Hmmm interesting. Haven't incurred one, nor do I recall there being a vocal minority talking about it over at OS.

Good news...looking forward to firing up the copy I bought at TRU last week, especially given the Pens' 8-1 start.

Gotta laugh though at whoever at EA made the decision to start using the phrase "title update" instead of patch. Thought it was just a Madden thing, but I guess it was an across the board decision.

sigh......

i'm stuck in slider hell..... I keep moving stuff around. I'm currently on Pro, with sliders tilted heavily towards my goalie, and I still can't score as much as I'd like.

And the CPU barely takes penalties on Pro, even with the Pen slider and aggression both maxed.

I hope EA fixes the goalies in the update..... in my mind, with the sliders the way I have them, I should be geting 5+ goals a game easy......

And EA, pllleeeeeaassseeee put a "pressure" button like in Fifa. If i watch my guys stand perfectly still while the CPU has the puck in my zone any longer...........

argh

Sorry, venting. I like the game otherwise. ;)

I too am stuck somewhere between Pro and All-Star. Pro has become a little too easy to skate in and get off a shot. I'm averaging between 3-5 goals a game and giving up an average of 1-3 goals. I'm 7-2 on my season thus far, but don't really feel threatened when the opponent skates in.

While at first, I had the sliders more in my favor because of the skils of the CPU goalie, they are now even or in the favor of the CPU. Moving up to All-Star isn't an option at this point, because the level of frustration I endured was too much. I'm still enjoying the game quite a bit, but do wish there was a happy medium in terms of skill levels.

It's weird, but it's becoming that way for me.. although on Pro I out shoot the CPU big time.. I just don't score that many goals. On AS, they tape to tape the heck out of the puck and sometimes score at will.

I like the scoring better in NHL 2k10, but the rest of game isn't close to NHL 10........

I just turned off a game in frustration.... trying AS with stuff slanted in my favour, but the CPU chucks the puck around like it's on fire, and none of my guys either chase it, or if I take control of someone, noone can knock it off a stick.

Meanwhile, my passes seem to go half the speed..... I wish the pass speed slider was split into human and AI.

Guess I'll go back to Pro, buit like Mizz said, I dominate the game, but can't score because the goalies are too effing good, even with reaction speed on "should be dead".

Maybe I'll wait and see what the patch brings, or another tuner update, but if I stay this frustrated, i may only keep NHL for online play.... (though even that seems not to be happening anymore except for Wednesdays?)

Honestly I've always thought the current NHL series is overrated for offline play. The offensive AI is crap, and there are still remnants of the 'passive' defense issue. I was really getting into offline BAP last year, but in the end I would just get too frustrating with my AI teammates on offense.

Since getting 10, I've pretty much just played OTP. Sure, it's a crapshoot who you get for teammates, but the games are usually fun.

I also play some online versus play, but then you are still relying on AI teammates to move without the puck, and they often frustrate me more than the idiots who try to deke 3 defenders and shoot every single time they get the puck in OTP.

Is it sad that one of the things that I'm looking forward to most in the title update is the ability to apply boost slots to authentic helmets, meaning there won't be as many FUGLY helmets on the ice in OTP?

Well, played two games, one as the Oil, one as the Sens.

Few things I've noticed..... pinning suction is definately gone. you really need to be close to do it.

The goalies FINALLY realize the puck is near them and poke check. So hopefully no more cross crease goals by the AI.....

For fun in the Sens game I put everything back to All Star Default, including manual passing. The passing is better then out of the box, though there now seems to be a touch of a pause after you hit the pass button? But the passes are definately zippier. They also seem to have some "assist" on them..... or maybe I'm better at aiming then I was when I gave up on manual passing? Not sure if I will use it though.

It "seemed" to be easier to score on wristers. I'm going to hold judgement on this for a while...... especially as my 2 Sens goals were off rebounds..... it'll be interesting to hear others feedback though.

Actually that's a Microsoft thing not an EA thing. I think it started with either the last Halo or GOW2. M$ starting throwing that around and the rest of the industry adopted it, sounds a lot better then the word patch.

well, I want to love this game, but I can't. In order for me to have a level where goalies are beatable, I need to be on Pro and have the CPU offense neutered.

I turn it on AS and the CPU goalie is Patrick Roy, with reaction slider at 0 and the screen effect slider maxed.

The goalies recovery speed is just too fast. Too many times the goalie goes down, only to make a hail mary slide across or glove stab to get the puck.

Meanwhile, my goalie leaks like a sieve, thus providing the CPU it's offense.

Even better, Redshirt went AWOL on OS a few weeks ago and now I can't tell if they are working on a better tuning update, or even another patch.

Right now the game just isn't fun.

I started my Bruins season on Hardcore, All-Star with CPU passing at 0 and a couple of other minor tweaks and the game is playing phenomenally. I'm 3-3, including a shutout win and a win with 1 GA. I've also lost 4-0 and 3-0. Just thought i'd play contrarian.

What are your tweaks? And are you using manual passing, or the old school style?

I got my franchise on AS as well. I am playing -500 Hockey and I like the challenge on this level. What bugs me though, is the overall reaction level of the HUM goaltender vs the CPU goaltender. Many times, the CPU will make a play and my keeper will be laughably behind reading the opponent's play. You work very hard to score here and the CPU all of the sudden scores a goal that I would never and have not been able to score against it. That at times is frustrating.

I haven't played this game since the update. I continued my season tonight with two games. I was shutout by the Panthers 2-0, and beat the Coyotes 2-0. Both games were exciting and has definitely renewed my interest big time.

The CPU isn't as predictable with bringing the puck up ice. In the past, I could check the opposing player coming down the ice on the right side. Now, they make an attempt to go through the middle sometimes. There also seems to be a lot more deflections and the goalies poke the puck away more frequently than before. The game just feels smoother if that's even possible. The CPU seems to be a bit more aggressive rather than letting me just skate in. I can still do it fairly often, but they poke check more effectively. Plus, the neutral zone seems to be a little more messy. I haven't moved my sliders from where they were before and now it seems the goalies are a little tougher on Pro which imo is good!

NHL and Fifa are running neck and neck for my gaming time at this point.

Loving the game, but i am at that point where I am having trouble making Pro hard enough or All-Star easy enough to be really compelling. The gameplay is so spot on and fun.

Interestingly, pre-patch, I was 6-7 in my season with the Blues. But after the patch, and not having touched any sliders, I proceeded to go 8-2, with both loses in OT. I started upping the difficulty, and finally decided to bump to All-Star. I proceeded to los the next three games 4-2, 5-2, and 4-1. worse, the games were not even competitive.

I may just have to take some time and really get my game down on All-Star. Eventually that should pay off, right?

Oh, and I use auto aim. Maybe I could just go to manual aiming to increase the Pro difficulty. I just don't enjoy trying to aim nearly as much as depending on the attributes of my players to decide who hits the top shelf in the right corner.

If you're using manual passing, i'd turn it off.

I find with it on, it's too hard to make good enough passes in the offensive zone that create far better chances then just coming in and shooting.

With the assited passing, I can now pass it to the high slot and get a good chance, whereas before I would be 2 degrees off on the stick, and miss......

I can't decide if i love this game or hate it. With the new rosters out last week, i (once again) started a new Gm mode, and am trying it with manual passing (again)

I think I finally have a handle on the passing, though I wish there wasn't that little delay when I try to max out the speed of the passes.

I still think on All Star the CPU goalies are too good, even with screen effect maxed and reaction time at the min. They recover too quickly.

the thing that annoys me most is how my teammates sit around while the AI throws the puck around in our zone. I realllllly wish they do something about this. If not in a tuner update, at least next year.

With all of the throwing around of the puck, it's nothing to see me getting outpassed at a 2 to 1 margin.... with most of their passes being 5 feet or less.

Also, I think the CPU recoveres too quick from body checks sometimes. I'll line a guy up perfectly, separating him from the puck. but by the time i go for the puck, they AI guy has recovered, and picked it up again?

If hockey wasn't my favourite sport, I might just get rid of this and try basketball or something...... as it is, if things don't improve, i might jump ship and try 2k10, as i've heard after the patch it's livable......

Another roster update with ratings changes is out. check the EA blogs for the list of changes. i.e. Penner is the only Oiler with a change listed.

Also, tuner 1.03 is out, supposedly it is all about goalies and making it easier to score... or more organic anyway.

I haven't tried either item yet.....

I think the last roster update made the scoring more organic.

Thanks for the post, I'll have to check out the new tuner!
