I must, however, add the caveat that there is a slim chance that I may not make it by then. If I'm not there, please get an XBL party going and I will join you guys when I can.
Who's in, and when do you think you can get online?

My brother in-law is living with us this month and has comandeered the game/man room and he definitely NOT a gamer. May still get online but likely not when you lads are on. I would kick him out of the room but he's here for school so I guess he needs to study.....barf.....
f***in' guy, he's lucky his sister is hot.....

My copy has arrived so I will probably be in there around 10. I may suck though
I didn't get the last BC game and only got about 2 hours of demo time with the game.
One bad thing, I mistakenly deleted my Squad Rush code
I emailed Gamestop about it and I think they are gonna resend it.

It really sucked that we couldn't get everyone in the game. If we'd had ten guys, we could have had a private game and either myself or Diablo coildve just bowed out, but you need at least eight to start any private game, so it wasn't happening.
I really wish it worked more like ShadowRun or Halo, where you could just take your XBL Party into a game, but instead it's just these four-man squads. And then, every game I joined had 20 or 22 people already in it, and it didn't look like people were dropping out.
Outside of private games, I don't think we will ever get more than four or five of us in the same game unless the crowds die down a bit.
It's weird becuase even in 1943 we were able to get big groups into the same game, at least bit by bit.
But once we were playing, I was having a lot of fun, even though I wasn't scoring very highly. We had some great moments on that last map when I got up on the roof and a couple guys were down below. That was fun stuff!
Next time I want to do the rush game mode. Good stuff!

Bah, I responded to the other thread. There were definitely some server hangups last night, but once four of us got into a game together, I thought it was a lot of fun. Hopefully we can figure out how to get more people involved in the future.Zeppo wrote:It really sucked that we couldn't get everyone in the game. That episode on the roof where we were protecting the Alpha point on the last map was pretty crazy. I ran out of ammo and took a few people out with my RPG before dying just before you spawned. I hindsight, I should have waited for you to spawn and drop some supplies for me....

Yeah I had a blast, it does suck about matchmaking I wonder if emailing them would do anything for a future patch?
I've got the pc version too so I'll compare how that matchmaking is set up.
I really want to play this again soon.

I played this off and on most of the night outside of watching a few TV shows.
I've never been a huge fan of the Modern Warfare games. The reason for me is pretty simple:
Spawn.
Run a few feet.
Turn a corner.
See an enemy.
Shoot/Get shot.
Run/Die.
Repeat.
It's such a hectic, frantic time that it just doesn't do it for me. I know that once I learned the maps and knew chokepoints and all of that it would feel comfortable, but I've never had any interest in getting there.
With one night of BC2, I've already become much more comfortable.
I was able to unlock the repair tool, anti-tank mines, the SCAR and XM8 Compact, vehicle armor/weapon upgrades, etc., as an engineer.
As bad as the matchmaking seems to be, the actual in-game strategy is phenomenal. I know it's there somewhere in MW2 (probably the last reference I'll make to that game, sorry), but I've never felt it.
I'd pick a spawn point and have time to scout the terrain and find a choke point and assess my vulnerabilities, move from cover to cover and really set up attacks. The ability to spawn on a squad mate is EXCELLENT!
Between the vehicles and large scale of the maps, it really sets in for a bigger grind of a battle. And every time I see a lone wolf run off and get blasted by a squad of 3 or 4 guys, it cracks me up.
There were sessions with complete randoms where we had a medic, I was the engineer, and a couple of assault guys. We'd all pile in a tank and head for an objective with a driver, one guy in the turret, and one on each window gun.
When we'd encounter an enemy, I'd hop out and get behind the tank, and the two assault guys would hop out and fan out a bit to take out any RPG-wielding engineers. I'd continually repair the tank as it took shots and we absolutely laid waste to several maps this way. Even helicopters were pretty tore up once we started using the Back button to spot them.
All in all, it's a bit slower paced than previous games I've played, and it's right in my wheelhouse, personally.

What a night for my connection to go kaput. We're probably going to be changing carriers, too, so I don't know if I'll be online the rest of the week. Damn. Got baseball, got Battlefield...can't play online. Oh well.
It did give me a chance to play the SP some, and oh, my...whoever said this thing doesn't look as good as MW2 needs glasses. Some of the jungle environments are WOW.
The chatter from your teammates is funny. as. hell. Funnier than the first game, and it sometimes goes on, and on. When you clear a sector, just sit around for a bit before moving on, and listen. It'll tickle your funny bone.
One of my favorite random outbursts was in a snowy, mountainous region. We were having to take down a satellite dish, and one of the guys-the one with glasses and the NY accent, blurted out, "Where the hell are we-Hoth?!?"
The sound effects are peerless, and the gameplay is just damned fun. Can't wait to play it online...when I can get online...

Only got in 2 games of multi-player, but I like what I saw. OTOH, I *loved* the first BF:BC, so I'm not surprised.
I didn't feel like it was much slower-paced than MW2. The support classes and vehicles give you other things to do, which I love, but I have a hard time agreeing with the idea that this is a substantially more realistic affair. Loved it, though.

I don't think it's realistic....by slower paced, you're not into a firefight 5 seconds after spawning, or running from hallway to hallway outside of assaulting a building.
The pace I'm referring to is the travel across the map, attacking from 2 sides with vehicles and having more time to formulate an attack plan.
When the entire map is about 200 yards across, it seems to be nonstop firefights IMO.

Not sure who said it was more realistic, i said more strategic and based on 1 night I stand by that.
Last night our squad of 4 held A position and was communicating and working well (yeah it took 3 or 4 games) together. I'm not saying that doesn't happen in MW2, just I've never seen it.
An really all it took was our one squad to alter the game, our team was getting killed in previous matches because they were just running off. Nothing sucks more then watching one guy take a tank or heli with other people standing there.
I'm convinced our squad taking and holding positions was what swung the last game.
