Speaking just for me, I was just trying to get a feel for how the graphics compared, and whether the single player game was engaging without being unnecessarily difficult. If someone asked me to compare The Show with Madden, I could do it -- even though they're obviously completely different sports. Thanks again to those who responded...the information was very helpful.Teal wrote:I reeeeaaallly don't get the "how does it stack up against Uncharted2" stuff. It isn't even remotely in the same category as UC2, and the comparison makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
CoD Modern Warfare 2.

Played the game for a few hours last night. As expected, it is very good but nothing surprised me. Campaign is solid so far. I played a few MP games and got slaughtered for the most part. Some of the people on there are ridiculously good. They need to get offline once in a while and get a life. We need to take a DSP squad on there and show them who is boss! Or not.

Like that one kid who's like 8 years old and slaughters everybody in Halo online.Diablo25 wrote:Played the game for a few hours last night. As expected, it is very good but nothing surprised me. I played through a large chunk last night I believe. It's a good game, does a really good job on the chaos part of the situations, but the enemies seem way to abundant in some of those scenarios.
The airport scene was more disturbing then I thought it would be and as expected completely is out of character as a storytelling element. If we have a special task force that would let thousands of people die so someone could stay under cover well then I guess I'm just clueless.
I guess I am expected to remember MW1 in terms of some of the characters but I really don't. MW1 had some great moments of characters dying etc, here it all just feels the same and done for effect.
I played a few random games online and as always it just the more you play, the more you know the maps and the better you are. It really brings no sense of tactical game play into it when everyone is running and gunning because they will respawn. I know it's not that type of game but still it is just like Halo except in MW the guns do the killing instead of the Halo b*tch slap.
Anyway as said, decent game will probably be fun to play in a party with DSP friends but I highly doubt it will take time away from all the other excellent titles out right now.

I should have my copy today and can't wait to dig in. I guess I'm in the minority here because the campaign is practically an afterthought to me, all I really care about the multiplayer which I will no doubt pour endless hours into.
I am no expert, but I can usually hold my own against good teams. The less running around I do the better I perform in multiplayer as I almost always lose the twitchfests. I'm sure there will be plenty of obnoxious players out there, but the way the CoD games are built it minimizes the bunny-hopping, head-shot-with-a-sniper-rifle-hipfire crowd.
I certainly wouldn't call the online gameplay tactical, but for me it finds the sweetspot between super-jumping players and laser guns (ie Halo), and hardcore military shooters, which are a little too punitive and slow for me when I just want to hop online and gun down some noobs.
I'm looking forward to the removal of 3x frags perk and martyrdom, which were really annoying in CoD4. My only concern is all the crazy killstreak rewards. Apparently for private matches you can disable kill streaks and perks, which may make our DSP games more interesting.
And is anybody at all interested in CoD: Classic for Live? I was kind of interested in that for the multiplayer as I played CoD1 online on PC to death back in the day, and that would provide a slower-paced, no frills online shooter experience. Information is scant on CoD: Classic at the moment, but I think I saw it's only 8 player online, which would probably kill my interest.

That is interesting. If it proves to be the case and such games get going, I may pick this up to join in.Naples39 wrote: Apparently for private matches you can disable kill streaks and perks, which may make our DSP games more interesting.
Online multiplayer has seriously lost much of its appeal to me lately with the 'arms-race' attitude being more prevalent than ever. (Perks, PRG style leveling, purchasable boosts, pre-order or special edition game-impacting bonuses, etc, etc)
I definitely understand that perspective. It's not a direction I like either, but at least there are no purchasable upgrades for MW2.webdanzer wrote:Online multiplayer has seriously lost much of its appeal to me lately with the 'arms-race' attitude being more prevalent than ever. One of the good things about CoD4 was that for all the customization, the essential perks and weapons were all available out of the box or unlocked very early (M4 assault rifle, MP5 SMG, M40 sniper, stopping power, steady aim....etc). While the higher levels unlocked some cool stuff that allowed you to more greatly tailor your player, much of it couldn't be deemed "better" or as unfair advantages.
Whether this is the case in MW2 remains to be seen, but for now I will trust in Infinity Ward who have always shown good judgment.
I'm with Naples when it comes to the multiplayer (though I'm probably not nearly as good!) - I really enjoy it and while there's still a twitch element I find it's not nearly as crazy as Halo 3.
I also like that they've added more points and progression to pretty much everything you do (i.e bonus for head shots, bonus for getting out of a bad streak, bonus for revenge etc) - it means that even if you finish last in kills you actually feel like you're making some progress in unlocking stuff.
I also like the death-streak perks - I'm making the biggest progress with those, lol!
I'm totally up for DSP night as I haven't been shot in the head by Mix, Teal or Mac for a while now.

Just finished the campaign, and man, I'm keyed up! No, it's not the longest game out there, but I've never been on a better thrill ride! And just in case anyone's still wondering, special ops kick all manner of ass, as well. Mix and I played a few missions, and they were a blast. Next up...Poker Night!!

I believe you can do it on some of the other types of games....Maybe I was wrong but I played with one of my writers on my site and we talked throughout our match. You just can't talk to your opponents.macsomjrr wrote:No party chat in the multiplayer. Wow. Who's bright idea was that???????

They said it was to help with cheating. Example given was if a member of your party was on the opposite team and would give away positions to his buddy. What I dont get is if you are in a party aren't you suppose to be on the same team?

Not necessarily. The fools would get into party chat, then enter the same game on different teams, and call out positions and such to drive up scores for each other, get those stupid achievements, and such. I have no problem with the removal of it, if only to cut down on idiocy. I can always turn on 'friends only' voice in the dashboard.TheTruth wrote:They said it was to help with cheating. ground war (big team TD and DOM) allows for party chat. The other modes do not as one of the biggest cheats (kind of) was to party up and go play Search and Destroy. Nothing like calling out enemies to your buddies while you are dead..................macsomjrr wrote:No party chat in the multiplayer. Wow. Who's bright idea was that???????
