Left 4 Dead 2 demo

Post by Teal »

I reserved L4D2 last night, and got a key to open the demo early. They've added quite alot to the formula this time around. New zombie types, new special infected, new weapons...

The demo takes place in New Orleans at near sunset. There are several new zombies, like the charger, who looks like a tank, but slightly smaller. His job is to run headlong into you and run you into the nearest immovable object, then grab you and pound you into the pavement until someone takes him down. He's very fast.

There's another who jumps on your back and 'rides' you around. Then there's the spitter, who's spit is toxic. The melee weapons are a blast, as well. I spent a great deal of time slamming heads with a guitar, clanging them with an iron skillet, and hearing the dull ring of the skillet, or strings popping on the guitar on impact was both funny and sickeningly satisfying.

There's a couple of new healing elements to the game, as well. Adrenaline shots are scattered about now, and there's also a defibrillator, to...revive dead teammates. The caveat is that if you choose to carry the defib, you must put down your health pack.

All in all, I really enjoyed what I played. The new team, at this point, doesn't seem quite as compelling as the first bunch, but having only played a small portion, that may not yet be a fair criticism.

Going PC only this time around for L4D2. It didn't have a long shelf life here, like most things and on the PC we still play it 2-3 times a month.

All the DLC is free on the PC, plus the sdk kit has allowed me to play a dozen campaigns that were user made and some of them were far better then the ones that came with the game.

Been playing the 360 demo. I must say the game is fun, the AI is generally solid but the graphic are ok. I didn't buy the first one but will probably order the PC version for this one especially now that I know mods were made for the last game.

I'm getting it. L4D is one of my favorite games so the sequel is a no-brainer. I really enjoyed the demo. The melee weapons are a nice addition and the new special zombies are great. I'm actually looking forward to this one more than MW2.

If we had a regular contingent that still did shooters once a week I would consider double dipping (PC & 360) but games seem to come and go on here now faster then new reality shows.

I'm still mad at how fast GR2 died here, how many games do 16 player co-op?

I did a helluva lot of playng L4D, Dan, with DSPers, no less. Not sure what you mean by the lack of support for it. I'm torn, however, between getting this or Assassins Creed 2 next week. What kind of support we get here will be the determining factor, so I'd really like to get a head count...

As did I teal and it lasted a month, maybe a tad more. Which is DSP terms is a long time these days.

On the PC I was still playing L4D weekly until about a month ago. The interest has died in preparation of L4D2. I guess my point is game for me have a much longer life on the PC because of the group I play with.

If a month or two is consider a game with legs on the 360 then I have to ask myself why pay almost $20 more for a game i will play logner on the PC, get free DLC on the PC and get free mods on the PC.

It wasn't a shot at anyone I just can't double dip anymore, so i have to make choices. I had a hell of a lot of fun with L4D and the DSP crew. i still tell the story of the night Mix got vomited on and the 3 of us were in a room so i shut the door and let him die.

I'll probably trade in Borderlands and a few others so maybe I will get the 360 version, depends who else is on board.

Alright: One last time. Is anyone planning on picking up the 360 version of L4D2 tomorrow? I'm either picking this up, or Assassin's Creed II, depending on response. I loved the first L4D, but it's really no fun to play alone, or with any AI, really. Takers? I've got it preordered, but would gladly gf it for an AC2 purchase if there's gonna be lackluster support for it here.

I still have the incredibly awesome MW2 to keep my trigger finger satiated, if not... :D

I'm going to grab it, but I don't know when I'll be able to play it. Maybe the weekend for a little bit? Not sure about my schedule Thursday yet.

Y'know, I am too, but it's not because I didn't like the demo. I really liked the demo, and think the game'll be a riot like the first one (XBM gave it a 9.5)...

...I just think it's coming out at a bad time. Just really have started to dig into MW2, and I really, really want Assassin's Creed 2 (it got a 9), and only have enought moolah for one more purchase this month (Christmas for 3 kids...WOW.). So I'm torn because of all that. BUT...I'll buy it and gf AC2 if there's enough interest to solidify a good MP presence for awhile.

yeah, my choice has nothing to do with concern of it being good and fun...just if I will really play it.

Is the game speed still like the first one? In theory I love the idea of the game, but L4D was so freaking fast and floaty, while I think I wanted something a bit slower and chunkier... zombie breaking down doors, instead of bum-rushing me en-masse. Hell, if anything it probably got faster.

I just got my copy today from EA store, but with vacation coming up this week, I won't be able to play it until the end of the month. Enjoyed the demo.

Played this last night since the Steam version was up right at midnight, is a lot of fun even if I don't know what all the new modes are and what not.

If anyone else gets the PC version shoot me a friends request on Steam it's Danimal66

While I *hate* this mechanic in more realistic shooters (like the COD series), I just read about how they changed the 'horde rush' events so that they need to be turned off by reaching a certain spot, rather than allowing the players to hide in a closet and fend off the attack. That makes for a better game in this case, I think.

Web,

I notice a few things in my short playing time. First the levels are more open in terms of where you can go, the first one is a tad small but the second is great.

The Horde rushes are more intense, they come from different directions it's a lot harder to pin yourself in a corner. The AI director has really been improved, the first level is in a hotel on fire and the smoke can get really intense making it impossible to see.

On the second map and I am trying to be really vague here, you get to spot where you're literally asked to go do something on the level before moving on towards the safe house. Similar to last game where it was like a stand off stage, that's where i quit last night because I decided I wanted to save the surprises for playing co-op

I like the new weapons, the grenade launcher, samari sword combo was nice for me last night.

I haven't tried the new modes but the Realism mode sounds cool and challenging and the scavenge mode is something I want to try right away.

All in all this game is going to have some legs for me.

Dammit, I love what I've been reading about this one. But my love for all things Assassin's Creed (coupled with a supposed voucher to play Splinter Cell early :D ) has pushed me to get AC2 first. BUT...I may have to trade in a couple games and get this, too.

Ah, the love/hate that exists with holiday release season...

I saw enough in 90 minutes last night that I may trade in clunkers like Brutal Legend and others and get the 360 version too. It seems like enough DSP peeps are getting it.
