The Redskins went down to Atlanta and got back to their winning ways with a 24-10 victory over the now reeling Falcons, losers of two in a row. It was a defensive battle that was determined by turnovers.

The Redskins took the lead in the first quarter as Jason Campbell engineered an effective drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Antwaan Randle El. The second quarter was the one that saw all the scoring. With 3:58 to go in the half and the score 7-0, Redskins LB Rocky McIntosh sacked Falcons QB Matt Ryan and caused a fumble. Big Albert picked it up, and to the amazement of all in attendance made it all the way to the endzone without collapsing into a heap:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

With the score suddenly 14-0, the Falcons were feeling unlucky. But then, BAM, a 100 yd kickoff return by Norwood set things right back the way the were when the quarter started:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

With time left on the clock, Campbell led the Redskins down the field and inside the Falcons 10 yard line. But the drive threatened to stall out as Portis failed to convert a 3rd and 2. With 4th and 1, the Redskins 'pulled a Zorn' and decided to go for the first down from the 5. Redskins FB M Sellers received the handoff and powered his way through for the first down.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Portis ran it in to extend the Redskins lead to 21-7 with about a minute and a half remaining in the half. But the Falcons weren't done, and zipped down the field to score a FG as time ran out on 2nd quarter, making the score 21-10 at the end of the half.

In the second half the game reverted back to the defensive battle it had been until the last part of the 2nd quarter. The Redskins worked to eat up the clock, while the Falcons kept trying to pound it down their throat with big back M Turner, looking for him to break off a big run. Turner ended the day with only 52 yards on 14 carries, a 3.7 yd average. His long run was only 10 yds. Portis, meanwhile, helped kill the clock with 85yds on 13 carries.

After the two teams traded punts for a while, the game came down to the two minute warning and a 4th down facing the Falcons at their own 32 down by 14. The result of the play was a Ryan interception for the second Falcons turnover of the game:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Redskins were able to add a FG to extend their lead to 14. As time ran out, the Falcons had too much of a deficit with too little time left, and this hit by Laron Landry, jarring the ball loose, ended the game.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Great game, Truth. That was a tough battle and it could have easily gone either way. That sack/fumble/TD had a huge impact on the game. Good luck the rest of the way!

After a disgraceful performance against the Broncos at home the Ravens took to the road to try and avenge an earlier loss to their lowly division rivals the Bengals.

Cincinnati took the opening kickoff and marched down the field on a 6:30 minute drive to take the lead 7-0. After Flacco's quarterback rating of 0 the Ravens decided to come out running the ball on the first 2 plays of the game and ended up with a 3rd and long. Flacco dropped back to pass and was hit as he threw the ball coming up injured while the Ravens ended up punting the ball. The Bengals started driving again but the Ravens defense finally stiffened up and forced a punt.

The Ravens got the ball and Flacco had a medium risk of further injuring himself. Coach Brady told him to suck it up and get his p***y ass back in the game. Coach Brady decided to work on the short passing game in order to help protect Flacco and the offense really started to take off. The Ravens ended up tying the game with just under 3 minutes to play in the half. That tie lasted all of 1:30 as Carson Palmer found a wide open Laveranues Coles to take a 14-7 lead. The Ravens responded with another touchdown with 4 seconds left.

The second half saw both teams struggling to find any rhythm and both punters making a couple of appearances. The Ravens decided to go back to the short passing game that shredded the Bengals in the 2nd quarter and McGahee ended up breaking two tackles on his way to a 54-yard touchdown that proved to be the game winner. The Ravens tacked on another touchdown with less than 2 minutes to play to seal the victory 28-14.

Game Notes:
Carson Palmer opened the game 17-of-17. He ended the game 24-of-27 for 234 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. His quarterback rating was 112.

After having a career low quarterback rating of 0, Joe Flacco responded by going 24-of-29 for 257 yards with 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 126.5.

Ray Lewis broke his collarbone and is out for 5 weeks.

Got my game in, but no highlights b/c I don't want to risk losing the game before it's recorded.

An astonishingly poor Cardinal performance on 3rd down and in the red zone allowed the host Bears to demolish Arizona by the score of 35-9. The tone was set early as a long and efficient AZ drive was stopped at the 3-yd line when Kevin Payne ripped the ball out of Steve Breaston's hands. The teams see-sawed for the rest of the quarter until Matt Forte broke lose for a 52-yd TD scamper.

The Cards got on the board in the second half with a monstrous 58-yd Neil Rackers kick. But the sequence of trading FG's for Bears TD's was set, as Forte picked up his second TD prior to Rackers nailing a 46-yarder with 1:06 remaining in the half. Jay Cutler, who had an efficient if somewhat quiet game, executed a beautiful 2-minute drill, converting a 4th down and ultimately ending with a short strike to veteran WR Darrell Jackson.

Jackson would feature again on the opening score of the second half. The teams traded INT's before Cutler found the wily vet for an 11-yd TD. Rackers, true to form, responded with a 24-yd FG.

The Cardinals just couldn't convert a 3rd down in this game to save their lives, with an unusually aggressive Bears D knocking around the QB's a fair bit. Warner was twice knocked from the game by Brian Urlacher sacks, and both he and Leinhart were hurried repeatedly. The Bears added a TD shortly before the end of the game.

Forte was the clear MVP, with 15 attempts, 127yds and 2TD's rushing as well as 4 Receptions and a TD through the air. Cutler finished 17 of 24 for 165yds with 3TDs and a pick. Urlacher had 2 of the Bears 4 sacks and Ty Law had a big INT.

Kurt Warner was a mediocre 14/22 for 175yds and a pick.

The Monsters of the Midway head to the Bay for a Thursday night showdown with the 49ers in Week 10.

I forgot to mention that I was very glad we were playing in the dome in Atlanta becuse the weather thingat the coin toss said it was 285°. Yowza.

There were nervous moments for the Skins when Campbell was knocked out of the game in the 2nd half, but he appears to be fine now. Collins did OK in his first real action of the season. Ledell Betts will miss one week with an injury.

BTW guys I want to say how much fun this league is hiccups in all, I think it's the main reason I am still playing Madden. I couldn't sleep last night after my loss to Vader.

BTW Vader sorry about the post game I should of been more gracious in the loss I just couldn't believe how the game played out. I now know how Scoop must of felt last week and real coaches feel when everything just seems out of your control.

I really wish they had a way to enforce coach mode in OF, I would totally do another coach only OF but I digress.

Having said that I need to get serious for a minute, the reason I have 3 guys helping me make decisions is so everything is fair. I've had 2 owners who I have gotten multiple complaints about for scheduling games.

I'm not going to name them here, but I'll simply ask that everyone do their best to be respectful of other peoples time. If I have too cut a few guys so the more active owners don't get frustrated and loose interest I am going to do that.

I'm going to see how this sim goes, it ends tomorrow night, and then after that we'll make some decisions, whether that is a friendly warning or just an outright boot will be a decision the 4 of us will make.

Thanks

Yes, because nothing screams "premier matchup!" Like an 8-0 team against a 4-4 team...

Willie Parker has done that to me I don't know how many times. Dude is certainly "misrepresented", if you know what I mean. He should be more like Felix Jones or something, not Brandon Jacobs.

Yeah yeah yeah, don't use your CPU-controlled losses in the name of false modesty, Mr. as-long-as-I-hang-around-I-usually-find-a-way-to-win. :P

lol didn't work with GameSe7en with a vastly superior team compared to the Raiders. I have had some positively dreadful games this year, which is pretty cool. I think they finally got the balance right between pressure-vs.-big plays allowed, or passing into zones where you get picked, etc. I've laid some really fat eggs out there.

Looking at your defensive stats, as well as Jared's, I can probably guess the outcome of that game. 3 or 4 JaMarcus picks.

The red-hot Indianapolis Colts continued their winning ways with their fourth straight victory, beating the Houston Texans in a thrilling 27-21 game.

Early on, it was all Colts. After Houston kicker Kris Brown missed a 49-yard field goal on Houston's opening drive, the Colts struck quickly. Running back Joseph Addai took a screen pass and dodged three Texans tacklers, streaking 36-yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 Indianapolis lead. Addai led the Colts with 126 combined yards rushing and receiving, despite being knocked out of the game twice.

The Colts picked off Houston quarterback Matt Schaub on the ensuing possession and converted the turnover into a 14-0 game, with Peyton Manning hitting tight end Dallas Clark for a 21-yard touchdown.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
<i>Dallas Clark stops, drops, and rolls for a Colts touchdown.</i>

The Texans didn't crumble, however, marching down the field in four plays and scoring on a 20-yard run by Steve Slaton to make it 14-7. But the Colts answered back with their own drive, getting in field goal range to take a 17-7 lead into the half.

While the Colts went on the move again with the opening drive of the second half, their drive stalled when Adam Vinatieri missed a field goal. The Texans took advantage, mounting a long drive that culminated in a Schaub pass to tight end Joel Dreesen to close the lead to 17-14 and give Houston some much needed momentum.

That momentum lasted one play, as Colts returner T.J. Rushing took the return 100-yards for a touchdown, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and demoralizing the Texans.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
<i>Rushing rushes the length of the field on a kick return</i>

The Colts defense stopped the Texans on the next drive, and once again the Indianapolis offense chewed up yards and minutes, getting in position for a 36-yard field goal and a 27-14 lead with 3:30 left. But Houston running back Slaton made it a game again quickly, turning a short third-down pass into an 80-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 27-21 with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Slaton finally had his breakout game of the season, finishing with 185 total yards and two touchdowns.

Houston managed to get the Colts into a third-down situation before the two-minute warning. Peyton Manning quickly dashed those comeback hopes, however, finding receiver Austin Collie for a first down. The Colts were five of nine on third downs, and Manning's 13-of-19 passing performance made him the MVP of the game.

The Texans had a sliver of hope as the Colts had to punt with less than a minute left, but the Colts special teams delivered again, downing the punt at the three with 19 seconds left and sealing the win.

The Colts face the Patriots next, while the Texans will try not to lose during the bye week.
