It may not be a game killer for you or others but it goes to show the state of the series. The Show can almost do no wrong and keeps adding things to their game to make it better and MLB2K can't get check swings in their game...sheesh
I may still buy the game like I did last year for the PC if it's only $20. If not it's The Show again.
It shows the state of their baseball series, add that to their hockey series and it's too bad I'm not an NBA fan - which seems like their best product.
Baseball is frustrating because they are the only game in town on the 360.. they could have some really great sales if they would get their s*** together.
Thankfully, I'm also a text simmer and I'll continue to spend most of my time with Puresim.
I haven't given up hope yet. Look at all the misinformation in the OS preview. I'm thinking it's in there for button configuration only. I don't see how you would be able to check swing with the swing stick.
I've said this before, the swing stick needs to be just like NHL 10's skill stick.
As you move the stick forward/back, it needs to be tied to the bat so that any movement give direct feedback to the bat. If you pulled the bat back, you would execute a check swing.

I absolutely love The Show but I'm hoping for the best with 2k10, too.
Actually, this first trailer looks rather promising to me.

Except there was an interview at Gamestop that said they took OUT check swings. So officially, there are no check swings in a game that says the pitcher/batter interface is the most important part of the game. That is downright laughable.
I played online against friends last year 80% of the time (360) & I loved it. I guess I'd ask for more online league/playoff options, but other than that, it was a blast.

If I remember right, no lefthanded hitters could hit homeruns in one of the old MVP games (maybe it was righty hitters). IMO, THAT was laughable. I doubt the check swing thing will be a deal breaker for me (though there may be others), but I'm not going to pass on the game on because of that. I like baseball too much to pass on an otherwise good game (which remains to be seen, I know).

Yup, that was laughable too...in fact, that was ridiculous. But removing check swings and then blowing smoke up my ass saying the pitcher/batter duel is the most important part of the game doesn't give me hope for an improved 2K game. They've been going the opposite direction of the Show and the gap is just widening each and every year. I really hope they reverse trend...but I certainly wouldn't put a penny on it.
Hell, I liked Bigs 2's gameplay just fine, so I'm not one to look to if high expectations for sim quality gameplay are your benchmark. Just want it to be fun, and engaging. If I can whack a homer, rob a homer, and generally have a good time, I really don't care about the little things all that much.
I'm getting to the age where, honestly, I don't have the reaction speed to perform a check swing, anyway...can't get my thumb off the damned button fast enough...

very much.
Is anything better then working the count in a baseball vidgame? With no check swings, good luck. I wouldn't be able to

Desperate times call for desperate measures. 2K will award 1 million dollars to the first individual gamer to throw a perfect game. You must record your game with a video recorder and mail it in for verification purposes. So, it's come to this?

Couldn't they have spent that money elsewhere? I mean, it's not like it's a perfect game (pun intended) so what the hell? Use it for a tester or two or 20. Sheesh.
I thought last years game showed some potential as being a place to build from. I can do without the "UPS truck going down a dry dirt road" dust trailing after the runners, as well as the framerate issues. Those things bothered me the most. The sluggish outfielders were a mess as well.. (thinking to myself what I did like about last years game...)
Anyway. i'll be happy if they clean up the glaring issues from last year.

I thought last years game was OK. I loved the commentary but when you compared The Show to MLB 2K9 it was like the Pros vs the Minors.
If MLB Today works as well as the NBA Today feature in NBA2K10, that is definitely something to be excited about. While the Show commentary is starting to get repetitive and a little stale, it's nice to see MLB2K10 adding fresh and dynamic commentary.
Does the NBA Today work well within a running franchise? I've always wanted a franchise mode where announcers would talk about hot players, what's gone on recently, etc.......

I'm sure it's a dollar a year for a million years. I doubt you're getting a check cut for a cool million. Even reality shows going away a million don't do that.

Now, I know what you are thinking… if this is so realistic, then why have I read from recent previews that there might not be a check swing in Major League Baseball® 2K10? Before we get into check-swing talk, let me clarify that the check-swing is in fact part of an upcoming patch. Pulling back on the right stick will play a check swing if you previously committed to a power swing or contact swing. Flicking up to contact swing and then pulling down will stop the contact swing. A power swing is performed by pulling down and then flicking up, as mentioned above. However, if you pull the right stick down back towards you after starting a power swing, that too will result in a check swing. This implementation of check-swinging makes it impossible to do one by accident. Pulling down on right stick = check swing. Never again will you have to ask “Why the heck did he check swing?!?!?” before contemplating launching a controller across the room. It also makes it easier to trigger when you actually want a check swing to play.
If they can stay away from all the little bugs MLB 2k usually has.. this could be a decent baseball game this year. I still love the way you pitch and hit.
I just wonder about the check swing coming in a patch. Were they not going to put it in until they heard the outcry? Were they planning on it, but ran out of time?
Just seems fishy to me that for the second year in a row we know there will be a patch before the game is even out.
That being said, if all of the things in the insight are done correctly, the game may be playable this year.....
