Playing manual on PRO already gives me a good challenge. Loving it.

Cheaters Beware FC.

It works a bit backwards this year. You have to create your virtual pro and then request a transfer. This is done easily enough, as you can look up your friends' clubs. Once we get the request we'll send you an invite. Everyone should feel free to ask.

Once cool thing is that they made it much, much easier to have multiple teams playing simultaneously in smaller groups.

I have a gift card to Target for this game. Two different Targets have been sold out of this already...This game seems to be selling well!

Only having played some OTP with the gang so far, and though the tweaks may seem minor, to me this game is completely different than last year, while being much more like the year before and yet miles better.

I can defend again! I can muscle guys off the ball, can tackle the ball and it won't magically magnet-bounce right back to the better-rated attacker (at least so far in this leveling-up world of this created-player OTP league), and can switch the ball and knock it around to control the pace without the constant fear of being overwhelmed by swarms of speedy opponents. The shoot-button clearance is once again as good a counter-creating long pass to the front as any other.

The ticky-tack fouls are almost getting to that sublime level I remember WE7 achieving. It's not quite there yet, but it's as close as anything has been in a long time.

Headers are mostly great, but you still can't get your guy to 'go for' the header if the game decides it's not his turn. Practice mode from the arena, where you can WE-style set the number of attackers and defenders, is plain addictive. I like to go 11 for me, 5 for them, to get the hang of the controls and it's so nice to have a place to practice the special moves from the tele camera.

The one thing that irks me is that you can't have two anys. Now that playing any makes sense again, I know Rob and I would be having the best time as two anys, but whatever.

So far it seems like the EASHL-style, created player OTP is going to be a great thing. Now Club play is about the game of football, not who can be Man U or Barça better than the other guy. The leveling up thing is very much the same as NHL, but you can't place the points you earn where you want them; rather the areas where you do stuff are where points get added as you play (good passes, score goals for shooting, make tackles for defending abilities, and so on). Seems like a good system, but I wish there were some things, like maybe those special stars from WE, to really set people apart and add individual character.

But why get a licensed football game and not use the real players?

They're there if you want them in every other mode. Why get a football game and not sometimes enjoy playing a character that's completely your own creation?

Regular OTP is always available as a nice change of pace or if we want to get some DSP 3-on-3 games going etc.

Thanks, but I generally stick to offline gaming with football titles. I get so obsessed with my seasons that I spend all my time in the offline modes. If I decide to try the online portion of the game I will definitely hit you up, as it pisses me off to no end to play some random person who quits 3/4s of the way through a match.

WCO- I noticed last night in the one random OTP character game that I played with MACTEP that every time someone hits 'ready,' the timer goes down by 10 seconds. This gives you some control over how many players are in the game, and really puts the damper on the fun for those guys who like to waste everyone's time.

It does seem that created pro OTP random games will be a big hit, as players work to level their dudes. There could be plenty of 8 on 8 or more games to be had out there, although lots of guys may quit once they wind up being stuck as defenders. Of course, being any with control over only the back four isn't such a bad thing for some of us! :) It's nice to be able to find a niche.

Oh, and to answer your question about 'why?' - my answer is 'to have fun.' The gameplay is fun, period. And like Rob says, the licensed players are there if you want them; if they are more fun for you, so be it. More variety = a stronger game over all in my mind.

I did not know this one had create-a-player OTP club play. Holy sh*t. That's great.

Man, Simo wasn't kidding about the CPU with free kicks around the box.

So far I've faced 5 of them---4 goals and one shot off the crossbar. A tad bit ridiculous.

I need to learn how to dribble in this game. My years of obsessive PES playing are working against me. Any tips? Should I use the close dribble a lot? What about the skill moves?

Rob, Zeppo are you guys in charge of the DSP team? Do we have enough dudes to battle it out? I would be interested too.

I can't invite you this year. You need to create a pro, look for our team and request a transfer. The easiest way to find us is to look for friends team and click on Cheaters Beware, FC.

I played Be a Pro offline for the first time ever last night and, man o man, what a blast!

I love the "pro" camera. I am starting with the Galaxy reserves and we are 3-0 already. I have 3 assists and a few close calls on goals. While I wish there was a little more time in midfield, this game is sublime. Maybe my favorite ever for a sports game. It is that good.

One question. I made my be a pro player with my age of "38". Does age factor in Be a Pro mode? Do I need to edit my player to be 18?

Thanks!

Well, after playing a few OTP games in FIFA 10, some positives, some negatives.

One big positive is that the counter is fast and you get into games much more quickly.

But you have less control than in 09 with the people you play with. They got rid of the Kick capability, which is a big step backwards. Now you're stuck with tools who are 10 yards offside or they slide tackle all the time. In one game, the opponent was bringing up Cech as soon as we crossed midfield. He was 2/3 of the way towards midfield in a lot of cases.

There is a new option to just have 5 players per side but since the default is 10, people don't find those sessions easily.

As for gameplay, they did make it harder to make runs past defenders. But nevertheless, there have been high scoring games. Average goals per game seem about the same.

In your profile, you could track OTP stats (if all you did was play OTP) in 09 and it showed things like streaks, scores of the last 10 games. In 10, you only get your overall W/L and total goals.

There must be a middle ground between OTP games which are unranked, without stat tracking but use real players vs. the BAP/Virtual Pro games which track stats but use fake players.

I agree! It's the most fun I've had since MLB 09. I can't even play Madden anymore after playing this game.

Excellent! We really need more guys playing. They've inverted the game this year a bit. In the past it was always easier to play with fewer humans. This year the enormous difference between the CPU scrubs and the human players makes it much easier to play with more humans. Plus the game awards bonus points for having additional human-conrolled players.

I'll finalize the transfer next time that I'm on.

How the heck do you score in this game? I just suck at shooting. Plagued me for years with the WE series and now this one. I get several open looks at the goal only to have the ball sail high or wide. Aside from the length of time you press the shoot button, what other aspects control shot location?

If you have the time and the space, try to make a small deke before shooting--it will freeze the goalie and give you an empty net to hit. It also helps to not overpower your kick. (You can hold down the bumper for a control shot, which is often too soft to beat the keeper, but if you're talking about a wide open net, you won't miss.)
